Metal Gear Solid is an agony to play. The controls are not designed to do anything right, and it is really a 'stealth' game in name and nothing else - every encounter boils down to trying to sneak, getting caught, and gunning your way out of it. That said, I still respect the first game for its incredible storytelling. It blew my mind on the level of mature, complex narrative a game could tell. On the second playthrough everything sounded a LOT sillier, but at the time, I found the monologues and twists poignant and riveting.
This exactly. I can't say how many times I've attempted to aim at something and accidentally emptied my clip. The dogtags! I must have the dogtags!

Bioshock: I don't do well with horror-ish games, or serious games at all for that matter, but this one at least made me listen for a while before I got bored and went back to shooting cartoons and zombies.
Also Oblivion, although I didn't particularly enjoy it (Probably because I tried to stealth through the main quest), any game where the developers give you upwards of 100 hours of gameplay deserves respect.

i don't really like the halo games, but i can see why other people do. just doesn't appeal to me that much.
also, pretty much every online multiplayer. it just doesn't interest me really.
Now CanOfPop, the above is an example of how to say you hate a game without trolling our forum.

[small]Just realised everyone i quoted was bashing Halo. Does that make me biased?...[/small]

OT: Fifa. I sit there confused, mainly because i don't have a rifle in "my" hands.
sir, is it not possible that his comment had a tone of jest to it?

Ghost Recon. Because the box keeps my desk level and the CD makes a good coaster.

Nah, I'm just bad at the game, but I understand how it's a good game to people that aren't rubbish at the genre.

Metal Gear Solid. The gameplay is phenomenal in theory, but for some reason I just never clicked with it.

For me, it's MOST of the games that come out of Japan. I often care little about the story and characters because, even if they may be "compelling" and well written and acted, the cultural differences are great enough that I generally find them to be distasteful to associate with for long periods.

In other cases, such as your average JRPG, even were I to enjoy the story, the simple fact that I don't care for the core combat mechanics that take up most of the game combined with the sheer amount of grinding one is expected to do means I'll probably never see such a game to the end.

Of course, I can recognize that even though many of these games are openly hostile to my pursuit of fun, there are often millions of people who completely disagree. As such, I can assume that the very things I do not like about many of the games from Japan are the very things that the fans enjoy.

Any RTS game. I really dont find them to be fun, but I see why other people do. I dont like ordering groups of units to do things and then watch the action, I want to be a unit in the group performing the action.

Halo. Like it or not it changed the fps world for ever. Maybe not with game mechanics and yea blah blah it's been done before. But smashing down the fps barriers and really bringing them to the forefront of game genres.
