Final Fantasy XIII: I thought it was a decent game, and not really deserving of most of the hate it gets. I can understand why people would get irked by the linearity of it though.

Metal Gear Solid 2: As someone who has played all the MGS games, I thought this was a good game. Although I'll admit, it does sort of seem like a dick move to have someone else be the main character with absolutely no way to know about it beforehand. Still though, I liked Raiden, and the sequence right before the end of the game has got to be one of the weirdest and funniest moments in the series.

I couldn't help but notice your Calista avatar. I'm currently playing though The Last Story for the first time right now and I'm having a great time so far. :)

Mephiles is my favorite Sonic villain to date. I also hope they do more with Mephiles. I haven't gotten very far yet. The only problems I've encountered are frequent framerate drops because the game was poorly optimized, but that's really all I've seen. Although I stopped for a while because Silver. I can't stand Silver's control scheme.

James Bond: Quantum of Solace, yeah that's right, I enjoyed a cheap quick movie cash grab tie-in game. So sue me. Also Brink was really fun for the first two hours then the cracks and seams started to show.

Halo ODST was probably one of the better halo games I've played (I've played through them all except for reach, which I missed). The atmosphere was much more involving, particularly the crawl through the city at night. Halo Wars was better than people made it out to be as well.

Pokemon Black and White. I know a lot of people consider GEN V to be the worst, but I consider B/W to be either the best or second best game in the series (not counting remakes and spinoffs, the close competitor is Gold and Silver, followed by Ruby/Saphire, then Red/Blue, then Diamond/Pearl). This is mainly because all the features with the exception of the use of the touchscreen are much more refined than in any other version, and the story was much better, in that it not only existed, but it was quite good (albeit it was Nintendo-ized, I honestly feel that they could have made Team Plasma much more complex than they were, and really played up the fact that if this were in the real world, most of us would probably agree with N).

Pretty much every game by Troika and Obsidian. I always hear people talk about how buggy they are, but I've never encountered any serious bugs in them and have always got years of enjoyment out of them (except for Storm of Zehir and Dungeon Siege III, which I haven't played). If I made a list of my top five favorite games of all time, V:TM Bloodlines, KotOR II, and Alpha Protocol would all be on it.

Dragon Age II is another game I enjoyed that attracts a ton of hate. I actually liked it better than DA:O. The main problem that I had with the first game was that it was really, really tedious. You spent the whole time wading interminably through fight after fight in obscure locations. Even though there is supposedly this horde of monsters descending on Ferelden, you still have time to spend two years wandering around in the boonies doing quests for people so that they will lift a finger against said horde of monsters. I never really got the sense that the world had any kind of soul.

In DA II, however, you spend the whole time in a single city with a recurring cast of characters. This made it feel like you actually had a part in this fantasy society, which made the game much more immersive than its predecessor (for me, anyway). I also really liked the characters in DA II, whereas I was at best indifferent to your followers in DA:O.

I admit that there were a ton of awful design decisions behind DA II, but for me, the solid foundation of an interesting setting and enjoyable cast allowed me to get past most of these (although even I admit that the game pretty much falls apart towards the end).

I remember reading somewhere that the value of playing as Raiden is that Snake becomes just more of a badass :D

Raiden's a good character, just some of the dialogue could do with a tuning and people would probably be less put off.

Presumably because the story was just slightly above the level of bad fan fiction as far as quality goes. I did like the gameplay though, except for the first person missile thing, and even that wasn't a terrible mechanic except when it came to fast paced boss fights.
Yeah the story wasn't great but that still doesn't explain the level of sheer hatred directed at it.Just going by peoples comments around the net you'd swear Other M was worse than Superman 64 and Atari E.T combined

Well you know the Internet's tendency to blow things waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of proportion. The Internet would take the stubbing of a toe and turn it into the nuclear Armageddon.

Mirrors Edge, It wasn't perfect, they definitely ran out of time or money or something which meant it was way too short but it had a great parkour system and an excellent aesthetic.
Also I must be the god king of gaming or something because I found the controls and platforming easy as hell.

Same as Dfskelleton I really enjoyed Alone in the dark. Again, it wasn't perfect by any means but it had interesting mechanics and I loved just exploring the desolate central park and running terrified from monsters.

Assassins creed seems to get a lot of (in my opinion) unnecessary hate. I hear people saying that it was repetative and it took to long to get to the assassinations, but I thought that was the entire point and loved it. Taking the role of a methodical, calculating killer, slowly learning everything about their pray and waiting for the exact moment to strike. It was atmospheric as hell, something that I felt was missing from the sequels.
Also Ezio isn't really likeable to me because in trying to make him likeable they turned him into a sociopath. Altair killed with no emotion, it was just his job, ezio on the other hand kills out of hatred and revenge and five seconds after making widows and orphans out of everyone in Italy he is back to his old "Isa me, Ezio!" routine.

FFX.
Yeah, I know that quite a few people like it, but they are scarce on this site.
Basically, it is my favourite Final Fantasy.
I love everything about it.
The story is genuinely engaging, and has plenty of amazing moments.
The characters are well developed and likeable.
The turn-based mechanics are the best they've ever been, as well as the levelling system.
It looks incredible, and the soundtrack is some of the best of Nobuo Uematsu's work.
I honestly do not understand why it gets the panning it gets from some fans.
Yeah, pretty much this. FFX is a fantastic game.

In truth, pretty much every post-VI Final Fantasy could potentially fall into this category. All great games, but if they don't *exactly* fit someones expectations, they go apeshit. Never mind that Final Fantasy changes with every game as a general rule.

BRINK is a game with potential. For that I really like it. I do however hate Bethesda and Splash for failing to keep their promises and abandoning it.

Then there's my choice for this thread: Alpha Protocol of course. It does have issues, sure. But it was an amazing achievement for Obsidian.

The Binding of Isaac, everyone I know hates this game for no good reason. I don't know how many people actually do like it, but all I know is that everyone I know hates it except me.

As my avatar would show Prince of Persia (2008) yes it was repetitive and not as good as the Sands of Time but the graphics and character interaction was top notch, I'm still sad that their is no true sequel and that their probably never will be, also I liked it more than Warrior Within and The Two Thrones they were good but didn't have the polish or good story that SoT and 2008 had.

Everyone goes on about how the Kane & Lynch games are the worst games ever. I, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoy them both.

I'm gonna say Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. Absolutely loved it. Steam tells me I've spent 300 hours playing it so it was well worth the 50 dollars.

I'll never understand why those games receive so much hate
I can explain to you 2 of those games.

Alpha Protocol is unpopular because the reviewers are idiots who obviously couldn't figure out the game mechanics. I liked Alpha protocol.

Dragon Age 2 isn't liked because compared to Dragon Age: Origins and other Bioware games it is a steaming pile of shit. Even if you ignore it was made by Bioware it was a mediocre game at best. The story wasn't all that good and felt disjointed what with the acts being so closed off from eachother. The Characters were not up to Bioware's standard and let's face it chharacters are the main reason to play bioware's games. The other reason is the story. They butchered those two elements and focused on gameplay. Seriously the gameplay is all DA2 has in it's favor and it even fucked that up with guys appearing out of thin air. Wave based combat sucks if it as used as a core mechanic of a game that is supposed to be strategic. It can be fun to play DA2 but it is a Bioware game only in name.
