Ninja Gaiden 2. I heard it was super solid. I died a few times. Didn't feel awesome and gave it up because I didn't think I'd be able to complete the thing, so why waste a TV when I inevitably threw something throught it? Tenchu Z. I felt Tenchu on PS1 was more responsive and had better handling and graphics. I also gave up pretty quickly on Street Fight 4. It wasn't SF2.

Fallout: New Vegas and Morrowind.

My compulsive looting habits make anything take me FOREVER. Good games, but fuck 'em. It took me about 150 hours to just do the base Fallout 3 , FFS.

Oblivion's scaled loot nullifies any such issues, by making 99% of scavenging outside of dungeon loot chests pointless.

Final Fantasy VIII - Just could not get into it. At all. IDK why. Love 7, 9, X, X-2... Hate 8.
I never finished VIII either. It took me ages to finish VII and IX though because of faulty memory cards that kept needing reformatting. I loved VIII simply because you could break it through copious, copious, grinding.

---

Quest 64. I only played it as a youngster and really couldn't get into it. Luckily it was a rental.
I loved Quest 64. Granted I was like...8 when I played it and was really just spamming whatever attacks I had. In fact I think it's just the old nostalgia filter protecting it. If I played it now I'd probably hate it.

SAme here, it was probably 2 months of playing before I ever actually FINISHED fallout three. I'm still chugging through new vegas. I have to see EVERYWHERE! Steal EVERYTHING!

Star Ocean III: Till The End of Time - One of the worst games I ever tried to play, frankly.
Well 8 is the black sheep of the family, everyone seems to hate it.
That does seem to be the general consensus. I liked it however. On the other hand, I started 7 twice, and both times stopped before the ending. I don't really know why. After a while I just lost interest.

I have actually not finished a lot of games, but I think the most notable to date is Oblivion. The reason: mods. There were basically some things that I didn't like very much about Oblivion (although I was kind of enjoying it), which led me to discover the mod scene. Once there, there was just so much awesome stuff coming out that I basically spent all my time reading about the mods, searching for them, mixing and matching them together, and waiting for new ones (or versions) to come out. Of course, the original game was carefully balanced by Bethesda, and that sort of thing just tends to go right out the window when you apply a lot of different mods. So when I did actually got around to playing it, it wasn't that much fun, and since I could never go back to the original version (without the enhancements), I eventually just stopped playing. I'm an idiot, I know... :S

There's several games that are like that for me.
There's one that stands out, though, and that is 7th Saga.
I mean, I never considered it to be a particularly good game. It's damn hard and punishing for an RPG, though, so I made it a personal challenge to beat it around the time I was playing through pretty much every 16-bit rpg I could find.
First try was sometime around 1998. I've done 6-7 runs over the years, and can never go past the halfway point (or at least I THINK it's the halfway point) before eventually losing interest.
Some day, though, I'll conquer it, and it will be Awesome.

That's exactly the problem I'm having with New Vegas. I'll be playing through some missions, stop playing check NewVegasNexus and suddenly it's like christmas! "Ohhhh an engraved silver desert eagle!? download" or "A mod that adds in 50 new areas all packed with modified weapons!? DOWNLOAD!?"

God of Wa- Dante's Inferno, I quitted almost at the end of the game because I couldn't figure out how to get out of some room, that coupled with extreme boredom and running out of jokes for my cousins ("Oh, Divine Comedy Dante would've DEFINETLY fainted there").

Spider-Man 3, didn't run well on my pc and I was getting tired of hearing Spidey with a thick spanish voice actor, besides I was getting annoyed of everyone pronouncing "Spidey" as "Speedy".

Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations, even though it's a fun game I just stopped playing during DeKiller case.

Contra... I remember I used to beat it in an afternoon when I was a little kid, what happened to me?

Too human. Maybe I should have tried the Co-op. But another player wouldn't help the horrible combat, the craptacular story, or the horrible graphics.
You didn't miss much not finishing it. I (somehow) managed to play through to the end. Which comes out of nowhere btw. I was going along, minding my business, waiting for the next level to load when suddenly the credits popped up. Wait... What? That was it!? Four levels of samey, grindy combat and you have to gall to wind up for a sequel hook?! BULLSH--!

That game was a travesty of bad decisions. Someone seriously needed to hold the designer down and explain to him/her that you need to develop your game beyond four levels if ever hope to have a sequel. This was probably the worst example of jumping the gun I've ever seen when it comes to sequel planning.

OT: Rise of the Argonauts. I make a point to try as many RPGs as I can. Sometimes that bites me in the ass. Especially when games claim to be RPGs but really aren't. Horrible animation. Horrible writing. Horrible combat. Didn't make it past the 1 hour mark.

Also Chronicles of Riddick. I really don't see the appeal of this one. I felt like the various parts (Brawling, shooting, and sneaking) were all really poorly stitched together. Plus the voice acting/writing is horrendous. The part that clinched that for me was when a woman asks pleadingly about her daughter and Riddick replies (straight-faced), "The darkness protects her." Rather than asking WTF that means the woman acts all relieved like that explained everything. Right...

And Gothic 3. Huge, gorgeous, interactive world that calls out for... wait, is that the combat? Is that the animations? Really? Wait, why can't I block animal attacks with my shield? Why is that person just standing there while I chip away at his buddy's health? Why are the friendly NPC's too polite to help in combat? You're not going to step on my toes I promise. I love exploration in games, but this one can F.R.O.

I have more, but I think I'll quit the bile dispensing now.

I couldn't finish that one either. Not because I couldn't get into it, but because I got to this one Boss fight where my playstyle up to that point wasn't going to work AT ALL, and there was no way for me to go back since Square had decided to pull a massive dick move and lock me in the tower where the Boss is and place the save point behind the point of no return. So my only option since I wasn't save scumming, was to restart the whole game over again, so naturally I said "fuck that."

Other games I couldn't finish:
- Sonic Heroes, those blasted special stages drove me up the fucking wall.
- Persona 3, got all the way to the final boss, but I just couldn't beat him. Got within 1 or 2 hits of beating him twice and that really pissed me off.
- Mega Man X, I never could get past that fucking spider thing on the first Sigma stage.
- Spider-man: Web of Shadows, I got sick and tired of being Luke Cage's ***** while waiting for the plot to advance.
- Star Trek: Legacy, could never get past that early NextGen mission where you have to prevent stellar fragments from hitting some planets.

...and a shit ton more that I can't think of right now.

Oblivion, simply because it's so overwhelmingly huge and completely unimmersive, I just can't get into the game at all

The Witcher it was a great game and I enjoyed the gameplay I just couldn't stomach the sexism.

Oh and Final Fantasy 13 the horrible characters made the linear gameplay a nightmarish experience.
