Hmmm, Rune, Oni, Hitman (I can totally imagine that while you make problems for the guards, or talk to them, your colleague passes that guard post unnoticed... yeah, that would be badass >:D )

Indeed, the STALKER series would be great with co-op.

Hmm, I suppose Armored Core and maybe Front Mission?
I recall Armored Core For Answer having co-op. Very few missions need it, and even then, with the proper build and decent evasive skill, one can do it alone and get the highest rank.

GTA IV should have, because it was hilarious fun in San Andreas.
Good, I'm not the only one who misses that.
I thought Dragon Age seemed like it was supposed to have some sort of coop element to it.

My favorite co op games this gen were probably Borderlands & Saints Row 2 but Portal 2 is sneaking up on them, I'll let you know when I'm done.

Team Fortress and L4D(2) LOCAL Multiplayer. Why can't I split screen VALVe? Doing so would be absolutely awesome. Also, I wish Bioshock had co-op too.
I'm not sure what platform you're talking about but L4D 2 has splitscreen online on the xbox, I play it all the time :)

Resident Evil 4. They put it in for 5, and I really enjoyed playing with my friends and really wish 4 had it. Would have made dealing with Ashley mush easier if she had an Assault Rifle and wasn't completely useless.

I wouldn't mind having co-op in ME either though not multiple Shepards.

i would work it like this (click spoiler for long answer).

the MP would be dedicated servers (similar to Gears of war's layout for public games) you'd choose MP and then it asks you if you want to start a new game (and thus create a new shepard) or load a game. at this point you make your Shep and then enter the lobby screen, up to two people can join up, and when you've got your team you start the game.

Host will always be shepard while the other two can choose which crew member they want to take whenever shepard leaves the Normandy (while in the Normandy the other two player see what the hosts sees). and in conversations the host can either set the lobby to either "host makes choices" where host makes all the choices or "choice voting" where each player can vote on an option (result of a tie goes with a random player).

for the single character parts of the game depending on the length of the section it will either be like inside the normandy for the other players in the short sections while the long sections would be replaced with some extra cutscenes to explain how the players got from A to C without playing B.

for example in the begining of ME2 the players will play the destruction of the Normandy but will skip the tutorial section of the medical lab attack (part before joining Jacob) where player 2 will join in and then player three when they meet that guy they save (the miranda stand in).

Short Answer: Co-op only, no competitive.

Dragon Age
I would love to play a mage in a 4 man party exploring the deep roads. The only problem that I could see with this would be the fact that one person would take all the decisions, but I guess there could be a vote system put into place.
I know the graphics are outdated, but Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 could have LAN multiplayer.
Seeing as any old laptop could play them these days, I'd recommend that to you :)
Up to six players then as well.
Might give you the experience your looking for ^_^

Torchlight, anyone?
Yeah, Torchlight!
Though the sequel will thankfully rectify that misstep.

And the original Painkiller SCREAMED for co-op play. Would have been amazing.

You know, thats not the first time someone recommended me that game but I tried to get in to it and it was just too hard. I know its suppossed to be a lot like Dragon Age but I have only been gaming for the last 7 years and games have changed a lot since 1998 (when Bauldurs gate was released). If someone would teach me I would happily try it again but I know nobody in real life who plays RPG's.

Ahh, I understand. I gave up with it when I first played it as well.
I could only make sense of it after I learned the rules for D&D a few years later.
It's a good game, but its not friendly to new players.

To all the people who would like to see co op in STALKER (I am one, dont worry):

Do NOT bring it up on the STALKER GSC game world forums. Too many people have suggested it, and the board isnt actually watched by them. Also, we/they (havent been on in a while) will say that its impossible due to the engine limitations... blah blah blah.

I would probably cast a vote for any RPG which is concidered mainstream or worthy to be put up on a wall. But having a bunch of people wise crack about the current plot and how people seem to bump into each other would ruin the story and total immersion

As some people have mentioned, Bulletstorm. The mechanics for Co-op play are there in the game for the Horde mode and as far as I remember you always have one person with you at least, it would maybe need altering in some way so that the second player could see what Ishi or Trishka are doing but I think it would work well.

Can't think of any other specific titles at the moment, but, if done right, I'm finding it hard to think of many games that Co-op wouldn't be a good addition to, I am currently playing System Shock 2 in Co-op and it hasn't really ruined the atmosphere, in fact, it is MORE scary! ...Because the low polycount models of the characters look just as monstrous as the enemies perhaps but that is besides the point.
