Any Fire Emblem game. It gets tough and you have to be really careful with your decisions. Then you make one fairly innocent move, and a newly gotten, low level character gets slaughtered. So then you play it again from the checkpoint, which was like 20 minutes ago, and again, someone eats it. So you finally live with the fact that you'll lose at least one character, so you suck it up and play until you win, but then two characters die. Now you've lost a healer and a fairly solid axe man, so you're basically f-d the rest of the increasingly difficult campaign. That and the storylines are almost always generic and boring, so you end up not caring that much that you gave up.
I know exactly what you mean. Repeat 10 times, fine trial and error, repeat 30+ times and my hands are gripping the controller a little too hard. I usually enjoy the story though... except Radiant Dawn for the Wii

Demon's Souls. Got to a certain point where the difficulty level just got to me. At first it was a lot of fun, but after a while I had to move on.

I really should finish Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, but it just annoys me now. AC1 was cool and interesting and I pretty much loved it. AC2 was a great improvement but the ending seriously annoyed me. And AC Brotherhood was just a fancier AC2. It even has the same main character.

Baldur's Gate: Throne of Bhaal. I really loved BG2, but there's this huge multi-floor dungeon in ToB that just wore me out.

Kingdom Hearts. Unlike in most games, in KH I really only played for the cutscenes, since the gameplay was pretty lackluster, but there was too much gameplay between cutscenes

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for the Gamecube... its not that i cant, mind you, nor that its too boring (FAR from it), or that everyone in my little army is under-leveled or poorly equipped at that point- i did everything right to get Ena, i have Marcia, Mia, Lucia, Astrid, Lethe, Ilyana, Ena- everyone i truly love on the game leveled, stat boosted, and weapon- equipped to where any foe is practically guaranteed to do if they so much as poke them with a feather. i just.... to be honest.. i got all that way... and i just dont seem to Want to do it.. i dont get it.. meh...

And then of course the whole accuracy thing with little room for error, as in running over the Hunters with the car, which was like steering a surfing elephant with 1 leg. And then throwing the Magnusson Device (WHY NO ROCKETS?). I tried it 3 times, failed, and that was years ago. Probably won't try it again.
Really now? Once I realized that you could just run the hunters over I finished it with no trouble.

Morrowind. For some reason all I did was explore. Never could stick to the quests.
Same here. I love exploring, but I've never managed to get very far in the story or any of the guilds.

Red Dead Redemption: Ending was spoiled and now I just can't go through with. Plus you know those fucking side quests just piss me off, gambling in particular (FUCK LIAR'S DICE!)
But Liar's Dice is by far the easiest minigame! Fuck 5 finger fillet, I say (and playing poker without cheating.)

Pathologic. That game breaks people.
I'm interested now. Elaborate, if you'd be so kind.

MS Saga: A New Dawn. Oh that last boss and his Final Fantasy-esque 1-shot ability that explodes a large chunk of the moon.

The title sums it up, really. Has the ever been a game that you liked but you couldn't and likely will never finish, do to whatever circumstances?
Vagrant Story

I got stuck on the Final Boss Fight, Final Form. I can get half way through it's HP at which point it pulls a giant dick move that requires a specific technique to survive.

... a technique I passed up learning in the first (or second?) dungeon. Because I didn't read the strategy guide and it didn't sound very useful at the time.

I've tried replaying the game since, but it was an act of attrition, obsession, and madness to reach the end the first time. Going in now, I get my ass spanked by the first Minotaur boss so hard it leaves red marks. And, before I can practice up enough to beat him, I wander off to another game.

Which is really too bad, because that game kicked ass. Tough though.

I've got it downloaded on my PS3. I've been meaning to play it more, but I can't really get into it. The combat just doesn't really do it for me, and it seems like at least half the game is made up of cutscenes. I may take another whack at it, but not in the foreseeable future.

Evolution: The world of sacred device.

I've gotten up to the second to last boss. And it turns out that he's a complete bastard that doesn't adhere to the rules of turn-based fighting.

And when his attacks destroy a player per turn....you know I;m just completely screwed.

When I feel like hurting myself, I might play it again.

persona 3

loved the game but stopped playing it for too long (college finals will do that) to remember what the hell I was doing. I got far enough where the thought of restarting makes me cry.
Good game otherwise, from what I can remember.
This one. Got all the way to the final boss and got to within a hairs breath of beating him when he stomped me flat... TWICE. It didn't help that the battle took well over half an hour by itself, possibly longer. Gave up after my third attempt where I didn't even get close to beating him. I'd like to go back a try again, but it's been quite awhile since I've played it that I'd be kinda rusty.

And speaking of getting whithin a hair's breath of beating the final boss, another on my list would be Dark Cloud 2 (or Dark Chronicle depending on where you live). I was one hit away from beating the final boss, unfortunately he was also one hit away from beating me and it came down to reaction time. He managed to hit me just milliseconds before I was able to hit the button to open my inventory and heal myself and secure my victory. And since it was such an incredible journey from the last save point to the final battle, I never attempted it again. Also I never actually owned a copy of the game, I had only rented and for some reason I never got around to renting it again after that.
