Have to agree with some others, Bioshock 2 was a non needed sequel. The first was an amazing plot epic and the sequel felt like a straight to DVD spin off sequel that really doesn't hold a candle to its predecessor, the plot of Bioshock was damn near flawless, telling all the backstory and leaving the entire thing resolved perfectly.
Any form of sequel for that is not needed so despite the fun people clearly have with it (by all means I have no issue with this) I personally don't think it needed to happen.
You sure you finished Bioshock? The ending was horrible. The only thing that drove me to finish the game was to find out how he actually made it out of Rapture alive. Instead we got "It just happened, he lived to die an old man with the little sisters" Or that he unleashed them on some sailors in a piss poor cutscene. The actual story throughout the game wasn't all that good either, and then they tried to feed us that hypnotic "Would you kindly?" shit.
You are entitled to your own opinion even if I happen to disagree.
What follows is now my own subjective personal opinion:
I have to say that Bioshock did better over the course of one game creating a backstory and genuine feeling of legitimacy for its setting than most games do in the span of a trilogy. There was not a stone unturned in character dialouge or audio diary that didn't help build up the complete history of the rise and fall of Rapture, from the idea that started it, the corruption that began to poison it and the civl war that destroyed it. All excecuted flawlessly if you ask me.
As for the ending, well... I loved it. I always got the good ending because I am nothing if not a goody two shoes and I have to say, even though I can see why some people consider it cheesy I thought it had heart. A happy and complete ending, all the villains are dead, Rapture finally collapses and the Little Sisters are saved, free to live the lives that had been denied them for so long.
The music and thirties atmosphere was superbly done, completely immersing me into the sights and sounds of the world of Rapture and the horror aspect was really solid for the first half before you got the good weapons and everything became easy. The art was fantastic to look at and the gameplay was solid and fun.
Finally, the would you kindly bit was actually a great plot twist the first time, because it hits right as you seem to understand perfectly what's going on and thus alters everything. Admittedly it loses a little atmosphere after this but there is still no denying the twist was fantastic, part of what made it so much so was the interactivity aspect. (this is hard to explain so if you can't follow me here I don't blame you) Because at first you are immersed into the world and when you are doing all the things Atlas tells you to do you do them of your own free will but then the mind control twist comes and for me at least... well this changed perspective greatly because I had realised that the thoughts I was having in game about free will and such prior would have been similar thoughts the protagonist was having towards the end.
Point is, Bioshock was a brilliant and well excecuted game with a very heavy aspect on story that had set out with big goals and had achieved them all, it in my opinion
did not need a sequel hence why I mentioned it.
I apologise if this seemed at all rude, but this seemed as good a time as ever to explain my position on the matter of Bioshock.
