Borderlands. Borderlands Borderlands Borderlands.
Borderlands.
Borderlands.

Borderlands.

[sub]borderlands.[/sub]

I've owned it twice, and liked it neither times.
I bought it, played it, got bored really, really quickly; sold it.

Then a year later I bought it again with the Expansion packs, to play purely cooperatively online and offline, always with friends... and sold it before completion again.

Give me any RPG or MMO, and I'd enjoy it. Give me any Co-op game, and I'm 99% likely to enjoy it. I just hated Borderlands and I can't quite put my finger on it. I think it just felt tacky.

Actually, I hated Dead Island too - for the same reason. Just felt tacky. I got lost, saw the same zombie 3 times in the same pose at the same spot when I walked passed looking for the objective; so I turned it off and gave it away.

Oh, I shouldn't forget to mention Diablo, Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy games too.

Top-down is a less entertaining format for me; hack-and-slash grew repetitive and mundane, fast; and I just found them all moderately boring (except FFVII, that was tolerable) - respectively.

any pokemon game that isnt red (people blame COD for releasing the same crap every year. Pokemon does it with every generation releasing 2 almost identical games, then a third one the year afterward)
Any MMO
any DOTA/LOL type game
any kingdom hearts game after 1
starcraft 2 and diablo 3
Gears of war series
Assassins Creed 1
halo CE:A (the same game ive already been playing for the last ten years but with a HD texture patch that looks like crap)

something else controversial (at least on this website) i like COD, Battlefield 3 and i like the looks of the new Devil May Cry game.

I have to agree with you on the whole bethesda thing. They can make big interesting worlds filled with stuff to do and a lot of them are fun games. But they can't write for shit is what it basically comes down to. Which is a shame, because as obsidian demonstrated with new vegas, if you do have good writing in a open world sandbox type bethesda game, it's really damn good.

Which brings me to what I wanted to say, which is that your avatar is fucking awesome. I think I am jealous.
hence why all the praise for Skyrim annoyed me, I mean I'm glad skyrim exists because it bucks industry trends but I felt it was getting free passes for things, I don;t think the writing is that awful, I think it just requires a little more effort

Recently, Max Payne 3.

That game is just a fucking abortion.

And if I only had an issue with the horrible, obnoxious, overly gritty story, or Max's retarded decision making skills and whiny attitude, I could notch that up as personal preference. But the gameplay itself is just a mess, with unskippable cutscenes, cutscenes that thrust you into a gunbattle for no fucking reason, changing my equiped weapon during cutscenes, and a shitty cover system.

How this game gets a free pass from fans I have no idea.

I thought the ending was pretty brilliant. Nothing Mario could've pulled off.

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

Hated the fact that when you're out and about, other gang members would try to invade your 'hood'

Hated the fact that they glamorized being 'gangsta'

Hated the fact that when you take over the entire area, hoping that would end the whole other gang member's silly antics, shit hits the fan and you have to start all over again.

The Half-Life Series and the The Witcher 2 both come to mind. Those games are shit.

The cover system just ruins the entire game. I don't WANT to sit behind chest-high walls, but if I don't, I'll just get slaughtered, since the enemies all have amazing aim and you only get a few seconds worth of bullet time per fight, and even diving costs bullet time now. The entire game has just strengthened my belief that the series should have ended with the second game, because that was a brilliant game with a brilliant ending.

Final Fantasy games(i hate the combat)

CoD, Halo, Gears of war, assasins creed(generic FPS and a game where everytime i jump off the highest building into a haystack and survive i just rage inside a bit)

League of Legends, no point in playin a gimmicky shallow game that attracts every possible demographic when i play dota

I can't stand most turned based RPG's, with the exception of FF6 and 4, and recently 7 (now that I'm playing along with the only good LP I found of it) every other one is boring as all hell.

Also, every FPS with the exception of Bioshock games.

I think it's more fun to talk about love than hate though *passes the joint*

And if I only had an issue with the horrible, obnoxious, overly gritty story,
^A major, recurring theme in the story of Max Payne.

or Max's retarded decision making skills and whiny attitude,
^His background and story is a root cause.

I could notch that up as personal preference. But the gameplay itself is just a mess,
^It's the style carried over for the previous 2 games, it's different to your classic 3rd person shooters.

with unskippable cutscenes,
^They're the loading screens in this game. It's better than staring at a black screen for that length of time.

cutscenes that thrust you into a gunbattle for no fucking reason,
^Most shooters do that at some point.

changing my equiped weapon during cutscenes,
^Actually, the game got praised in reviews for NOT doing that, unlike 99% of shooters in existence.

and a shitty cover system.
^That works quite well.

How this game gets a free pass from fans I have no idea.
^For actually retaining the series' core distinctive features, whilst improving everything else; and for being one of a very few minority of games, that are actually "sequels" and not just standalone expansion packs or completely different games carrying the same title, maybe?
Yeah, I did a douchebag critical evaluation of your opinion/verdict. Sorry dude, I just plan on getting this game and I absolutely loved the originals, and what I have seen of MP3. I think this needs to go into the Other People's opinions you just can't accept [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.377341-Other-peoples-opinions-you-just-cant-accept-Everybody-gets-one] thread :D

So wait, you feel the need to critically evaluate my opinion of a game you yourself haven't even played yet?

Prepare to be surprised by a truck load of "I told you so" when you finally do, because this game is dogshit.

Binding of Isaac. I know this game is suppose to remind everyone of Nintendo Hard days, but you are forgetting one crucial element. There were easy games back on the nes too. Bayou Billy and Battletoads were the exception. Everything else was quite beatable.

I think the problem is that you need to get to the ending. It's like selling a book by saying "it's fantastic if you just slog through to the last few pages".

Personally, I quite like Braid as a gimmicky puzzle-platformer. But I've already given up reading the story bits because the writing made me want to harm small animals. Not my thing, I guess.

Out of interest, is the ending good because of story-stuff or gameplay-stuff?

Portal. The gameplay was extremely dull to me, and the sequel looked exactly the same in terms of mechanics.

I hate the first Saints Row game. I got my 360 a fair while after launch, and naturally caught up on some launch era titles. Kameo, PGR 3, NFS:MW and everything else I played from that time held up, and I enjoyed them despite their age. But Saints Row was just garbage. I couldn't play it for longer than 30 minutes, it's the only 360 game that I bought and didn't finish. So I gave it to my brother, a massive sandbox fan. Even he hated it. Thankfully it was only $9.

I also think all CoD games after 4 are awful, but I'm not quite sure that's an unpopular opinion.

I don't usually just hate one game, i hate all games in a series, and rarely any game from a give developer or genre. So, are mine:

ALL JRPGs ( especially final fantasy)
Almost anything made by Nintendo
Max Payne
Civilization
Command and Conquer

However a game which i like but everyone seems to hate is dragon age 2. I know thsi is off topic, and i dont wanna start a flame war, but in my personal opinion, it was far better then origins

All Rockstar games, Halo, Gears of War, Final Fantasy, Zelda games, Starcraft, COD, Dragon Age and umm... that'll do for now.
