Games you couldn't get into the first time, but loved the second time.

The idea for this thread came to me after trying out Bioshock for the second time. I played it back around the time it was first released via game rental, and while the game looked and felt amazing, I just could not keep playing it. I couldn't get into it for some reason. I decided recently that I wanted to give it another go, and now I'm loving it to death. The pacing, the voice acting, the atmosphere, all of it beautifully done. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm having a wonderful time playing it. So, fellow Escapists, do you have any games that you didn't like too much the first time around, but then played it a little bit later and then loved it?

I had that happen with Dragon Age:Origins. A friend bought it for me for Christmas, hoping to ween me off my WoW addiction. I tried it for 10 minutes and thought so...many...cinematics.... Picked it back up 5 months later because my internet was down and I had nothing else to play, absolutely loved it.

Goldeneye. My friends all played the shit out of it, I didn't have an n64. Mine was a playstation house. So I disliked the game that everyone but me was enjoying.
Eventually I gave it a chance at saw why it was so much fun.

Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squad

First time I played, didn't stay with it... second time around I enjoyed it and beat the game.

Nothing compares to Rocket Launcher'ing Darth Vader.

InFamous

I had only played the demo, which ended up boring me. However, after I received my "sorry bout the PSN" package, I downloaded InFamous and I love it.

Strange how the demo that was supposed to gain my interest had only put me off the game.

Fallout 3. And I'm having a much better experience with Dragon Age 2 the second time around.

As much as it pains me to admit, I really hated Mass Effect 1 the first time I played it. The only reason I gave it a second chance was due to total boredom. I was at the midnight lauch of ME2 dressed as Garrus, nuff said.

Oblivion, yup, Oblivion...
First time I played it was on my xbox and it was kinda slow for me, I wasn't used to it.
Now that I got my laptop, I got it and decided that I can finally do all those cool mods and such. All in all, I like it ^^
Another game is Fallout 3, kinda goes with Oblivion right there...

Another one for Fallout 3. I at first played it for only an hour or so and didn't really feel the need to continue onward. I then decided to pick it up again and once the story began taking shape I couldn't put it down.

^^ There's a lot of Fallout 3's there. I loved it the first time through, and still do.

I'm going to add Assassin's Creed II to that list. When I first played the beginning it didn't really sing out to me and I left it for a while. Picked it up again later, and LOVED it.

Gladius, first time I rented this I was pissed off because it wasn't a hack n' slash and returned it immediately.

Second time? LOVED IT. I bought copies on GameCube, PS2 and Xbox, one of my favorite games ever.

Just goes to show giving things a chance can make a difference :D

Oblivion, and to some effect Mass Effect. I thought it was pretty good when I played as MaleShep. I fell in love with the game when I played again as female Shepard. Both for the same reason: I need to RP and not just do what I would do, because I'm boring.

Even though I loved Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood I couldn't get into AC 1 the first time I played it, second time around I got into it... eventually...

It's funny how if you just keep going through something, something good may come of it. If I hadn't of given AC 1 a second chance then AC wouldn't be my favourite game franchise of all time now, nor would revelations be on my #1 most anticipated game spot.

Portal. The puzzles bored me and I got the humor, but it wasn't enough to carry the game for me. I played Portal 2 which had much more of a story hook and then went back to the original. Enjoyed the hell out of it.

Oblivion I didn't really fully 'get it' until I played Fallout 3. Then I went back and really enjoyed it. I guess it takes my love of fallout and *dramatic pause* SCIENCE! to get me to learn things :p

At first, I hated the original Splinter Cell. Later, I would go on to buy and play every game in the series.
