There are some games that just seem to be better left alone. Sequels that completely lack the characters and storyline of the first game: i.e. Metal Gear Solid 2. Or COMPLETELY depart from the main concept of the series: Bomberman Act Zero. Or horrific remakes of old games, mainly the new Sonic ones. What games should never have had a sequel?

I wish Wild Arms 3 didn't have a sequel because when X-Seed took the helm the series went from awesome to mediocre.

BioShock 2 was totally pointless, it was a good game but all it did for the story was add questions and never answer them.

Also Final Fantasy X-2, FFX wasn't a great game but it had an adequate story and decent characters but X-2 just ripped it all to shreds and added some tacked on gimmicks, ridiculously skimpy clothing, dull characters and a god-awful story.

Worms 3D, gameplay was awful and the plain sadistic humour of the 2D version games was just a masterpiece.

Final Fantasy X-2... Worst game ever quite possibly.

On the other hand I was happy when Fallout: New Vegas was announced, loved Fallout from Fallout 1, and can't wait for the Fallout MMORPG.

1st post. Nervous.
Anyway, I'll risk saying Black & white 2. I loved the original and CI, but the sequel just seemed a little rough to me. Not so much of the original's charm and humour.
Also, very much in agreement about Bioshock 2.

Edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention Deus Ex. Fantastic game. Not so fantastic sequel.

MW2... MW is by far the superior game.

Otherwise i'd say ODST... i love Halo but i still cant get myself to play through it.

Killzone 2, Deus Ex: Invisible War.

KZ2 was just a really mediocre shooter, and Deus Ex: IW was really, "meh"

Have to agree with some others, Bioshock 2 was a non needed sequel. The first was an amazing plot epic and the sequel felt like a straight to DVD spin off sequel that really doesn't hold a candle to its predecessor, the plot of Bioshock was damn near flawless, telling all the backstory and leaving the entire thing resolved perfectly.
Any form of sequel for that is not needed so despite the fun people clearly have with it (by all means I have no issue with this) I personally don't think it needed to happen.

EDIT

Red Faction. The first games a pretty good but II was an abomination. It really added nothing to the original story and had no online multiplayer. Eh, what a waste of $20. I bought it as a greatest hits title and still felt ripped off.

Bioshock 2. I'll admit, I had fun with it, but there was just no need for it. I mean, it was just so retarded that you're playing as a Big Daddy and you're about as weak as Jack. Only in the final 3 hours did I actually feel like an over-powered badass, but that was only because Eleanor was helping out, so it still didn't really feel like being a Big Daddy.

Also, the first game really tied up all the loose ends, so there's another reason.
