Title says it all.

Now anyway, well, *looks both ways* I LIKE ALPHA PROTOCOL!

You heard me right, I like this game, I liked the story, the gameplay, and the characters!

I keep hearing how critics complained it was glitching as heck, but I played through a good few hours of it and it turned up reasonably well and enjoyably challenging (aside from how Mr. Thorton can stick to cover behind some objects and not others). The story was slightly confusing but I found it enjoyable and it showed some fascinating insight into the world of espionage. And the characters are pretty likable, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, also, the reputation system makes how you can influence people and how their opinions of you can affect the gameplay alot of fun.

Does anyone else have a game they like that's usually poorly received by other gamers?

You might as well just turn this into the Alpha Protocol thread now. My answer is also Alpha Protocol. Tremendous potential in that game. It didn't quite come together, but on the few occasions it did it was pretty special.

Fable 3, Dragon Age 2, Brink and RE: ORC.

So Fable 3 and DA2 are not as good as its predecessors. Alright, but they're not exactly a piece of crap sprinkled with piss. They're good but if you're gonna compared them to the prequels, of course they're probably gonna end up looking bad. They're just a different kind of fun. Is it strange? Yeah, the developers probably should have stuck with the winning formula and added just a bit of something different just to call it a sequel. But they're alright anyway.

Brink and RE:ORC were...good. Hey, I enjoyed them a lot. And I probably would have bought them if it wasn't because those games were meant to be played specifically online. We all know the AI in those game is just beyond horrible. The classes are fun, the gameplay is okay but you can't possibly play alone because the AI will just end up getting you killed. It's just rage-quitting bad. If they could turn those game to online only (Gotham City Impostors, MAG, etc), I'd buy them right away.

One game that I really enjoyed that many others wrote off was Crackdown. The running and jumping and fighting was so well done, along with the collecting aspect of the game. I'll admit there wasn't a ton of content there, but just jumping from rooftop to rooftop was a blast, and with enough creativity, players could sort of create their own little games to play within the world. It's also one of the best co-op games I've ever played.

I feel like too many people overlooked Crackdown as an inferior clone of GTA or Saints Row (which came out at around the same time as Crackdown I believe), but it wasn't either of those things at all; it was an entirely different experience and it was some of the most fun I've had this generation.

Alpha Protocol was a good game. Well worth the 5 dollars I paid for it.

Gears of War is also a contender. It's not like other shooters where you die in 1-2 shots, which is nice, since being caught off guard isn't always a death sentence.

I enjoyed Alpha protocol too, quality game but not quite the graphics to get anyone excited.

Someone else mentioned Crackdown, also a quality game that got hammered for having the latest halo beta on it at the time...it became a joke because of that and nobody took it seriously which is a shame because it was actually quite fun if not challenging or difficult.

I'll add Duke nukem forever to the list which after all the negative reviews i'd read, i wasn't expecting to be anything at all. Quality game though which i laughed often while playing, despite some of the sections being really hard and frustrating (not to mention the load times being a disgrace).

This is going be almost entirely alpha protocol, these always are.
This website seems rather fond of that game. To say something different, I'm going to say crysis 2. Sure it wasn't universally hated, but a lot of people got angry at some of the suit changes. While I agree the suit wasn't very good, the shooting was improved so much that I feel it makes up for it. That game has some of the best gunplay in any game I've ever played.

Yeah, Alpha Protocol was what I thought of as well when I read the title, so perhaps the majority did like it. ;P

FFX.
Yeah, I know that quite a few people like it, but they are scarce on this site.
Basically, it is my favourite Final Fantasy.
I love everything about it.
The story is genuinely engaging, and has plenty of amazing moments.
The characters are well developed and likeable.
The turn-based mechanics are the best they've ever been, as well as the levelling system.
It looks incredible, and the soundtrack is some of the best of Nobuo Uematsu's work.
I honestly do not understand why it gets the panning it gets from some fans.

Wait, people disliked Crackdown? This is news to me.
Edit: As for me, it would have to be Halo 2. It was my favorite game in the series, to be honest.

Chrono Cross, when it came out.
---->At the time it was 'raged against' by many gamers (though most critics seemed to love it) because it wasn't a PROPER 'Crono/Chrono' game.

Recently?
I REALLY love EDF:IA, it's like 'God Hand'.
Just one of those great throwbacks to the old days of gaming.

Ok, well, I liked Duke Nukem Forever. It was no Duke Nukem 3D and it had some pretty jarring changes in tone but overall i had alot of fun and it felt good to be playing a game that didnt take itself too seriously.

Crysis. Everyone says it was a shit game that's only upside is it's graphics.

I personally think it's the best shooter ever made (including Half Life) and that everyone ignores the amazing gameplay to focus on the graphics.

Final Fantasy XIII.

The linearity never mattered to me and I loved the story, gameplay and characters. Basically, its one of my favourite games ever and I'm cerrtainly looking forward to XIII-3.

I have only met one other person who enjoys Dynasty Warriors.
Which is a shame, because in my (not so) humble opinion, Dynasty Warriors is fucking awesome.

Crysis is actually pretty damn popular. It's the second game that people don't like that much.

I've got to go for Final Fantasy X as well, I know the main character is very very whiney, but the combat and Auron made up for it, one of my favourite games on the PS2.
