MGS (whole series). Everyone seems to love it but I don't. I've considered giving it another shot now that I have aged more but meh.

Dwarf Fortress

I really tried. REALLY! But when I lost track of my little guys three minutes into the game, I gave up.
Get the Lazy Newb Pack from the Dwarf Fortress website and watch http://www.youtube.com/51ppycup#p/c/C1944506E041FE6E/0/klXolslGsk4 [51ppycup's Dwarf Fortress tutorial]. If you have the time, I demand that you do this. You won't regret it.

The Lazy Newb Pack comes with a few extra gadgets that will help you manage your dwarfs efficiently and comes with a couple graphics packs to make the game easier to look at. It doesn't change the actual difficulty of the game.

EDIT: OT: Any sports game. The games themselves are good and do bring extra features and better AI with each addition, however I simply have no interest in them. Because I haven't put much time into playing them and don't have a natural affinity for them, I'm mediocre when it comes to playing too. I just don't have an interest in playing them.

I do, however, respect the games and the people who spend their time going through the players and leagues to be the best. It's very impressive.

definitely WoW and almost any MMO. I love the concept, I tried it, but just not my cup of tea. I love my RPG games because of the single player campaign.

Dwarf fortress. Tried it twice now but I just can't get into it. I've tried graphics packs, but it's such a steep learning curve and these days my attention span is short enough as it is so I just can't be bothered.

One day though, one day.

Also Minecraft. I just don't have the creativity to do anything with it. I tried it once, built an ugly looking house and thought 'meh, cba' and just never went back. However I do like looking at what they are bringing in in the future and looking at others peoples creations.

EYE cybermancy. It looks good, it looks fun, but damn if I can't learn how to play it. I am not watching all those tuts.

EDIT: Oh yeah and MGS, I should watch a playthrough. I just suck at stealth :p

I have to agree with the OP on Mass Effect. I've tried playing it, and enjoyed sections, but the combat is clunky, the checkpoints are poorly spaced (for example, putting a long cutscene with dialogue choices right before a semi-hard fight with no cover and no chance to save). I really tried to like it, and I respect that it has a good story, but I just can't get into it.

A lot of PC games I'd love to play but simply don't have a gameable PC at the moment. Amnesia, The Witcher, Civ 5, Starcraft 2.

Also a slew of Bioware games that I can't play due to them being on the PC. Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment.

Then there is fighting games, and my only excuse is that I really suck at them. I used to play a lot of MvC 2 and Soul Calibur during the Dreamcast era but lately I haven't really bothered with the genre.

Dwarf Fortress

I like the idea, I think it's cool and I can see why those who play it love it.

However, I took one look at the interface and ran for the hills. Besides, I'm not into ASCII graphics. I need my pictures.

Still think it's a neat game though.

Starcraft 2. I can't play it for the life of me, but the pro players must be amazing multi taskers.
Yep this. My friends played this at school, I just couldn't get into it. I'm not a huge fan of RTS games. But watching them play each other was hilarious.
Also Amnesia. I appreciate how great the game is but even watching someone play it scares the crap out of me. So I can't play it.

WoW and most of the RTS games out there.
Even when I play Total War, I only touch the grand campaign.
That's why I turned to Paradox Interactive, and they deliver.

Pick an FPS that sold well in the past decade and lots of people played. Pretty much any game you think of fits here.

Gears of War, they have really great graphics, good gameplay and co-op, and a solid story based on what I've seen. But, I just don't have the appetite for the gore, the constant hiding behind the walls, the overly masculine characters, and there's a bit of the expanded universe that I've seen that just makes me rage. I'm not saying that those qualities are bad (except for that last bit), it's just I don't care for it.

Any game with online shooting matches a la Halo and Call of Duty really. I can always ignore the jerks that populate Xbox Live, but I can't get interested and I know that I'll suck so much I'd probably be the person that causes everyone to lose the match.

Minecraft and World of Warcraft.

Technically, I used to play World of Warcraft, but I stay far away from it now. Not because it's bad, but because I know that it'll become a problem for me. Hey, at the very least I recognize it as a future problem if I ever do go back - and thus know to stay away.

Minecraft is amazing. You can do so very much with it. Hell, I'd hazard a guess that you can do ANYTHING with it. While I could never do that, and if I could I would get addicted, I certainly respect those that do.

Fighting games.

I'm like a lot of fighting game haters, and Super Smash Bros is the only one I enjoy. I respect the fighting games that are out there, though. I love how well-animated the characters are and how subtle the tactics can get. I just don't like that ultra-competitive 1-v-1 gameplay.

But damn if some of the coolest games ever aren't fighting games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSlnZxvi37s

WoW. I hate it and the wave of fanboys and assholes it spawned. But I know that it is a good game.

BRINK. I played the free weekend and really enjoyed it, but can't justify 40 bucks on it so I never bought it.
But it was 50% off during the free weekend. Why didn't you take the chance?
