Red Dead Redemption.
I love games set in the old west (well, except for the first Call of Juarez). RDR seemed like a mash-up of every awesome feature those kind of games had and then some.
Then I actually played it...
The controls were stiff, the missions were repeditive, the side jobs were boring, and the whole game was just too easy.
While the story was kinda good, the plot almost ruined it. At first, the stroy set up everything quite well...but then nothing happened after the first five or so hours of gameplay (this was time mostly spent on story missions mind you). Instead of moving the plot forward, the game just threw delay after delay and plot device after plot device as to why you can't just move on.
I don't know why I had to do all of these ridiculous missions and tasks just to kill one guy. I've spent all this time barging into other gang hideouts blasting everybody to hell all by myself, why can't I just go to Fort Mercer and just do more of that? But no, I have to befriend and run tasks for a run of the mill sheriff with two bumbling deputees, a slimey salesman, a stereotypical drunk, and an insane grave robber so I can put together a gatlin gun. Only then can I storm the fort and kill the guy I'm after.
...seriously?
So after wasteing hours upon hours of bizarre task after bizarre task, only to have the guy I'm tracking down escape and the game tell me "Better luck next fifteen hours of gameplay!", you could only imagine how pissed off that made me.
EDIT: Also, the title doesn't make a lick of sence!
Okay sure, you can say it's an extension to the franchise, but Red Dead Revolver had at least some point to it. The game is about a guy named Red who makes a living by making other people Dead by shooting them with a Revolver. The title neatly incapsualted the three most important aspects of the game.
So with in mind, why is it called Red Dead Redemption?
The game is about a guy named John Marston who goes around making people Dead so he can find Redemption.
Huh.
Maybe if Red was the main character, it would've made more sen...but he was a good guy who killed evil dooers...maybe later in his life he became a bad guy so now he's seeking redemption for what he...oh fuck it.
Red Dead Redemtion:
More proof that Rockstar has lost it's touch.
