Games you logically should like but don't.

Does anybody have a game that, judging by your record with previous games in the series, the developer, or the genre, you figured you would enjoy, but didn't? I'm going to start by mentioning the Baldur's gate series. I'm a huge fan of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games. I even thought that quirky Sonic Chronicles game for the DS that Bioware made a few years ago that no-one bought was alright. However, I never got into Baldurs gate. I thought that, given that I enjoyed previous Bioware titles, one of the ones they made before EA neutered them would be right up my alley. However, it was all too complicated and unintuitive for my tiny mostly-console-gamer mind. I'm not saying it's a bad game, by any means. I just didn't like as much as I thought I would.

So all, what games did you think you'd like, but didn't?

No captcha, if the game was easy I think I'd feel more warmly about it.

Loved Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

Thought I'd go back and try the original CRPGs, expecting something amazing.

I was rather disappointed.

The games haven't aged well at all, gameplay wise, I just couldn't make myself play through such dated mechanics, no matter how good the RPG aspects may be.

The Witcher series, especially Witcher 2. RPGs are my favourite games and the Witcher has always seemed like a pretty solid offering. The story is nice, the characters have a nice shade of grey and the gameplay is well made as well. Yet I could never finish Witcher 1, always getting bored somewhere in chapter 3.

I wasn't sure about Witcher 2 comsidering I never finished the first one, but ended up buying it back in June. It looks fantastic, the combat is is nice and challenging and once again I find myself liking the setting and characters. Yet I never even completed chapter 1 and haven't played it since late June.

I really can't put my finger on what is wrong with them though.

Champion Online since it has a deep character creation and it make my dream come true by letting me played as my superheroes of my idea (I can't draw so I can only view it in my head).
Sure the creation is deep but there are alot of restrictions at what you can and cannot have on your character. Example I want a chest armour but I'm not allow to use a cape unless it's has a metal attackment, I just a regular cape! Also I can have a gorilla head but with no hats for the gorilla head to wear?
Sure playing as your character is fun but it competely loose the feeling of individual when they make you as a saviour of them all and see a bunch of other superheroes nearly.
Also it's the fact it's an MMORPG which is pretty much the reason why I drop it since it's a typical MMORPG (grindfest, escort quest, npc questgiver and wonky logics etc).

Deus Ex the first.
An RPG/Shooter mix with insane amounts of depth and near unlimited with an engaging plot and interesting characters that causes someone to reinstall whenever its very name is uttered? How could this not be good?!
Whoops it aged really badly and is kinda shitty.

Borderlands. Shooter? Check. Open world? Check. Crazy, over the top guns? Check. A lot of those weapons? You bet your ass that's a check. RPG elements? That's a check. Sci-fi setting with strange monsters? Check. Final product? Dull, boring shooter that makes Call of Duty look fun. Honestly, playing it just made me wanna play Bioshock or Resistance. Also, MLB 12: the show. I'm a big fan of baseball, so logically I should like a game that's a realistic simulator of the game. Yet, it has no tutorials and is so hard for a beginner of the series to get into.

I loved Fallout 3 and when New Vegas came out I was all excited. But then I played it and felt disappointed. I don't know, it felt more like a wild west type of thing. I did love how improved the writing felt though.

I tried going back to the original Fallout games. I got Fallout 2 for 50p at a charity shop so I thought "why not" but I was disappointed. Is it bad that it just felt too dated for me? Elements of the game looked great, but I just couldn't play it.

Super Mario Galaxy. I love mario games, and this one seemed all new and exciting and bright and colourful. But I just didn't enjoy it at all. It felt like the same thing again. I knew I should have expected more of the same. I just felt disappointed. I played it from start to finish though and I just couldn't enjoy it.

Metro 2033. I loved the book to death. I heard such great things about the game. I looked at videos of it and thought the atmosphere was brilliant and the monster design was great. I finally got round to getting a copy and I just couldn't get into it haha. I suppose I expected less fights with bandits when going through the tunnels.

Bayonetta

Made by the same guy who made Devil May Cry and Okami (which I was still thoroughly infatuated with at the time).

I fucking hated it though. Maybe it's that I grew up and changed from when I played DMC, but the moment the game started I was cringing at the screen.

Metro 2033

Love quite a few FPS games, also quite like story driven FPs games, Half Life etc
Love the post apocalyptic setting, STALKER is one of my most favourite games of all time
Game was created by a massive part of the former STALKER team

Hate the game, utterly hate it.

Dragon Age: Origins.

It's an old school RPG by Bioware, one of my favorite devs. What's there not to love?

....well, the entire combat system, apparently. While I loved the story, I could not get over how much the combat bored me, despite it structurally being very similar to KOTOR, a game I adore. I dunno, I just really hated it.

Because screw you, logic! I will dislike a perfectly good game because of some intangible factor I can't even identify!!!

My first fallout game was 3 as well, and I liked it, so I went out and got a fallout collection for my PC and absolutely loved them. Personally I think they blow 3 out of the water.

I supose if I were to rank em, I'd say:

1. Tie between fallout 2 and new vegas
2. Fallout 1
3. Fallout 3

Haven't tried Tactics yet though.

OT: Rainbow Six Vegas or whatever it's called. Decent game, but I just can't get into it for some reason.

I was in the same boat for awhile. Story sucked, and the game consisted of a whole bunch of wandering around in the middle of nowhere.

Then I played it with a friend, and it suddenly became about a million times better. Nothing beats nearly coming to blows over who gets the shotgun that shoots corrosive rockets.

OT Skyrim. I loved Oblivion and Morrowind but I couldn't enjoy Skyrim no matter how much time I gave it.
Actually I find nothing illogical about that given Skyrim is, especially in comparison to past Elder Scrolls games, a watered-down RPG, inferior in every way to Oblivion aside from the combat improvements.

Final Fantasy VIII. I'm a huge FF fan and VIII does everything I like in a Final Fantasy game, but I could just never far in it. Perhaps because I watched my sister play it so much that it felt redundant playing it myself.

Kingdoms of Amalur. An RPG in a fantasy setting with fairly solid gameplay. Should be right up my alley but the game just puts me to fucking sleep.
