Assault Retribution. Playing it again more recently, it's awful. I realize it's probably one of the worst games I have ever played.

Dark Cloud and its sequel, Dark Chronicle.
The games are not only monotonous, but excruciatingly long as well. The sequel has a pretty great soundtrack, though.

Dark cloud . I can believe i played through both thoses games from begining to end . So long and tedious . I tried to replay it and i just couldn't do it . Not that it's a bad game , but damn is it long and painfull to play to the end .

As for my own answer Fear effect . Now i know the importance of this game in the scheme of things , but i just cannot play this anymore. The controls are terrible , the constant disc swapping is annoying , the story is sky loopy ... But there are boobs .... So yeah ... You can see why i liked this as a child .

Well there's the Jak and Daxter games.

It's not that they were bad games, it's just... they don't really appeal to me as they did back then. The fact Jak 2's difficulty curve was all over the place and it's shitty checkpoints didn't help matters either.

Man. You guys are weird. I love those games, replay them at least once a year.

I'mtrying to think of gaems like that, but there weren't very many. Apparently my child self had good taste in games. Or a small pool of games to play. Either or.

Never forget.

Of course, we all know in retrospect what a shining example of design, QA and originality THAT was.

I think I liked good games but I just have different tastes. I mean, I don't like some of the stuff I use to, but I still understand why I liked it.

I didn't play a lot of games as a kid, so that might have a lot to do with it.

I more find the opposite, I think to myself "I was a stupid kid, why didn't I like this awesome stuff?!"

Most of the games I loved as a kid I'll love through their faults just for the nostalgia factor, but I'll throw in a mention for Monkey Hero, because I recently played Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. Yeah. I think anyone that's played Monkey Hero will know what I mean...
It's sad. That game made up at least 30% of my childhood.

If you haven't played Monkey Hero, in short, if you replaced Monkey with Link and Jellies with armoured dudes, and the world was structured the same as LTTP's, I honestly think you'd have trouble telling the two apart. Every single thing down to rectangular passages bordered with bottomless pits you can knock enemies into to the drop-down inventory separated into squares for each category of item was ripped straight from it. I could go on for hours. If Monkey Hero's graphics were toned down a bit they'd even look exactly the same.

Edit: In fact, here you go. Just... look...

I didn't really check the videos, but I don't think I'd need to check a Monkey Hero video for proof. It's right there wherever you look.
It's a damn good game (although cheesy as hell and uses a lot of irritating clichés) but that's because Link to the Past is too.

The friggin' game has bombs Firecrackers you can drop on the ground (or throw) to blow holes in fragile walls or damage enemies. You can press a button to lift an object above your head and then the same button to throw it, to damage enemies or to get stuff inside it. Shops in Monkey Hero (and its currency) work exactly the same as they do in Link to the Past (and Rupees). You get silver keys and gold keys in dungeons to open corresponding chests or doors. The world has several different dungeons you can visit in any order to get a story item you need from them. The world map is styled exactly the same and even has flashing pages above the areas you need to go to, not unlike Link to the Past's flashing icons. The UI is almost exactly the same in every single detail. GAAAAHH. I could go on for so long...

Quest 64. I thought that this game was incredible at the time. It was fun to battle monsters, learn new spells, and travel across the land.

However, that was my first rpg. Years later now, I find the game to be horrific. So many things wrong with the game, I can barely tolerate an hour of it nowadays. It has the basis for a strong rpg, but it fumbles in so many ways. Your character spins in a random direction after each battle, making it very easy to wind up backtracking rather than going forward. Weak characters, no money or items really... it goes on.

Aiden Chronicles: the First Mage.

I don't HATE it per se and it still has a very favorable spot in my mind, but I tried to replay it recently and the mechanics just DO NOT work as well as I remembered.

The story, characters, and setting are still great IMHO and I wouldn't mind seeing someone attempting to remake it with today's tech, but I really doubt it.
