I remember back in '08 I was really hyped up for Too Human thinking it would be the most badass game ever made, being that it was mixed sci-fi with Norse mythology I thought I was gonna be playing it for months to come but when it came out I was so disapointed. The game play was so repetitive and the controls were so awful that I only played it for a week before putting down.

Has anyone else had a similar experience before?

I was all psyched for Fallout 3. Like, reserved the limited edition with the lunchbox and bobblehead psyched. Then I leveled up and saw they got rid of my beloved Elder Scrolls leveling system...for some generic, boring skill-points and "experience".

WHY DID NONE OF THE PREVIEWS I SAW MENTION THAT?!

Black and White. It was supposed to be god game, RPG, RTS and civ game all rolled into one. It was actually a 50 foot cow/monkey avatar flinging its turds at villagers. No matter what you did. See also: Anything Peter Molyneux has done since then, especially the first Fable.

TimeShift for me. What's worse is I had the game for close to two years before I had a PC that could run it. Finally I was able to play it and... wow, it was a letdown. I played through it to the end, all the way hoping it would get better, and it didn't.

Delayed disappointment. That's sad.

I whanna add about what I said in Too Human, I don't like bashing the game simply because I still really like the concept and in no way did I feel the theme/story was lacking

Id have to say Darksiders for me. The game had so much potential like a zelda game but with more action but then it became like a zelda game but with an inversed difficulty curve (seriously the first boss was the hardest part of the game)and a lot more crashes. I crashed 4 times within the first 2-3 dungeons it was really annoying. If I would dash past a autosave point because War moves insanely slow it would get stuck in an infinite save cycle.

Also while writing I remembered an even worse offender, Brutal Legend. It takes some serious effort to screw up a game based around heavy metal music. The game's worst offense was never telling you about important things and assumes you can figure out this stuff on your own (like what does a motor forge look like, the big bad guy saying he was leaving actually means to get in your car and drive into his main fortress, little flowers means your supposed to play a specific song in that area, the first boss is beaten by doing your earth shaker attack when rocks are overhead, and theres more than this sadly). They also cut out a huge part of what should be the story and end the game very abruptly. why was there any RTS at all when there was none in the demo? What a disaster of a game

Red Dead Redemption.

I love games set in the old west (well, except for the first Call of Juarez). RDR seemed like a mash-up of every awesome feature those kind of games had and then some.

Then I actually played it...

The controls were stiff, the missions were repeditive, the side jobs were boring, and the whole game was just too easy.

While the story was kinda good, the plot almost ruined it. At first, the stroy set up everything quite well...but then nothing happened after the first five or so hours of gameplay (this was time mostly spent on story missions mind you). Instead of moving the plot forward, the game just threw delay after delay and plot device after plot device as to why you can't just move on.

I don't know why I had to do all of these ridiculous missions and tasks just to kill one guy. I've spent all this time barging into other gang hideouts blasting everybody to hell all by myself, why can't I just go to Fort Mercer and just do more of that? But no, I have to befriend and run tasks for a run of the mill sheriff with two bumbling deputees, a slimey salesman, a stereotypical drunk, and an insane grave robber so I can put together a gatlin gun. Only then can I storm the fort and kill the guy I'm after.

...seriously?

So after wasteing hours upon hours of bizarre task after bizarre task, only to have the guy I'm tracking down escape and the game tell me "Better luck next fifteen hours of gameplay!", you could only imagine how pissed off that made me.

EDIT: Also, the title doesn't make a lick of sence!

Okay sure, you can say it's an extension to the franchise, but Red Dead Revolver had at least some point to it. The game is about a guy named Red who makes a living by making other people Dead by shooting them with a Revolver. The title neatly incapsualted the three most important aspects of the game.

So with in mind, why is it called Red Dead Redemption?

The game is about a guy named John Marston who goes around making people Dead so he can find Redemption.

Huh.

Maybe if Red was the main character, it would've made more sen...but he was a good guy who killed evil dooers...maybe later in his life he became a bad guy so now he's seeking redemption for what he...oh fuck it.

Red Dead Redemtion:
More proof that Rockstar has lost it's touch.

Infamous, Prototype, Final Fantasy XIII, Heavy Rain...those are the more recent ones. I can't think of any others at the moment but they all disappointed me.

I thought I'd like Blue Dragon because I love JRPG's.

However, you know a game's gone wrong when one of the achievements is "Defeat King Poo".

Thbound snakes that you have to play the earth shacker to free, I was in the last leg of the game and JUST noticed it because I happened to use the move close to the statue.

I didn't visit a motor forge for a long time because I thought it was a small shop in Bladehenge. The map's terain goes from flat to moutainous in seconds, so you don't want to go careening off a cliff and die, and so you tend to tread carefully... Well guess where the motor forges are hidden.

They tell you to look for the red flowers to find a motor forge, but the "motor" sticks abotu 12 feet out of the ground and the flowers around it only extend a few feet... By that time, you're like "Obvious Motor Forge is Obvious"

Red Faction Guerilla was a disappointment for me.
I was expecting far more buildings, but the surface of Mars proved to be a barren and isolated place.

Brutal Legend, ranks high for sure.
KoToR II. That had to do with the main character mostly.
Also, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, which made sure to advertise every conceivable character, but only a dozen or so fighting styles.

I also remember in days long ago when little Melancholy Ocelot was disappointed in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for the SNES. When I saved my pennies and purchased it I was expecting an arcade style beat-um-up like Power Rangers the Movie for SNES with a vertical plain, but instead it was straight 2D.

God of War. From what I've played, it just doesn't interest me all that much.

GTA4
They literally took EVERYTHING out of the game that I liked about it.
At least the Lost&Damned expansion is playable because they reintroduced gang wars and give you rewards for completing them.
