Story usually doesn't matter much at all to me, but I had to make an exception with the kingdom hearts series.... You'd think Square Enix and Disney would have enough combined writers that they wouldn't have to recycle various Disney plots. That series is an abomination!

corpses sewn together, bad stories sewn together, you get the idea right? lol

Oblivion, despite its flaws and glitches it's still the best game I've ever played and invested the most time into.

I agree. I simultaneously hated and loved the card game, and I wanted Bellatrix to be a permanent member of the party. The story/plot are pretty. . . interesting, even for a Final Fantasy game. Though the other parts I think are a bit more subjective. I never really had issues with boss fights except for the final boss (which was a bit odd and out of place for the aforementioned interesting story), and the Status Effects were annoying, but simultaneously they were pretty interesting as well. I remember some big huge skeleton-zombie-dragon thing jumped out as a mini-boss fight and all I had to do was use a phoenix down and it died instantly.

That was IX, right? It's been so long I don't remember whether it was VIII or IX that had that mini-boss thing.

EDIT: Oh, and I don't remember the "point of no return" being so early. In fact, I recall that I could return to the world map and visit any place that mattered even just before the final fight with Kuja. But again, it's been a long time since I played the game, so take that with a grain of salt.

And for OT: I forgive the Metal Gear Solid series as a whole. As terrible as I am at stealth games and as convoluted as the story is, I honestly can't hate it even for its thirty-minute cut-scenes because the gameplay is so satisfying and the characters are extremely well characterized.
I might have missed something for the PONR section, but once the fog came in, you could still fly around the overworld with your ship, but I could never access any of the cities where I had a few sidequests that needed doing.

And yes, IX had the zombie mini-boss that could be insta-killed with a phoenix down.
FFX had one of those mini bosses, too. Zombie water dragon thingy. The only reasons I remember that thing was because of how loleasy it was to kill. And the fact that if it didn't die soon enough it would petrify your teammates while you're swimming underwater...and they would shatter when they hit the ground. :l This, of course, is before I realized I could kill it with a Phoenix Down. Oh the many times I watched Tidus sink and shatter on the floor...

I only forgave Dead Island for the numerous problems I have with it because it is surprisingly fun to jump kick zombies in the face while I'm sprinting at them, and watch their ragdolls just slam against the floor and sometimes watch Infected fly like they'd just been clothes-lined.

Forgave:
The Legacy of Kain: as a series not any one game: forgave pretty much all the game play bore, due solely to the story and plot twists and ... just go play it, trust me, the story is that fucking awesome.

Prototype: the story can fuck right off and i ate every one i could trying to figure it out to :/. it was forgiven because once i stopped caring about the why and set my self to 'Kill,Mame,Purge' it got a lot better for me.

Devil May Cry 4: mostly, Nero's personality. he's like a less compelling version of Dante, but cut scenes are skip able and in game play he's a lot of fun to play.

FolkLore: game play is pretty eh, not bad nor boring but not really great ether. the story, setting and worlds you visit are all very good, and bosses combat, for me anyway, made up for the normal enemys being dull an just kinda there

Punished:
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter: where to start :/
the plot sucks, the setting sucks, the dragon powers are nearly useless (the 3 you have) as they KILL YOU, even the SAVE system sucked. graphics where alright but that's all i can say good about it.

White Knight Chronicles: every over used RPG cliche is in FULL swing here.
helpless and 'tragic' princess? check.
evil empire bent on world domination threw the use of magic thingy? check.
commoner acquiring magic thingy and becoming a hero? check, bonus points for him being unlikeable to.
hero falling in love with the princess, at first sight? check, again extra points for the princess getting kidnapped right after to.
stranger drifter really being some epic badass who imports wisdom apon the hero? check.
now, to be fair, i actually expected about ... ALL of this when i got it, the real damning factor was they FORCE you to make a character,as there an online quest mode, thats fine, i dig, only, 'you' have no impact on the story, oh, your there, even in cut scenes but your really just along for the ride, don't even get you own 'magic thingy' the wreck shit with, no ... the unlikeable twit gets that -.- screw you game, don't force me to make an in game avatar only to have it not matter to the story, it a waste of my time

Ninja Gaiden: Sigma: difficulty curve, ALL difficulty curve here. it went from Blacks perfect curve to 'i needed to have mastered the game before buying it' yeah, there's an 'easy mode' to bad its not unlocked from the get go, no .... they only offer it if you die a lot, as if they game is say 'HAHAHAHAHA god you suck, baby wanna make it easier?'. fun fact about this game, i traded it for FolkLore :D which i still have.

Final Fantasy 12: never really liked Vann from the start, and the plot .... >.> i actually don't remember at this point, i only got so far before i just gave up and traded it in due to i just did not care if this world was saved or not, which is kinda of a big thing for me

God of War 2: it disappointed me, GoW1 was great, a few places where bull shitty, but over all the first game was the shit, it was a 'total package game'. then 2 came out and i was stoked and then i played it, yeah, game play was still just what i expected, but they turned Kratos in to an unlikeable prick, who was throwing i fit because 'his toys where taken from him for being bad'.

and that's everything that comes to mind at the moment

I Forgave and punish ME2 for its story, i cannot forgive the ending though, that, that was terrible.

i forgave the clunky combat in DA1, cus the story was great the characters were great and i kinda enjoyed the combat, especially being a tank, sitting there taking all sorts of punishment and shrugging it off.

i forgave DA2 for repetitive dungeons (both in the literal and terminology sense), the story was interesting even is it jumps at times and the continuity can be weird, the characters were great and the combat was fun.

Final Fantasy 13 here too. I *finally* finished it even though I got it a day after it was first released. I forgave it because I was playing it wrong before. Before, I had the audacity to think of it as a game, and I didn't like it. Right up to 30 minutes before the end, where I told the endless linear corridor to go eff itself and quit. After months of my mind telling me to forgive it, I tried it again last week, this time thinking of it as an anime, with interactive fight scenes. Maybe it was that, maybe it's because I've emotionally shut down for the most part IRL and only let myself feel emotions in my escapes and that has heightened my emotional attachment, or maybe I've recently lost the right to my testicles, but I nearly cried twice during that playthrough.

And to what Extra Credits (if that's forbidden to speak of now, my bad) said in their cutscenes episode, about how cutscenes are no longer rewards, and that was only back in the early console days, FF13 is my answer. In general the game is beautiful, but the cinematics took it to a new level; while BF3 is taking the prize for blurring the line between games and reality (visually-wise), FF13 takes it between anime and reality.

I forgave Dragon Age II. The story was shit but Bioware still knows how to make badass characters
I forgave System Shock 2 because even though the gameplay is hard and the difficulty beat me with a stick, the story was beautiful & scary Sci-Fy.
I forgave Deus Ex Human Revolution for it's difficulty when your attempting to play stealthy for it's amazing story and Adam Jensen.
...Dat Adam Jensen <3

I loved Catherine so long time almost completely for its aesthetics. The block-pushing was decent by itself, but the story and aesthetics made it a blast. There's no way I'd have felt the white-knuckle drive to make it to the top had it not been for the characters and story. Especially by the final stage, at which point I muted the TV and played "Burn My Dread - Last Battle" - my quintessential final boss music - on my stereo. It's my console GOTY, unquestionably.

I destroyed FFVIII for its story. It's so heartbreaking because at its best, it's the best FF, but at its worst it's the worst game of all time for me. The music is my favorite of any FF game barring To Zanarkand from FFX. The art direction is my favorite out of any FF game, tying with FFX's Spira. I've never played a game with flatter supporting characters, a more stupid twist, baffling dialogue writing, and unlikable lead characters. I'm such a sucker for a great romance among great characters, but Squall and Rinoa were front and center to the point where no one else got development. Add to that the Junction system and you have a very angry me.
