Games you refuse to play

For whatever reason, explain why!

The only game I flat out refuse to play is Company of Heroes.

In my opinion, it's a crippled mess of an RTS. In any other RTS, you should be able to take early risks and scout your opponent to get some idea of what they might be planning. Not in this one! Company of Heroes is a guessing game. The game is decided in the first 5 minutes of play.

Here's a rundown of the average game:

You guess what your opponent might be planning based on the zero information available to you.

You wait 4 freaking years before you have enough supply to build a man with a pea shooter.

You inevitably have built a man with the wrong kind of pea shooter and he gets killed in two seconds flat.

You wait another 4 years to get enough supply to build a man with the right pea shooter.

Your opponent now controls the whole map and you have no supply.

Game over.

The whole game is a horrendous insult to the RTS genre. Imagine if in Starcraft or C&C you were only allowed to build 1 unit every 2 minutes regardless of how much supply you have. So if you make the wrong opening move you lose. No question. Then you have crap like units that resupply in the field meaning you build the squad once and from then on they are essentially invincible since they regenerate units. Is that how WW2 worked? Regenerating units??? I must have missed some important stuff in history class!

There's also the 100% historically accurate scenario where a squad of 3 men with a missile launcher can destroy a 20 ton tank in seconds flat while the tank fires fragmentation rounds from it's huge ass cannon at them, which explode at their feet and yet somehow cause no damage.

It's a monumental piece of crap, and I refuse to play it.

So what do you refuse to play, and why?

I refuse to play anything halo , i played halo 2 and wasn't impressed , i mean i could understand why people like it but not why it was so god damn popular not so long ago. I also refuse to play any gears of war game , but thats less because of the game and more because i hate 3rd person cover base shooters, so it's bassically the whole genre . So i stick with my first answer halo touched it once , never again.

I have boycotted the Halo series, as well as UbiSoft games, EA games, and Activision games. It sucks a very large amount that I won't be able to buy Mass Effect 3 or Dragon Age 2.

I boycott Halo for its suckiness, and everything else because of their business practises.

I kind of agree with the Halo thing, although I enjoy the multiplayer since it plays a lot like the classic online FPS games I loved as a kid, plus the slower pace I find relaxing for some reason lol. I haven't touched the campaign mode on any of them since Halo 2 though, felt like a chore since I couldn't get into the story line.

Shadow of the Colossus. After playing it for 15 minutes and realizing that the developers need to be backhanded for designing a game that sacrificed performance for artsy bullshit.

Seriously, no console game should ever suffer from the amount of chug that game did.

I'm boykotting the entire FPS genre, apart from those that don't play exactly like CoD. Both of them...

Everything else I don't play just doesn't interest me much, but I don't make a point out of not playing them. That's just taste. But the FPS thing is principle :)

You'd be surprised, that's not that uncommon :p

Any RTS game.

I only have a laptop so I can't really play too much on it without having the screen freeze up in mid play. Also, even though End War had a good layout, I feel as though RTS's don't work well in the console environment.

Stapling a question to the end of a rant? Not exactly original, but fine. I want to answer the question anyway.

I refuse to buy most DLC at the current prices (looking at you, Activision).

I'm also not gonna play Diablo 3, but I'm not really interested in it to begin with. The bullshit they're pulling with it just makes that easier.

PS: Company of Heroes is brilliant, and has some of the best atmosphere I've ever seen in an RTS.

You're not missing anything in not playing Dragon Age 2. It was an abysmal abortion after Dragon Age: Origins.

To answer the OP... not really, no. There /were/ games I swore I'd never play that I ended up really enjoying. Left4Dead is one of them. I avoid certain genres, like Horror, cause I'm a scardy cat, but if someone whose opinion I trust says I should try it, I will. I like to form my own opinions before deciding on anything.

Halo. I liked the first one, despite massive backtracking and taking the fun out of exploring the giant ring. Everything else I've played after the first turned into shit. Play one Halo game and you've played enough.

Final Fantasy: Its mainly because I didn't enjoy ff7 on first few hours of play. If majority of people contest that FF7 is the best of all series.. then there's no point for me to try anything FF

Fighting games: I don't hate it. But I don't make the most out of it.

I refuse to play movie tie in games, for obvious reasons. The only game based on a movie that I know of that was any good was the game for X-men Origins and I still didn't like it.

While I agree with what you say.. I dont go so far to boycott though but what do you actually play? Valve and indie games?

Anything published by Activision.

This is made easy by them not publishing anything I want.

Halo. Tried the first one and HATED it. I can honestly say that it is the worst FPS ever made.
I outright refuse to touch the sequels, since it was so bad that there's no way it could be fixed. Ever.
Bungie wasted their talents for years. They should have made an Oni sequel.

Not a game, but rather a platform. Despite the fact it is the console I would buy if I felt the need for console gaming, the whole Geoholt thing and a number of other assaults upon its customers [http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2011/02/sonys-war-on-makers-hackers-and-innovators.html] has soured me on the PS3 and Sony in general. Really, thanks to their burgeoning relationship with Valve and the fact the Resistance series might be something I like I really want to like the PS3, but it is made by a company that cripples inovation and cheats its own customers, and I just can't give them my money until they change their tune.

Gears of War. I really don't see the appeal, it's really dull to me.

Any movie tie-in game. Almost all of them are cheaply made just to make an extra buck.

Sports games. If I wanted to go play basketball, I would do it. Not spend $60 on a virtual version of it.

Final Fantasy. The biggest oxymoron in gaming is something I don't play. I only have played X a few times and will give it an OK rating. Otherwise, I don't like the series.
