Bioshock 2, playing as a big daddy ruined it for me
Yeah. The story ended great as it was, it was a masterpiece. We didnt need to go back. We didnt want to.

Also. Left 4 Dead. Im not one of those crazy "this is stupid lets boycott it" people, not even close, but Id rather it had been an expansion or DLC rather than a sequel. There was nothing really especially new about it, like other games. Like youve never heard this complaint before.

Bioshock.

The second one didn't even seem to bring anything new to the story that seemed all that interesting to me.

I have my doubts with Portal 2 as well, but since it isn't out that doesn't count.

Eh, I quite liked the 08 version. The story was one of my favourite of the year (especially the ending, Fuck You Ubisoft for making it an epic cliffhanger and ditching the story for this years game). Sure the combat wasn't all that good, But the world was so beautiful and fun to explore I didn't really care, and I loved all the chatter between Elika and Prince.
Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, the world itself was amazing. But the cell shading didn't fit and they tried to do something with the series (fair enough they thought they might make it better) but it so wasn't true to the PoP series.
The danger was taken out of it (yes, you had the Sands of Time previously, but if you needed to rewind time for more than 10 seconds you were screwed) because Elika saved you all the time.
I appreciate that you enjoyed the game, but it's so weird because I just didn't get the banter between the Prince and Elika! Maybe I was holding out for Farah to show up again...who knows :D

Well, I wouldn't say that I wish Bioshock 2 never happened, but it really wasn't needed.

Army of Two: The 40th Day. It took everything that was fun about the first game and turned it into a boring pile of poo. Plus they changed voice actors for Salem and Rios, which REALLY pissed me off.

BRACE FOR CONTROVERSY

HALO!

Halo 2 and 3 add nothing to the original. It's really more like halo 1,7 or something.

(edit: o nooes the dude above has allready written halo, that makes the brace for controversy thing lame:( )

Half-Life? Phnarrrr

No, i think

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (it was stagnated)
Pokemon (Its like updating the formula for crack to make it more addictive)
Silent Hill 2 (One thing fucked up till all meaning is lost)
Oblivion (I'm serious)

As long as you conceed the first is good and the rest are just knock off rather than the slew spewing bile over every game then that's not too controversial.

It's not out yet but still, LittleBig Planet does NOT need a sequel, just more DLC.

SSBM, likely one of the more controversial opinions but Brawl was an overall disappointment to me. Everything got faster and weaker and it just messed up the gameplay too much to be enough fun.

Soul Calibur III. Now, don't get me wrong, I liked that they made SC IV, but it was something of a downgrade from SC III. 3 had a great story mode to it and a fun extensive campaign for your create-a-character, but while adding next to no notable new characters and giving a pile of steaming shit for a story-mode made me wish it hadn't been made at all.

Guitar Hero.

There's a theme to my entries it seems in that all of these games would've been much better with DLC rather than full sequel. Party games, or games with extensive character creation or playable characters that add very little every new game should just make DLC's. I know, SSBM was on the Gamecube before DLC, but still, imagine if instead of screwing with the gameplay they just added a set of all the new characters and stages to download? Plus, they replaced Mewtwo, a Pokemon icon with Lucario, who's not even a legendary, just a giant poser. Soul Calibur, and pretty much most fighting games just need downloadable characters at lower price instead of paying full price for a game that just has slightly better graphics, a handful of new characters, and the story made slashed to piles of poo poo pancakes. As for Guitar Hero? seriously, what's better about any new game? Wouldn't you rather have 1 Guitar Hero game that your used to with ALL the songs along the way instead of having to switch games when you want to go from Trogdor to Through the Fire and the Flames? And Little Big Planet, a game built on user-made content, and all games like that, a sequel makes all your hard work meaningless. Congratulations, what could possibly be in the sequel that they couldn't have made downloadable?

With games like Bioshock, (Haven't played 2 yet so I can't judge yet) there's a lot of negativity over continuing games that stand alone. While I'm all for not extending the story just to sell, as long as the story is good, don't make such a fuss. Just because something was great standalone doesn't mean it CAN'T be continued. While God of War stood alone great, it left me wanting more, just because of how fun it was, and the story added on took the continuity and gave it more intricate twists without ruining the integrity of the original imo. Yeah, it worked amazing as a standalone, but I think it works equally amazing as a series. Same with No More Heroes. If the creator can make a good story, it can be good, but I rarely judge a sequel before it comes out based on whether or not the original stands alone well. Exceptions being of course, Team Ico games. Direct sequels would not work well. But they know that. Downloadable colossi for SOTC though? THAT would be fantastic.
