I tend to give a chance to every game I come across, but there is one abomination of a game that, even though I've never played it, the very pronunciation of it's name can send me in a murderous rage. That game is Castlevania: Judgment.
I've heard that the gameplay is bad, and I personally am not a fan o fighting games, but those are not the reasons of my hatred. It's the character design... the god damm freaking character design.
I mean... the generic anime style, the tasteless over-design, the obrigatory androgenous frail character and annoying child that loves candy... It's like a joke, a parody of generic anime cliches. It's disgusting.
And the fact that I loved Ayami Kojima's work on the Castlevania series didn't help at all.
So, yeah... feels good to take that out of my chest, haha.

Fighting games
Any JRPG that contains a story that is understandable only to the writers that penned it
Anmesia
MMO's (until Guild Wars 2 comes out)
Strategy games

This might set some people off: Mass Effect games

I played through the first one, at first I found it boring, but I stuck with it. It had started to suck me in a little, and I was just starting to really like it, when the game ended.
What ever happened to the days what RPGs were pretty much required to be massive? It's been ages, but if I remember rightly, Mass Effect took me about 5 hours to complete.

Not to draw issue with you but either you are exceptionally fast at gaming or you missed a lot of the side quests and objectives. You kind of have to go out looking for them or else you miss them. I made the same mistake when I first played it.

Sports games. It doesn't matter what sport; I will always refuse to play them because of the copy-paste style of them. Other than that I don't have any games I outright refuse to play.

I won't not play a game because it's from "that series" or "that publisher". If something seems fun, I'd be willing to give it a shot.

I don't boycott, I don't give that much of a shit to restrict myself from playing games I want to. Besides, it hardly matters if you boycott or not, and no, moral victories don't count.

CAll of Duty, Dead Space, Ico games and Psychonauts for their crap stories.

Anyways, I am serious about all of those and them having crap for stories.

Some other games I want to add to that list to include the following: Diablo series, Duke Nukem series, any sports games that don't involve nintendo or video game characters as a selling point and Gears of War series.

These games mostly for just being....well....BAD.

How can you talk about the story of games you refuse to play? You didn't play them right?

Modern Warfare 2. If I want to play a real shooter online on my 360, I'll play Halo: Reach, thank you very much [/Cinema Snob[sup]TM[/sup]]. At least Reach has co-op play, and even playing versus it isn't as filled with camping douchebags as Modern Warfare was.

Okay let me begin by saying I'm a game programmer and do actually like to point out why I don't like .

Nintendo-Mario, Sonic, and anything else that might come out of that industry is just outright garbage. They use kids and the whole idea of kid friendly games absolutely wrong, "If we keep making games, people will buy them despite being utter crap made by complete amateurs, and to add to it...LET'S END ALL SUPPORT FOR THEM, YEA!".

Seriously, I'm sorry but I hope the dies in a fire somehow, it is a great idea turned so horrible I can't even explain it because anything with a great idea that made on to this platform became rather garbage. Level design is terrible, and most games are labeled drinking games because they are so bad that either kids that do not understand 1+1, or those too intoxicated might enjoy from laughing at its stupidity.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed Mario when it first came out, it is true, however please let it stay that way for me, and don't milk the serious for money you don't need you greedy hog Nintendo.

You need to find a different career if you think Super Mario Galaxy is a bad game.

I quite honestly refuse to play any game that has a fan following that act like a bunch of self-righteous twats who know exactly one joke that they never shut the fuck up about, and also have a tendency to flip the fuck out upon the revelation that yes, some people have not played Portal in this strange world. Ick, please don't group us all together. I'm a huge fan of Portal, however I don't try and cram it down others throats if I can avoid it and I try and avoid the rest of the fandom like the plague.

OP: I avoid JRPGs for the most part, which is kind of odd, since I love them to pieces as a wee little lass. I guess by the time I hit 16, it occurred to me that Final Fantasy is rolling downhill at the speed of an unladen steam train.

I agree with the Company of Heroes comment in the OP. Although it's a good game, I hated the resource aspect of it. It would have been much better if it wasn't so hard to get resources.

Duke. Nukem. Forever. I had a tiny feeling that game was a bit overhyped, and once it was released, the reviews came in. It sucked. Miracle of Sound made a song of how much it sucked. It got an average score of 48 on metacritic. It had shit-throwing. Boob-slapping. The graphics looked terrible. I could go on, but I've never and never will play that game.

Halo. Tried the first one and HATED it. I can honestly say that it is the worst FPS ever made.
I outright refuse to touch the sequels, since it was so bad that there's no way it could be fixed. Ever.
Bungie wasted their talents for years. They should have made an Oni sequel.

You're kidding right? It was a pretty bland fps, but have you ever played Shell Shock 2? That, is a horrible FPS.

OT: Two Worlds. After the first 30 minutes, I just couldn't pass anything of that game up as "comedic" anymore. That dialogue, just.. so.. eardrum-grating.

Wiki the story, watch playthroughs on youtube, etc. There are various ways to find a story without actually playing.
