So lets make a list for him. Because we can. Not to review, but to enjoy so he can save all his hatred for the next zelda game.

Firstly, as an RPG nerd, most of mine will be rpgs. But i will try to avoid the ones with turn based combat for the most part.
---
Lost Kingdoms 1+2, though more likely 2, since one had annoying battles that took place in limited areas, but overall it was a lot of fun and a lot of monsters were pretty unique. There is one card you get later on that breaks the final boss over its knee though.

Quest 64: "If you want a story, there's not a lot of that" which is odd for an rpg but the gameplay was unique and fun once you got the hang of it, and unlike most rpgs where a points system is implimented, you actually have to train your stats mid battle. IE taking hits to increase defense, utilizing your movement range to increase it etc.

I have to include Disgaea, because the characters are fun, the stats actually differ from character to character depending on reincarnation and weapon levels, the obscenely broken item world will either let you level, or send you back to the load screen depending on individual intelligence and sheer ability to know when your warrior is screwed and start using your mage to finish the damn things off instead of healing. On top of that there are multiple endings but rather than being black and white good or evil there are like 7 endings depending on how many allies you kill and what extra levels you complete, etc.

On the note of multiple endings i'd also say Nocturne. Yes its turn based but the dark twisted story and lovable(sometimes) characters make up for it. It's almost like pokemon, except with demons and real sorts of evil running about in something that doesn't resemble pajamas.

Lastly Mischief Makers. It was a platformer for the 64, but the means of platforming weren't either jumping on things, or rolling into things, or shooting things. Its actually based around grabbing and throwing things. Doesn't sound like much but you'd be amazed how much fun it actually is. There's also boss battles that will either beat you with the stick of low self esteem or be finished within a minute flat with almost no damage. And believe me when i say when you find the former rage-quitting will happen a lot and you may have to restrain yourself from throwing the cartridge into a nearby intersection.

So the list so far stands at

Lost Kingdoms
Lost Kingdoms 2
Quest 64
Disgaea
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Mischief Makers

feel free to add your own. Hi Yahtzee!

Well, he hates RPGs so you are not off to a good start.

He likes Survival Horror games and the ef pee ess games with lots of shooting and a pretty story. The worse and more boring the gameplay in a game the more likely he will like it as long as it has a story and not too many game bits.

I think that he might like Second Sight and Haunting Ground for the PS2.

He did like Portal and Psychonauts. I think he just likes original games with original gameplay that can keep his attention. Not that I can offer any right now...

Yahtzee is a big boy, he can decide the games he'd like for himself!

Besides, he normally hates RPGs; especially JRPGs, though Western RPGs do stand a better chance if it's made well.

I do too actually, but windwaker link has these creepy eyes and TP went all angsty on me. Kinda like warrior within did, way back when.

I don't see why nintendo gets away with angst when warrior within got thrown in the ceremonial woodchipper along with linkin park and entire stock of black eyeliner within the state of kentucky.

i dont actually live in kentucky but you get my point anyway.

Man I would pay to see a ZP of Disgaea. There are so many things wrong with that game... something along the lines of "and I thought mmorpgs had the market on grindyness" would be said I'm sure.

I'd be fairly surprised if he didn't like any of the Baldurs Gate games (pc or the Dark Alliances), but I might just be going off of having basically the same taste in games that he does.

I would take a guess on Demon souls, mainly cause it has a character creation and it's openworld-ish, yahtzee tends to go for that stuff, that game is freakin hardcore!

He liked Assassin's Creed's gameplay. I think he will like Assassin's Creed 2 because it added new things and removed most, if not all, faults and flaws.

some of the game Yahtzee really must play are...

Superman 64
on the Nintendo 64

Plumbers Don't Wear Ties
On the CDi

Dr. Jeckle and Mr.Hyde
on the NES

The entire library of games for the "Virtual Boy: console

I think he REALLY DESERVES to have a go at these games!
All of those are already reviewed by AVGN. And I don't think Yahtzee reviews old school games.
