Ninja'd, both on the choice of games and the chief complaints. I finished the original GoW mostly out of spite. On the whole, it kind of reminded me of that Woody Allen line about life being miserable but being over far too quickly. Unlikeable characters, boring meat shield enemies, forgettable story, and slog after slog after slog to an unsatisfying conclusion. And that last boss...seriously, fvck that guy.Smeggs said:The original Gears of War.
I just cannot understand why the hell it was so popular. Chainsaws on Assault Rifles? The masses are so easily pleased.
Seriously, the first GoW had to be one of the most frustrating, annoying shooters I'd ever played. I could not get into it. It felt cheap some of the ways that I died, and it pissed me off to no end that somehow my guy had enough energy to yell, "REVIVE ME!" At the top of his lungs, but apparently not enough energy to slide across the floor to safety (which they added in GoW2, the best game of the three imo).
The only reason I beat it was because I'd paid good money for this piece of crap after hearing such praise for it, and I was at least going to get my money's worth out of it. Ended up feeling like I'd been screwed out of $40. It just sucked.
Oh, and Halo Wars. I knew it was a TBS, but I was at least expecting a DECENT TBS. That was just sad.
But surely that effort is wasted if you don't take the opportunity to rant?Aidinthel said:Beyond Good and Evil
I'm not going to rant, but suffice to say I really, really did not like it. In fact, I disliked it so much that I decided I needed to finish it so that I could justify my intense loathing for the game if it ever came up in conversation.
I don't have much experience with a sword either, but I could still tell you that the full body heave Wander does when he swings it around is ridiculous.Hal10k said:Actually, yeah, that's the case. One of the few things directly stated about the backstory is that Wander stole the sword as part of his bid to "save" Mono. He wouldn't be familiar with how to use the sword.-Drifter- said:Also, and this is a pretty petty complaint, but the player character kind of looks like a twat, a twat to whom the concepts of running, jumping and swinging a sword are apparently unfamiliar if the animation is any indication.
I was gonna say this, I just didn't really realize I didn't like it until I finished it. It was very bland. Not much to it.Parkway91 said:LA Noire. Just the whole feel of that game didn't sit right with me.
I would've added that too, but I never actually finished. I wasn't huge on it from the start, but the homicide desk killed it for me (no pun intended.) The same case six or seven times, followed by a fetch quest and a shit ending.Parkway91 said:LA Noire. Just the whole feel of that game didn't sit right with me.
Wha...? I can fully understand why people didn't like the first game - I certainly don't think it's even close to perfect - but AC2 had much more restrictive gameplay, nothing was done to improve the core problems with the combat and it's story was terrible. And while I'll agree that Altair's personality is a bit thin on the ground, he has a decent, if uninspired and somewhat rushed, arc.Smeggs said:Because the first got quite boring and repetitive with resrictive gameplay and horribly slow and chorish combat. Also Altair's personality was about as interesting as a plank of wood with knives strapped to it.
The only reason I enjoyed AC2 and played Brotherhood was because the story to AC2 was much more fun and intriguing.
And a small rant.Smeggs said:Oh, and Halo Wars. I knew it was a TBS, but I was at least expecting a DECENT TBS. That was just sad.
