AC1. I wanted to know how the story ended. Knowing that the repetitive missions would leave me bored i forced myself to only kill 1 boss a day and then stop playing. So i made it through in 9 days.

I forgot that I did this as well more or less. I bought AC2 because it was supposed to be so much better than AC, but I wanted to know what happened in the original before starting it. AC2 turned out to be pretty good incentive to finish the original. I wasn't disappointed either. By AC2 that is, the original is still nothing but a great idea with horrendous execution.

Resistance: Fall of Man

For some reason I really didn't enjoy it but I pushed through and beat it.

Final Fantasy 13.
I am so darned bored with it, I got it back when it first came out and I can only safely handle half an hour chunks at a time before I need to put the controller down.
For context of how strange this is for me, I used to stay up 2 days at a time with my friend playing FFX over and over and over again.

A less recent example was Kingdom hearts 1.
Playing it after playing the 2nd was nearly impossible, the over all experience just wasn't very fun so I was only playing for the story, I believe in the end I just watched someone play it on youtube, skipping through the combat sections to get to the story.

Bioshock I didn't really like, but ploughed through because it was the only new thing in the house, I think i wanted something a little simpler.
Some games seem to go rotten part of the way through, Thief3 turned into a game that I didn't really like, at the end, but I couldn't not finish it as The Dark Project (it's ancestor) remains a holy relic for me.

The Prince of Persia (2008) reboot got very repetitve fairly early on, but I soldiered on through it I guess because I liked the platforming just about enough...and then it spat in my face by making me undue everything I had worked to restore in the final act and ending on a cliffhanger...yeah, I'm fucking glad the planned trilogy for that incarnation never saw the light of day.
The biggest kick in the balls from that was the DLC titled Epilogue.... which still left the story unfinished.

Tales of Symphionia: Dawn of the new world. I loved the first game, but the sequel was just so bad. I only beat it in hopes I could get over the easy combat, horrible main characters and removal of some of my favorite parts of the game but I was so wrong.

I wanted to love it so badly I beat it three times in hopes I would maybe like it on harder modes or by taking my time. Such a bad game. Never thought I would see a sequel which dropped the ball quite like that.

The most recent game I finished but hated was Alone in the Dark (360). Awful controls, terrible voice acting, and an impossible physics engine. But I came through and earned every achievement and sold it back to GameStop for $1 (I would have paid them $1 to take it honestly). After that I only play things I enjoy.

Assassins Creed 2. I had enough fun in the sidequests to complete the entire game (including getting all the achievements), but the main storyline completely destroyed any fondness for the game that the sidequests built up in me. It's not the worst game I've ever played, but it probably is my most hated because it completely wrecked a franchise that had so much potential and killed any interest I had in a series that I was so ready to love.

Plus, it makes me feel like I'm crazy that it's so widely considered a good game and an improvement on the first. What is wrong with people?!
I think it really helps to be a film enthusiast to appreciate what Assassins Creed 2 did. The opening cinematic after you beat up a bunch of people on the Ponte Vecchio was brilliant. The lines, "It is a good life we lead, brother."; "The best. May it never change."; "And may it never change us." always sends chills down my spine. What the game did better than the first Assassin's Creed is almost everything, but mostly character progression in the story. It helps to appreciate the finer points of cinematography and character development to like the game.

Should that be necessary to like the game? Absolutely not. The problem with Assasssins Creed 2 is that it was aiming for an "interactive movie" rather than an all out fun video game. From a film enthusiasts point of view, it's definitely one of the best games ever made, but from a consumer point of view, not so much.

Also, it helps that my girlfriend is Italian and we play it with Italian as the spoken language.

LA Noire, it was soooo boring and I did not enjoy it after the homicide desk, the cases were repetitive and disjointed and nothing felt like it was going anywhere and I hate cole phelps as a character, but my bother worked on it and lent me his copy so I felt I should finish it, do not get me started on how much the ending sucked though.

The original assassins creed I did not enjoy much due to it being overly repetitive but I had a schedule and managed to finish it before revelations which I did really enjoy.

Modern Warfare 2.
I was bored after only a couple of hours.
Luckily, I was already halfway through the game.

I was rather disappointed with that game too. The fan-made bug-fixes and GoG release have improved it quite a lot though. If my somewhat-fuzzy memory serves me at all the instability of the game had something to do with either Troika or Atari going bust and rushing it out in a last-ditch effort to raise some capital.

The story-points I think are somewhat lacking because of the source material, which was a bit too epic (in the old sense of the word) in scope to fit the style of game they made. I'm also sure that a misjudging of the target audience played a part too. I think they were aiming at the Baldur's Gate / Planescape fans as well as people who remembered playing the original adventures & SSI games, instead of the increased audience who'd been brought in by games like NWN/etc and were after more of those experiences.

--------

OT: Quest for Glory V. Oldie, I know, but gods that game shat me. I know 3D was in its early days, but it and the awful attempt at action-game combat really didn't suit a point & click adventure/rpg. Add in a broken engine and terrible (especially when compared to the previous games) story, I hated every minute of playing, but after so many years I HAD to know how it all finished.

Final Fantasy X-2. Good god I hate that game. It's quite telling when you can remember everything that happens in every other game of a series that you've played, yet when asked about one in particular you have no idea. This one is that for me. I've played it but my mind refuses to remember it. I'm glad I only borrowed it.

Both Force Unleashed games.

And I'm a former Star Wars fan. Former. Those games were the final straw.
