Oblivion as well. I played it well well well after it came out. I bought the PC version first, but didnt have the hardware to run it. so i sat in impotent rage for like a year before I saw my friend playing it on his 360. He said it was awesome, further hooking me in, HE looked like he was having a blast. Then I finally got a 360, bought the console version and plugged it in... and played it for about an hour before I realized I hated it. As soon as I got all the acheievments I never played it again.

Also MAG. I was so looking forward to the MASSIVE 256 player games. that sounds so AMAZING. having your squadron defend a building while another squadron sweeps the plains for stragglers. Sounded boner-ific. Until I played and realized that anything but sniper was dogshit, and that the land was filled with lone wolves who would never consider following the orders of their leiutenant when they can go and stop the war ALL by themselves. Combine that with there never being enough people online to ever START a 256 match, and all the maps... whoops I mean the 3 maps all being very lazily made and hidding the fact that they are all of them shitty corpse making wall-less corridors. I was so disillusioned.

Infamous. I loved the concept but I couldn't stand the actual game. It wasn't bad I just didn't like it. When I realized I'd have to go sewer diving for every power, for every island, that was the straw which broke the camel's back.

Prototype was also a great source of disappointment.

I really wanted to like Alien vs Predator [2010 I think...2009?] but it was just...bad. The human campaign was too dark to see anything. The alien campaign was stupid-hard to control. The Predator campaign was very frustrating. Even while invisible, out of the line of the human's sight, they instantly knew where I was AS I WAS AIMING THE PLASMA CASTER AT THEM. Not after firing the first shot as is the norm but, while I was aiming at them and invisible.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Long, long cutscenes supplemented with gameplay that is as stealthy as Cobra Commander's screech of "FOOLS!"

Final Fantasy XIII: Much longer cutscenes, draconian level limits for the first 10 chapters of the 'game' and, a setting that forgot about the word 'Fantasy' in it's game's title. As stated in a previous thread though, it wouldn't have made sense to call this game Final Sci-Fi XIII.

The one I haven't seen mentioned is Halo 3. I bought it for the single player and was bitterly dissapointed. The multiplayer made up for it sure but still.

Unreal Tournament 3 single player sucked and was too laggy on multiplayer for me.

Street Fighter IV - too fiddly and difficult.

Ninja Gaiden 2 - Beating the first felt like a real achievement. This one was way too over the top and easy and cheap.

Far Cry 2 - Wouldn't mind being able to travel 5 metres without being shot or having my gun jam.

Bioshock 2 - I loved the original but the sequel wasn't well designed, didn't add much in the way of gameplay elements and the underlying ideology was childish. They just reversed all the values of the original but did it superficially.

And I am going to add Starcraft 2 as a finale. I don't hate it per se but I was pretty dissapointed after waiting 12 years for it. Skirmish is a lot of fun but the story is dodgy, the characters stilted and slightly bi-polar (at least it seemed so to me), and the ending was totallt anti-climactic. The original was a wild roller coaster of excitement where you felt like every action had a real influence on the overall conflict. I dunno what I was doing in SC2. It all felt pretty pointless.

Bioshock. Im going to get stabbed for that, but its true for me. The story, the setting, the acting, music, and graphics were all remarkable. It was truly the most well presented game i can recall. But the gameplay was just so...crap. The shooting was abysmal, most of the plasmids felt pretty useless, and the level design was really confusing. Not saying they didnt look good, but it felt like it was all just one giant maze, and i played through the game, i think...3 times? I could never get used to the levels.

Long story short, everything about the game was great, except for the gameplay, which, for me, is where a game matters most, and it just didnt do it for me.

Ah yes, I forgot to name Bioshock as well, I can see that it's fantastic but I hated every minute of it, I'm gonna try playing it again these days and see if my opinion has changed...

Whilst I don't hate it, I thought I'd really dig bioshock 1, turns out I got bored of it and never finished it. Oddly, I have the exact opposite viewpoint of bioshock 2, which is one of the best games I've ever had the fortune to play.

Prototype, Killzone 2, and Guild Wars.
You didn't like Kilzone 2? o_O
Not at all. It just seemed like cod4 with worse graphics (lolwut?), less movement fluidity (well trying to run with heavy armour and packs is hard), and less variety in weapons/boosters (True hopefully they will change that in KZ3). The worst part was the weight of everything in the game (I found it a refreshing change from MW2 where everyone is as precise as Solid Snake). It was as though every gun was a 300 pound club that had to be swung around to aim at something.

I was really psyched for it too. Definitely won't be getting Killzone 3.
I don't know about you but

looks much better than

Sorry, I'll reiterate what I meant. Yes, the picture quality in KZ2 is superior to the picture quality of cod4. The animations, guns, and effects I found to be considerably worse. It's definitely a different kind of game than COD and it just doesn't appeal to me.

That being said, I'll play it over MW2 any day. COD4 was the peak of the franchise and WaW was pretty good as well, balance issues aside, but that's a different topic altogether.

Bioshock: story was great and it was very intense (atmosphere wise), but the gameplay didn't work for me. Splicers took too many strikes to kill which doesn't make it hard, it makes it tedious. (large health quantity is good on more uncommon enemies or mini bosses, not enemies you see every 5 minutes.) The respawn system made things too easy and plasmids were either very ineffective or completely roke the game.

MGS4. Its shooting mechanics are good enough, but I absolutely hate dealing with snake's stress meter. It refills so slowly that it makes me want to tear my eyes out.
But the thing that really drove me away from the game is the story. It's just so ridiculous. A cyborg ninja? A kung-fu vampire? There were at least 3 major plot points that would have turned out better if certain people had just pulled the trigger instead of listening to some speech, or hadn't waited for 20 seconds before doing so.

Prototype was crap.

Great idea, but they completely failed in realising it. It doesn't help that the story makes no sense and the protagonist's just a wanker. I can like heroes, and I can like anti-heroes. I cannot like wankers.
Dude...You can kill people free-roaming and throwing them off buildings WHILE sliding them, throwing them again then smashing them into the ground...AND MAKE SPIKES OF DOOM APPEAR IN A GIANT CIRCLE OF DEATH IN THE LAST MOMENT!

What else do you want?!?! T__________T!
...and jumpkick helicopters

Sonic on the 360, the graphics in the trailer looked unbelievable, it was until after that very first cutscene, I knew it would bomb. Thats when I realized how evil sonic team has been to my childhood icon......*Sigh*
(I hadn't played a sonic game since Adventure's on the Dreamcast)

Mine would definitely be Mercenaries 2. I loved the first one so much, and heard so many great things about the second... and then hated it after the first five or ten minutes.

That's it.

The game was my Richard Nixon. It completely shattered any hope I had of buying a game without waiting long after it was released :/.

World of Warcraft

I was already kind of burned out on MMOs after playing EVE Online on-and-off for about a year or so. That and WoW is so insanely complex and requires such a huge time commitment that I'd rather just not bother. That and the art design wasn't really my thing.

For reference, I prefer Aion's and Lineage II's art styles to WoW's.

Surprised no-one's bought up Borderlands. The multiplayer was crap, and that was the main selling point.

Certainly GTA IV, Bioshock & Valkyria Chronicles. Soul Calibur IV was a big disappointment too.

Also a few oldies I'd like give a dishonorable mention: Medieval II, Half-Life 2 & Master of Orion III. Especially because HL1 and MOO2 were all-time classics - Arrgh!
