Fallout 3 and Borderlands, theres just something about a WRPG - FPS hybrid that Beth and Gearbox hasn't nailed down yet, they don't have an interesting open world (this is coming from someone who loved F1 & 2), the quests are boring and gameplay can get stale before too long.

Borderlands is a much better game than Fallout 3 though, it has great loot and a car, I did play the game in singleplayer so maybe it needs MP to make the slow parts of the game fun.

Command and Conquer 4

The story was a main reason why I liked 3 so much (never played Tiberian Sun). And I kinda liked the gameplay switch to the mobile base thing, or at least the idea. But...the story in 4...dear god. I've never seen a story that felt so rushed. And don't get me started on your wife in that game.

I really hope it was simply EA rushing the developer to ship the game. Because that would mean the developer wanted it to be more but didn't have time. I sincerely hope that pile o' poo that is the story wasn't what the developer actually wanted.

The game I pick is Shadow of the Colossus. I mentioned this in another thread, but I actually feel guilty when I play it and don't feel like I'm having fun or exhilaration or any of those immersion and joy kinda feelings. I feel like I can predict the whole game, that it just goes in a loop with the minor variance being how the next colossus is killed, and that the controls are kinda wonky and Wander never really does what I'm directly telling him to do with the controller. Also, I've shot all kinds of lizards and never got an upgrade to my health/stamina.

I pleaded this in an another thread, but I would LOVE for someone to tell me what I'm not getting or how I should be approaching it, because everyone and their dog is in love with it and it's the first reflexive response to the "are games art?" question.
Basically this. Everyone went on about how good this game is, so I got the HD collection. Oh how I wish I had bought the disk version instead of downloading it, so I could trade it back in.

It is a very pretty game, I'll admit, even by todays standards, but the controls are utterly utterly broken. I found it extremely frustrating even just with riding around, let alone the colossus fights, and when a game is frustrating, it quits being fun, right?

I have since made my peace with it, but there is no way I will ever play it again.

In reply to you Estus, not sure if you knew this, but its only the shining lizards that give you bonus stamina. But it takes a good four or five tails before you notice a difference. Eating fruit on the other hand makes your health shoot up.

You may not believe this, but I would love to read that. Seriously and honestly.

I want to read that too
If more people want to see it I could sent it to the Escapist and see if they'll post it as a column or something like that.

It'd be cool to get some opinions on it that aren't... ya' know... mine.

Crystal Lizards...I haven't found any fruit but I'll give it one more go. I know some games require a certain mindset (Rez, etc.), maybe even an herbal one, maybe one where ignoring the mechanics is central to the experience. Maybe I shouldn't have to ignore the mechanics. We'll see. I'll start a thread if I have a revelation.
