Such an amazingly fun game. It may be better known than I suspect, but nobody I've ever talked to seems to have played it.
I was lucky enough to be one of the people who played it. My best friend had it and we played it all the time. Since then, I've been trying to track down a copy and then finally, last year, I finally found one. It's still today a great game and a long one at that too.
As for my own suggestions:
Eufloria. RTS light, where you control seedlings to attack/defend asteroids and use those same seedlings to plant either production, to make more seedlings or defense trees, to protect your asteroids from attacks. I quite like it and the small, but dedicated modding community helps extend the lifetime of the game.
Lode Runner 2. Puzzle platformer, where your objective is to gather all the gold of the given level you're in and get to the exit without getting killed. I've spent a lot of time playing that game, especially since there's a timer and it's always fun to try and beat the top time.
Desert Strike. A shoot'em up, where you control a helicopter from an isometric perspective. This entry takes place in a desert country(probably Iraq from the 90's) and there are a bunch of different objective, like blowing things up, rescuing hostages and such. It can be quite challenging, if you're not careful with how you handle things.
Fate of the World. This one might not be so obscure, but I haven't seen a lot of talk about it. It's a turnbased strategy game, where your objective is to save the world from global warming, while making sure it doesn't descend into financial chaos. It's really challenging, especially some of the later levels, where no help is given. I've spent somewhere around 50 hours, but I still haven't beaten the last mission. Still, it's great and quite informative.
