Dark Cloud and its sequel. I'm pretty sure the devs have moved on to Professor Layton and stuff like that, but they still exist! So, you know, they could make a Dark Cloud 3 if they really wanted to.

Likewise, Legacy of Kain (although that's more of it being old than obscure). My only concern about possible reboots is that if they exclude Simon Templeton the new version will automatically be vastly inferior.

I'm talking about 1 and 2, to my knowledge all of the others are terrible except possibly Birth by Sleep.

.... I don't think you're going to the right places then. I end up hearing about those fcking games constantly xD

OT: The original Unreal (Unreal Gold for the version that has the expansion pack bundled). As my first REAL game (that wasn't a weird point and click a la The Egyptian Prophecy or insane puzzle game like Keepsake) it holds a special place in my heart but nobody ever talks about it. At most I just see people talking about Unreal Tournament.

"Pants to that," I say. Oh well.

Probably because these are pretty old games, but I absolutely love Mega Man Legends, Threads of Fate and Mischief Makers. Those three are some of my favorite games of all time and I wish they got more love.

Honorable mentions go to Power Stone and Skies of Arcadia.

The X-COM series, in particular Apocalypse. While the first one is regarded as a true classic, I found APOC to be a whole lot more fun. You defended a small city with a distinct look and personality, as opposed to a world viewed only as a zoomed out globe and some mission sites. There was allot more depth as well, your relationships with the many organizations and gangs in the city affected prices and could even result in attacks or your base by armed humans. The SVGA graphics of APOC are much clearer and more attractive the the original, and the real-time combat is a blast, I'm sad that it's not going to be an option in the upcoming sequel.

Ginga Sengoku Gunyuuden RAI, a 1996 Super Famicom release that I found by accident. It combines real time strategy of building up planets and assembling fleets (with an interface so sublime that the lack of translation isn't a problem), and turned based battles between multiple fleets. The fleet action echoes of Fire Emblem as each fleet is led by a hero, those heroes can die and even defect to other sides if beaten during a boarding action (another cool real time tactical game in itself). If you mess around with SNES emulators and like strategy/tactical games at all get it.

Battlefield 3

Nah, just joking.

I'd say Grand Control 2. The RTS that just seem to have slipped under the radar but it is (in my opinion) better than Age of Empires and World in Conflict together. Can't say about the Command and Conquer series though.
I gotta disagree with you there, I loved the piss out of Ground Control 1, played it the expansion loved it all. GC 2 was a massive letdown, controlling single units instead of squads, fighting in some ugly city where you can't see anything as opposed to a hilly outdoor setting with lots of tactical terrain, and the cherry on top, replacing a sexy, rebellious, and morally driven female lead with a tool (ok i didn't really play enough to learn about him but just look at the guy:
http://habaza.net/uploads/posts/2010-11/1289837728_8181e4c0-7fee-4882-bae6-f2fdbedc7525.jpg).

I dunno, some of the screens I've seen do look damn good, maybe I should've stuck it out and played through it more, but it made a terrible first impression.

I really didn't like Dark Cloud 2 very much. It was a cool game but it honestly felt really repetitive from the building to the battle system. The story wasn't really substantial enough for how much time I poured into it (I got the secret ending so that ended up being quite a few hours).

I'm honestly surprised not very many people on here are talking about The Last Story. Considering how many Final Fantasy/Square-Enix threads there are on here.

Great game.

I played that game as a kid, and I've downloaded it off the PSN. My only real issue with it is that it was kinda short. One or two more visions would have made the game perfect.
I think it's because people have gotten so used to complaining about SE that when they get a good game from them they're not really sure what to say about it anymore. I would be happy to talk about it, but it appears I'm one of the only people ever to not own a wii.

And does anyone else like Go! Go! Hypergrind?
I neeeeeed Timesplitters HD on the PS3, I neeeed it or I will explode. That happens to me sometimes....

Technically The Last Story was made by Mistwalker. But a lot of the people who made the game did create the Final Fantasy games pre-square enix. Like Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu.

Well the marketing team did their job just fine then, since they played up the whole "relation to final fantasy" aspect very well. Though, to be fair, if I actually owned the game I'd probably already know that lol. I see now that they've only published Nintendo, ios and Xbox games, which explains why I've never read up on them.

Gotcha Force, WE NEED MORE GOTCHA FORCE! Seriously, one of the best games on the Gamecube. It's like a combination of Medabots and Virtual-On (though a more apt comparison would be the vs Gundam games made by Capcom but that's for a very niche audience in the US). I would love a port or remake to be on the 3DS.

The Penumbra series, it gets overshadowed by Amnesia though I would argue that Penumbra is a better game due to the characters and plot, I liked them more in Penumbra.

Also the various docs scattered around were much more interesting in Penumbra.
I preferred the premise, a lot more Lovecraftian than Amnesia, which seemed more like a regular haunted house.

Halo. WAIT HEAR ME OUT HEAR ME OUT! Really go back and look through the recent threads, either through history or through your mind and really try to remember the last time someone talked about Halo that wasn't in passing.

Mega Man ZX Series.

An underrated game series that simultaneously celebrates what made the Mega Man games awesome while innovating with special transformations, an interesting plot, kickass music, and a well done Metroidvania environments!

The first game I thought of when I saw the thread title was Jade Empire.
Seriously, I think it's one of Bioware's best games but no one ever seems to mention it even when Bioware is subject of the conversation.
Also, Neverwinter Nights 2. The Mask of The Betrayer expansion to be specific. One of the best expansions and just video game stories in general.

Bayonetta.

At the time it was overshadowed by a few games that came out that year and I loved that game to bits. If it does get brought up it normally goes into a Devil May Cry discussion, which isn't that hard, and it just gets discarded.

Also, there more hub bub about the character than the actual game which I thought wasn't fair at all since the game had some really fun combat and moves to use, even though they were ridiculous, and the bosses were fun too.

Rocket Knight Adventures! Quite possibly the greatest platformer of all time, ever. To be fair, maybe I just keep missing the discussion, because they very recently rebooted the franshise... apparently it was crap =[

Outside of these forums I hardly ever hear people talk about games that we talk about here often. Okami, The Darkness, Darksiders, SotC and Ico, Jade Empire, No More Heroes, Mirror's Edge... When I mention these to people it's almost always the first they've heard of them. Sometimes they will of heard of one or two of those, but there's always plenty they've never heard of.

Within these forums there isn't really much. I guess Muramasa doesn't get mentioned that much, but what is there to say about it? I'd love to have discussions about it but I wouldn't know what to talk about. It seems like the kind of thing that would come up on these forums a lot though. People here like similar stuff.

I guess Stubbs the Zombie is another. Nobody mentions that, and I have no idea why. Maybe it came too early, before the huge rise in popularity of zombie games. But it deserves to be spoken about. It's really quirky and hilarious. It's a real oddity, especially for when it came out. I guess the fact it was an Xbox exclusive didn't help it much either. Unless it was Halo or Forza none of the 1st party original Xbox exclusives got any attention.

I'd really like to hear what anyone else has to say about their experiences with those games, if they've had any.

EDIT: Just thought of another! Mini Ninjas! I don't personally own the game any more but I really enjoyed that. It wasn't very complicated, it was clearly a kids game, but it was really well done. It was beautiful and charming and just damn fun. You could tell a lot of love went in to making it. It's design has kind of an old school feel to it too, but not in an obtuse way. I was so sad to hear the sequel was a crappy Kinect mini game. I would have loved a proper sequel. If anyone here feels burnt out on super serious games which require huge time and effort investments and just want something to relax with then they should really give it a try. It's really cheap now, and you can even try out the first few levels for free in Chrome too.

If you are a true fan, then my avatar should be familiar to you.

I really do wish that they would make Time Splitters 4 already. They released some teaser trailers, and GI even did an article on it like a year or two ago.
Its harry tipper :D, and yes, it annoys me that crytek are sitting on the IP and doing nothing with it. *sigh* they'll run out of excuses some day.
