I refuse to play BF3 untill the day, i can play it without having to install spyware on my computer.
I refuse to play MMO's because i don't ghave time for the hours of grinding i'd have to put in in order to get to what might be interresting, and generally not having time enough to commit to them, even if they're fun.
I haven't gotten any new COD games, after MW2, while i liked the game itself, the whole IWNet solution over actual servers makes half the matches i get into unenjoyable, and even those where i'm not beeing screwed over, someone else is.

Sports games.

Football, American Football or anything like that.

And racing games.

I hate them. Not just a small indifferent dislike, oh no, I have a seething burning hatred for them.

Yes I suck at them thats why I bloody hate them.

I refuse to play Final Fantasy XII and XIII. They're crap on opposite ends of the crap spectrum.
Wait wait wait , wouldn't that make 1 game good? Or if the spectrum is made of crap then one if very crap and the other not so crap?

I refuse to buy anything by capcom, because no matter what they'll always release a new version of it within 6 months, and never patch or fix any problems with the previous version. It's like they think it's still 1985 and they're making arcade cabinets.
Your only talking about their fighting games right?... Right?

i refuse to play runescape or world of warcraft.
they are the most sellout 'games' i have ever hd the displeasure of being introduced to.
i would rather hit my head repetitively against the nearest hard surface than hear one more snide comment about your bloody level up, ffs lol
DING ! 47! Also post number 1? Welcome to the escapists!

EDIT: well i posted already ( number 2 ) but i will add , i refuse to buy any DLC ever , unless it's free.
When games are crap, they fall on an entirely new level of rating called the crap spectrum.

Final Fantasy XII is crap because they screwed around with a lot of concepts they weren't familiar with, bundled it together with an unintuitive gambit system (which you had to pay for to use basically) and absolutely directionless board for leveling (or their name for it) that punished you for going the wrong way. It wanted to be a free and open RPG. It was done craptastically.

XIII on the other hand has the exact opposite problem. Apparently someone bitched about the directionless nature of XII because they said, "You are not allowed any real freedom ever again! Bad player, bad. Development? Strategy? Fall upon your own game controller! You get nothing! Sit in the corner and press A (or X) to make the lights and sounds and images start.

DO IT!

It was like they had a happy median before that and threw it out the window... into a dumpster full of nails and broken glass.

I refuse to buy or play any Call of Duty game on the principle that if I do it will just serve as evidence that nagging works. My friends have been trying to get me to play them for as long as the Modern Warfare itterations have existed and I simply refuse on principle now.

Also, MMORPG's. If I want to burn money I'll use a bonfire, or maybe a flamethrower to spice it up a little. I'm not keen on paying someone to take up all my time.

-MMORPGs
So many of these rely on grind to the point where they cease to be games.
This doesn't apply to all "MMOs", but I'm still not all that happy about being forced to unlock gameplay-altering content in any game based on execution.

-I would say Halo, but I gave just about every game in the series a fair chance to prove me wrong (only didn't play Halo 3), and they have mostly failed (the closest being Reach, which seemed to be the first time the series budged an inch from its progenitor in a decade).
So my exercise in trying to understand the hype behind Halo yielded little. However, it DID solidify my position to...

-...never play a Call of Duty 4.x title. Do I really want to propagate the continuing stagnation of the FPS genre? Because that's what I'd be doing if I bought any of those games.

-Competitive fighting games (or rather, playing any of them in vs). These quickly degenerate into unbreakable loop combos, turning the game into a series of evasion maneuvers until someone fucks up and they instantly lose.
Cool in principle, but really fucking boring in practice. I'm always down for Random and Exhibition novelty fights, where the characters used aren't Tier-1-Broken cheesefests, but really, I have no ambition to master a fighting game that will ultimately boil down to trying to put someone into the same combo loop every bloody match...

-God of War (or any combat game where QTEs are present)
This comes down to the QTE, which basically turns the game into Cutscene-Porn. Fine for the spectacle I guess, but I'm not all that interested in playing Simon Says so someone ELSE can enjoy the spectacle; gotta keep my eye on the birdie after all.

-"Final Fantasy" (anything)
It's just sad. That's all I can say for now.
Just...sad.

For whatever reason, explain why!

The only game I flat out refuse to play is Company of Heroes.

In my opinion, it's a crippled mess of an RTS. In any other RTS, you should be able to take early risks and scout your opponent to get some idea of what they might be planning. Not in this one! Company of Heroes is a guessing game. The game is decided in the first 5 minutes of play.

Here's a rundown of the average game:

You guess what your opponent might be planning based on the zero information available to you.

You wait 4 freaking years before you have enough supply to build a man with a pea shooter.

You inevitably have built a man with the wrong kind of pea shooter and he gets killed in two seconds flat.

You wait another 4 years to get enough supply to build a man with the right pea shooter.

Your opponent now controls the whole map and you have no supply.

Game over.

The whole game is a horrendous insult to the RTS genre. Imagine if in Starcraft or C&C you were only allowed to build 1 unit every 2 minutes regardless of how much supply you have. So if you make the wrong opening move you lose. No question. Then you have crap like units that resupply in the field meaning you build the squad once and from then on they are essentially invincible since they regenerate units. Is that how WW2 worked? Regenerating units??? I must have missed some important stuff in history class!

There's also the 100% historically accurate scenario where a squad of 3 men with a missile launcher can destroy a 20 ton tank in seconds flat while the tank fires fragmentation rounds from it's huge ass cannon at them, which explode at their feet and yet somehow cause no damage.

It's a monumental piece of crap, and I refuse to play it.

So what do you refuse to play, and why?

:3
You know, it's funny cause I'm really shit at RTS games but despite that I do enjoy playing them. I've played a fair number of them and I have to say I really like company of Heroes. I don't know about balance or strategy or whatever but I just thought it was really fun. But like I said, I don't know anything about these things.

This will sound a bit repetitive, but I refuse to play COD since MW2. The series is dead to me, at this point it is the exact same game with a different skin. I don't get the praise it gets, I don't get how people can be getting the same thing over and over again, I don't like overpriced maps. In short, I don't get why people likes it.

And yes I have tried it.

Any movie tie-in game. Almost all of them are cheaply made just to make an extra buck.

Sports games. If I wanted to go play basketball, I would do it. Not spend $60 on a virtual version of it.

Final Fantasy. The biggest oxymoron in gaming is something I don't play. I only have played X a few times and will give it an OK rating. Otherwise, I don't like the series.
I do believe I have met my internet twin. Either that or you can read minds. That's pretty much my list right here.

I refuse to play Uncharted. From the outside looking in that series has never been appealing to me despite my brother's best efforts. I'm not fond of that style of game to begin with and I don't want to waste time convincing myself I'll like it.

Sports games, I'd rather go out and play the sport myself. I also don't find racing games entertaining, if I ever get the random urge to race I'd play GTA races. There certainly are enough of them.

I also refuse to play MMORPG's, I like to pay for a game once and not feel obligated to play it because I pay a weekly subscription fee. I also think MMO's aren't immersive enough.

I don't "refuse" to play anything. What's the fucking point? I just won't play games I have no interest in, but I won't steadfast "refuse" to play anything.

I give every game a chance to impress me. I'm disinclined to trust Hideki Kamiya's work, however, after the godawful Bayonetta.

No manner of cosmical or divine influence could get me to even touch a Kingdom Hearts game.

I fucking hate Final Fantasy and I fucking hate Disney, the combination of the two can be nothing short of my Antichrist.

Also, what sort of fucking drugs were they on when they came up with that combination, because I'd like some.

And I would like to quote here: ''Too right. Now in the eyes of the world, they're the victims.''

Also, I refuse to play any form of mumorpeger, for the exact reason that Yathzee mentioned: ''It's all about the numbers''.

Shadow Complex, I just can't bring myself to spend any money on something with Orson Scott Card's involvement. Maybe I'd get a used copy, if it wasn't a digital only game...
What's wrong with Orson Scott Card? Ender's Game was amazing.
OT: There aren't really any games I absolutely refuse to play, but plenty that I can't get or am too terrible at to finish

The idea was actually concieved in an elevator.

OT: Sports games and driving simulators, they bore me to no end.

I boycott Gears of War. Aside from Nazis, I've killed more aliens than anything else, and I'm all set with playing as a grizzled space marine who trundles from chest high wall to chest high wall.

Very little diversity in game play annoys the shit out of me.

I'm probably going to boycott MW3 because I'm sick of the one style game play and the royal dicks in the online. BF seems better in the community, most people are either helpful or quiet and I feel like I can use some of my knowledge of tactics to help the team.

Sports games and most "horror" games that cripple the player.

Sports because, really, I find playing sports games as entertaining as watching sports games.. not very.

Games like Silent Hill and Amnesia basically make you incapable of defending yourself or seeing enemies coming, I hate that feeling of helplessness even though I recognise that it adds to the game.

Fine, fine, Im not going to start a war, it is your opinion, and I undertand COD and Dead Space (never played and Ico game so cant judge that).

OT: Japanese games, but mostly if they fall into cliches, I can play them but as soon as I see that the main character is a teen with spiked hair holding a huge sword I just say "Fuck you".

True, I sometimes try some F2P MMOs but after playing 20 minutes I just quit since there is no immersion to it, its just managing the cooldown times and see who has higher numbers.
