Games you own but just got around to playing

I'm a victim of Steam Sales, which amounts to having about 200 games (and humble bundle games as well). So I have a backlog pretty large (not including console and non-steam PC games).
Of those games I have yet to play, I finally broke down and started messing with the Mount and Blade series.
What I like most about them is how mod-friendly they seem to be. The first game has a nice star wars mod thats pretty fun.
I've not got far into any of them but currently am switching between M&B-Star wars and M&B-Warband Westeros mod. Both are engaging enough to keep playing (also have a LOTRO mod for one of em but haven't yet started that one).
Anyway, I love the series now because it fits with my gaming ADD. I get distracted often and M&B seems to feed off my distractions by placing juicy little enemies to hunt down or caravans to "guard" (read: plunder).
Any games you have had for a while and only just now started playing?

Spellforce 2. I bought it when it went on sale a few months (more like half a year or a year ago now) ago and only just installed it yesterday (mostly because my hard drive is small and I have to rotate the games I keep installed at any given time what with most recent games being 9+ GB and certain ones like World of Warcraft and The Witcher 2 taking up 20+).

I've been looking for a hero-driven RTS for a long time, I've loved what I've played of Warcraft III but don't feel it has enough RPG elements to it to satisfy that particular itch, and Spellforce 2 digs in quite masterfully. The average power of the heroes you get also happens to somewhat offset my natural inability to be better than "absolute rubbish" at pretty much every RTS ever made, too.

Warlock: Masters of the Arcane, I can't even remember which of the plethora of bundles I bought that this one came in, but when I found out it was a turn-based Civ-style strategy game set in Majesty's universe, I figured I'd give it a try and I love it. Many people might not enjoy it compared to Civilization V because it's got less "control" but I found the lack of micromanaging tasks like happiness to make the strategy portion much more enjoyable. Instead of constantly evolving technology, you have spells you research and unlock to wield in fun and interesting ways (the attack spells are nice but my favorite ones are the ones that literally change the landscape, you can turn water into land for example.)

The lack of happiness also means you can expand your kingdom as much as you want, there's no penalty for creating tons and tons of cities and managing them is so much easier. So Civilization V is definitely the winner for the amount of depth in the control you can do, but I much prefer Warlock for keeping the game centered rather predominantly in warfare strategy.

Oh, and there's even alternate "tougher" dimensions you can discover and build in to unlock high level units!

Not actually "owning" it since it's free game in steam, but Cry of Fear. Been looking this game for a long while but just now got myself around to install and play it.

I got dragon age origins as soon as it came out as a "goty" style pack and played the ever loving shit out of it.

Then dragon age 2 came out and avoided it, due to the trailers etc but I saw it one day at a silly cheap price and bought it. Went into it with a super negative mindset and so after 2 hours I left it alone for ages (maybe a year?) but it sat there looking at me, teasing me.... So I caved and went into it with a more neutral mindset and despite its flaws, it's an ok game.

On my second play through now... And I'm going to cheat my little head off!

Now that I finally have a decent computer, I can play a whole slew of STEAM games I've just had hanging out on my account. Everything from Brutal Legend to Warlock.

By the way, there are temporary downsides to rapidly building new cities. New cities are a drag on your economy for the first few turns they exist. Of course, they more than make up for it once they expand. If you didn't plan for it, establishing a city can slow down your march to victory.

That is true, though I tend to wait til I have a gold surplus and build next to areas that have lots of gold potential (my first map was an island that was all arctic so I had tons of gold... a bit of food shortage though.

I second Mount and Blade, I been playing the Prophecy of Pendor mod. And my experience with the game was been:

1- Form a gang of 10 - 20 guys
2- Get attacked by a enemy I never saw coming
3- Win the fight.
4- Lose all my mates except the one companion that can't die
5- Sell stuff
6- Go to 1.

Is a pretty unforgiving game if you are not paying enough attention. And I think that PoP is suppose to be a advance mod for those who already know the game a lot, but fuck easy mode... Don't need it.

I only recently completed my main goals in Diablo 3 and have now been able to work on my Steam backlog.

1) Dust: An Elysian Tale -> By far the game I was most looking forward to play and it did not disappoint. Fantastic gameplay, art style and voice acting. Great game all around and totally worth the wait

2) MW2, MW3, BLOPS, and BLOPS2: Single campaigns ONLY. I loved the original MW single player campaign. FPS online isn't for me and so I'd wait years for these games to be on a good sale to justify it for the single player component. Unfortunately, most of these games disappointed compared to COD4:MW. The quality was great, however, the gameplay felt the same. It was like playing 4 expansion packs rather than new games. And the storylines were either to confusing or not engaging enough as a whole.

3) Tomb Raider: Just finished this game yesterday and it was above average. I put along side Uncharted 2 & 3 in that they are well worth experiencing but I don't have much motivation to put a lot of hours into it. I'll likely revisit this game in a year or two but I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it.

4) The Bureau Xcom Declassified: I'm less than an hour into this one. Not much to say yet. It received very 'meh' reviews but early impressions are good. I've been in the mood for another Mass Effect style combat game and this one is filling that void. I've never played an Xcom game though so I have zero expecations. I plan to tackle Enemy Unknown next which I expect to be 10x better based on how players received it.

Other notable games on my backlog that I'll eventually play: Ys games x4, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Revelations and 3, Max Payne trilogy, Mark of the Ninja and Spec Ops:The Line.

I've had the original Killzone downloaded from the PS Store for about a year now, and held a disk copy of the
game for ps2 but have never got further than a level or 2 in before.

It's dated badly and the pacing and dynamic feeling of the ps3 sequels is not quite there, but it surprised me how good the shooting mechanics were, and how good some of the visual design ideas (such as the reich style helghast speeches) look even now.

I'ts really got me in the mood for the next installment, and i'm also looking forward to playing through the single player campaigns of 2 and 3 in anticipation.

Bioshock. On my 360. Granted in the 360 I just got the game this year. However, I have had it on my ps3 for quite a few years (since it came out and same with two) and haven't touched it getting it. I have also owned it in steam for a while and haven't really touched it (but that doesn't count as my computer is a pos and won't run it). Next is bioshock 2. After I finish with achievements.

I've got a massive backlog because of all those Humble Bundles. Most recently though, Dragon Age: Origins for PC. I love the game, the characters and the world that BioWare made. This is the game that made me a fan of single click autocombat (I played KOTOR afterwards). But I've never finished it. I've gone through the summon-individual-races missions and then just stopped. Either I get distracted by, well, life, or get sucked into a new game from a bundle.

The worst part is that I have the GOTY edition for PC and 360. Neither have been anywhere near completed.

Total War: Shogun 2. I must say, I regret playing Medieval 2 first since this one is easier on beginners.

DOTA 2 and Magika. Two things mates gave to me on Steam but I haven't even installed yet... There's always just been something else to occupy my time.
