Sometimes, it's straightforward enough. After catching "Goldeneye" on TV, you may suddenly get an urge to dig up the N64 and have a go of that version of it. But with a lot of things, there isn't a game immediately of it - however, there may be things that are close enough.

I thought of this today while watching Red Dawn. For those who don't know it, it's a 1980s movie about a Soviet invasion of the United States, and the insurgent activity by a group of teenagers. There wasn't a game of it (and if there was, it'd likely have been a side-scrolling platformer, as everything was at the time), but to get the feeling of it, there are a couple of other things I play. Namely, Operation Flashpoint: Resistance (fight back against soviet oppressors), Armed Assault 2, and World in Chaos (which is kind of like the military side of the same kind of war - USSR invades USA, hilarity ensues).

What do films and books sometimes make you feel like playing, then?

Also, here's a poster from the upcoming 2011 version of Red Dawn. They're here to help us, don't you know?

After watching Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers I have to play Company of Heroes.

Also, another good Soviet invasion game is Freedom Fighters.

I deliberately play old games like Space Quest and Police Quest bcause they remind me of when my dad used to play them for me when I was about 6. It brings back all these kind of memories for me personally.

That's what I read from the topic title anyway! But from the first post it sounds like you're talking about movies/tv that make you want to play games rather than the way I read it...
