I liked Shadow of Chernobyl, but Clear Sky was just way too evil. I appreciate the challenge of a hard game, but when the opposition can snipe me with a shotgun, I start getting a bit pissed off. Clear Sky almost gave me an aneurism.

please leave a reason why and "because i think its neat" is not an answer
Well, under my own personal definetion of art, they ALL are art.

From Bioshock to Big Rigs, all of them.

It is just that Bioshock is high art, and Big Rigs is "we hit the bottom of the barrel and started digging" art.

Why not? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all. One man's trash is another man's treasure, and all that.

I think that even something as low-brow as Duke Nukem or Dead or Alive can hold just as much artistic merit as your oft-referenced SotC, Ico, and Psychonauts, if for no other reason that graphics and character designs.

On that note, I'm not gonna give my own list of games because I almost positive that I would be attacked to no end... for no fucking reason, suffice to say that my list and your list will have very little if any overlap.

Hmm... I think I repeated myself up there. Ah well.

No one's mentioned Takeshi no Chousenjou for the Famicom? If videogames are an artform then Takeshi no Chousenjou is one brilliant piece of Dadaism.

Art (noun)
1.The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power

2. Works produced by such skill and imagination

Google: Art Definition

more OT: I don't think all games actually qualify exactly but technically? perhaps. . .

My 'Game that is Art:' Machinarium pretty much just because it came to mind when I saw this thread.

Well, you'd have to analyze it by genre. For instance, Chrono Trigger did not set the standard for games like Grand Theft Auto, but it certainly did for other RPGs. And then it's not a question of the best game (visually, at least), but of which one best set the standard. All in all, my vote is for Pong.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

It is a postmodern game that gets you to question both your role as a gamer, but also to further question your role in society.
