Beyond two souls. I was never that interested in it since i didn't own a ps4 and i've watched Jim Sterling shit on it for years, but then a sale came along and i got it in a bundle with heavy rain for 13 bucks. I enjoyed it more than i expected, a lot of things didn't make sense, but after suffering through heavy rain this one was like a masterpiece in comparison.

Interesting. Hopefully it's on sale again soon as I'd like to check it out. Only played the demo on PS3.

Mirrors Edge (the first one, I haven't played the second one yet because...well...I've heard it's bad so that's another that might end up here eventually):

I had wanted to play Mirrors Edge just because it was such a unique concept that I felt like I had to get it. The reviews were quite rough to it so I held off buying it. While the game isn't 10/10 GotY material, I really enjoyed Mirrors Edge and probably would have been fine paying $60 for it rather than waiting.
Mirrors Edge Catalyst I would say fits here too. The man complaint I heard was the open world and exp systems. But having played it myself, it feels more like a modern take on the 3d platformers of old. Your exp skills are like the upgrades in abilities and movement you used to get. At at the moment the collectibles don't feel to overdone. Its like finding pieces of what ever in a platformer.
Speak of the devil, Mirrors Edge Catalyst is $6.60 this week on Xbox Live.

If that's not fate, I don't know what is...

Castlevania: Dracula X. I heard everyone claiming that it was a bad game, a botched port of Rondo of Blood. Turns out that I enjoyed immensely, even moreso than Super Castlevania IV.

Mega Man 8 kind of falls into that category as well. I avoided it on the basis that someone said it was on about the same level as Mega Man 5 (completely forgettable). I actually really enjoyed MM8 when I got around to playing it, I dare say it's one of the best classic Mega Man games.

To people mentioning MEA. Did you mean general 'meatacritic' disdain about the title, cordial 'professional' reviews (instead of usual 'ZOMG haZ to buy it NAOW or EbUL!') or reviews like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4IxRWbHARs
has both in-depth deconstruction of game elements as well as sjw/anti-sjw rubs and jabs at AJA's and TB's reviews (so it's a mixed plate but works as critique = allows to get a really good grip on a game and its actual value and quality).

And again to the OP I thought of another title. DeusEx: Invisible war. I actually enjoyed the game that is and were deemed awful. Though I admit and can see it is inferior to DeusEx in every facet, it didn't matter.

Think nowadays what gets my goat is additional BS that corporations try to push beside game being worse to one it tries to mimic. That being broken state of the game at launch ( NO fking FREE demos that would actually showcase strong points of gameplay and help to iron out bugs. Instead we get dumb marketing campaigns in social media for drone-trained morons), plus additional, irrational expenses (DLCs, microtransactions, sudo-expansions). If your game is bad-quality and on launch it garnered poor reception by customers at least have decency to scrape off all that greedy shit from your half-assed product.
One of the reasons I have a list of devs / publishers that by default I am set to not consider purchase from (due to giving them crap ton of money and being shat on with poor quality of product and service) is to spare myself further disapointments. That translates to additional scrutiny when researching the game and if ANY doubt - nope, no purchase - there are plenty better options to spend money and time.

After blunders of DA series (streamlining pretty much everything to bland&dumb levels, constant wallet diving, tokenism, cookie cutter quests and characters and finally degenerating to mmorpg like gameplay), mishandled DLCs in 2nd ME (plus dumb, arcade style 'final boss fight' but that just personal gripe) and piss poor conclusion of series in 3rd ME, atrocious garbage called TOR instead of actual KotOR games, Bioware finally joined the list (regardles of which studio is involved but lets be honest, none of them has the people which actually were making good games in the past - they left).

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen: The reviews I saw said it was boring and frustrated, but now, years later, I am playing it and finding it to be an excellent game that really makes you feel like a vicious vampire.

Realms of Arkania series: The reviews said it was overcomplicated and frustrating, but I like challenging games so when I saw it on GOG I got it. I have yet to play it.

Necrovision: Most of the reviews said it was horrible, except for the one contrarian: I.G.N. I saw it on sale cheap, and I decided to try it. Say what you will about I.G.N, but it was right: It was a very fun and exciting game and I was lucky to take a chance.

Cursed Mountain and Deadly Creatures: Games that also got very mixed reviews, but when I finally got them, I was quite happy. They had unique styles and settings and fun gameplay despite their flaws, and I recommend them for anyone who wants to try unusual games.

One game I wish I had never tried: Ultima 8. All the reviews said it one of the worst and stupidest games ever made, and they were being charitable, but I got it with a video card. Spoony's review and this thread *https://www.gog.com/forum/ultima_series/all_the_awfulness_in_ultima_8* cover it.

Popular opinion is turning against Sierra and Nintendo games, but I still love them for being consistently fun and creative.

Mass Effect 3. Self explanatory.

I finally got around to it a month ago and really enjoyed it. Just goes to show buying a game on launch is a bad idea.
I think it also comes down to bang for your buck. I got Watch Dogs for $5 and thought the game was fantastic but I do recognise that paying $60 would be too much. Paying $10 or 20 for ME3 would definitely be worth it IMO, even considering its issues

Bear, you are talking about the glitch, right?
I played the game "Song of the Deep" myself.....and I encountered......
Needless to say how piss off I was when it DESTROYED my game....

Anyway, The games I didn't played cause of sh*tstorms, was Mass Effect 2 and 3. Blah, Blah, Blah, Ending suck, Blah, Blah, Blah, you know.
Also the most recent is "STRAFE"...so disappointed. The funny thing is I played the Demo and I liked just because it was one level.

You spelt "whether" wrong.

You say, "Not really" and then go on to state the very reason as to why someone would say, "Self explanatory" when referring to Mass Effect 3.

Anyway, I'd say Battlefield 4. Got a lot of flak, but it's an amazing game. Also, I've heard people complain about the graphics... really? Even by today's standards, they're fine.

Have the people who say "self-explanatory" explain themselves then. Because there is more than one major complain about Mass Effect 3 that may kept them away from the game, it's not self-explanatory.

It is. If you want the specific reason(s), fair enough; however, it's still self-explanatory (I'm referring obviously to the controversy surrounding the game).
