Fallout 3
Ah, ninja'd by the OP. How embarassing...

Yeah, I hated it at first. Mostly because I didn't understand what was going on or how I was supposed to do things.

I wandered around with a crippled head for about 2 hours because I didn't know how to use stimpacks. That annoyed the SHIT out of me, having my vision blur every 2 seconds.

Yes this is a twisted thread.

Scenario: You buy a game, play it but initially hate it. However, you try it again later at some point and you love it.

I have hated and later loved games only two in recent memory:

Mass Effect
Fallout 3
i can agree to both these. the first time i played mass effect i was so bored and was annoyed with the shitty inventory system, played it again and was amazed with it to the point i played it for one whole damn day straight.

ot: cod4,diablo II,halo CE, and probably Crackdown.

What is it that makes Mass Effect better the second time around? I hated the game the first time I played it but now it is easily one of my all time favorite games.

Sadly, Lost Odyssey has yet to leave a positive impression in...I believe eleven months, now.
Haha, same for me. I'm near the end of the third disc, I can't bring myself to play it either.

OT: Skate 2, played my brother's copy and thought it was shit, but after a little time with the controls, I really like it now.

Myst 3. It's not surprising, considering I first got it when I was about 6.

It's now in my top 5 games list.

Clie Barker's Jericho, The Darkness and Far Cry 2 are all games that I disliked upon first trying them, but ended up loving. Especially Far Cry 2. That game is criminally underrated.

I know exactly what you mean. bought it in 2008 and quit after the first level. Then a month ago I figured I would give it another shot and found out it was actually quite good.

For me there were two big factors why mass effect wound up this way. The first was the control system. When I first tried it, I sucked at third person shooters. While I still am not that great, I am now able to actually kill enemies rather than miss every shot. The second was my attitude, in that until a few months ago, whenever I played a game I would get distracted every time a new game came out, and not get back to any other games until several months has passed, by which time I had forgotten everything involving that game, and would have to start over from the beginning. Now I can force myself to actually finish games I play, rather than puttering around.

The only piece of media my opinion has ever positively changed aboot without it undergoing a dramatic change is King Of The Hill, because I was simply not mature enough to appreciate it when it first came out.
I have learned to hate games I liked when I first played them though. Pokeymanns is the best example of such.

Time Splitters 2, jumped for the Arcade and was like WTF!? (I was too young to understand), waited a year, picked it up again and loved it. One of my favourite games ever.

The first game that I tried on my new Xbox too, I had TS2, Halo CE, Burnout, and Splinter Cell. Loved them all except TS2 lol

Empire: Total War. That game took a serious time commitment to learn how to play, but now I still enjoy playing it despite the inconsistent AI or the siege combat marred by frame rate issues.

I didn't like Dragon Age: Origins at first, but now I love it.

There's certainly more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Definitely Fallout 3, I hated it for ages. I tried on two seperate occasions to play it, weeks apart, putting in a couple of hours each time. I just couldn't figure out what the hell was going on, what I was supposed to do, etc. I blamed the game, and deeply regretted buying it. Then, one day months later I saw it sitting there on my shelf and I thought; I payed damn good money for that, and I suppose if nothing else, there's achievements to be had. So I popped it into the drive that third time, and the next thing I knew, the time was 2am. After that, I didn't play any other game for ages. Today it and all five DLCs sit on my 360's hard drive, having contributed its full 1,550 gamerscore to my total. Roll on New Vegas.

This happened with Mass Effect for me as well. I do know the reason why, though. The first time I played, I rolled an Infiltrator. Being a sniper-specialist, I tried sniping everything, but the gun wobbled so much that combat quickly became infuriating and I stopped playing. When I gave it another go, I chose Soldier and loved the game from then on.

Funnily enough, I hated SotC the first time I played it. Hated the horse, frustrating gameplay, clumsy controls...did I mention I loathed the horse? But yeah, it's one of my all-time favorites now. Would love to try the rumored HD upgrade version.

For me, it would have been Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX).

I think I played it for a couple hours when I first got it, then shelved it, slightly intimidated and disappointed.

Like 6 months and a strategy guide later, I pulled it back out. And barely slept for next several months thereafter. It became my obsession to do/see/kill/find EVERYTHING in that game. And, despite the fact that I no longer have a PS1/2, that game still sits on my shelf...

Go figure?

Grand Theft Auto. I saw no point at first, and now I love the game because I like to beat in peoples' faces. Whoo blood and gore!
