I'm sure this thread has been done before, but I haven't seen anything like it in a long time, so dammit I'm gonna start it.

The title is fairly self explanatory: what is one game that you wish you could wipe your memory of and replay just to experience the game for the first time again. A game that blew you away or resonated with you the first time you played it, but doesn't feel the same when you pick it up a second or third time.

For me, it would be The World Ends With You. I hadn't heard of it until a friend got it and told me about it. I picked it up solely on his recommendation and a review I read, knowing nothing else about it. The game immediately impressed me with its unique visual style and soundtrack and drew me in with its characters and story. I loved the ending and how it tied up everything and after the credits rolled, I felt like a better person having played it. The game was fresh, the story had a deeper meaning, and it was genuinely fun to play. When I've attempted to pick it up again, it's still fun to play, but the freshness is gone and I know how the story plays out, so the experience is not the same. Thus, I would love to replay TWEWY without knowing anything about the game just to relive that initial experience.

But enough about me, what game would you pick?

Either Metroid Prime of Fire Emblem.

Metroid Prime just blew me away the first time i played it.
As soon as i got to the Main Menu i knew it was gonna be an awesome ride.

Fire Emblem, i was a little skeptical at first but the art style, gameplay, and huge story had me hooked.

Shadow Hearts II, simply because it was a long game with about 4 or so plot twists that just kept my attention. It's also fun because it had many interesting game mechanics, combo setups, and puzzles that successfully complimented each other with little flaw. The character arch was also done amazingly so that not much was left unsaid by the end of the game. Having two endings added replay value along with being able to keep the forms unlocked like Neo Amon.

Bioshock, just so I could live through that twist once more. It may be one of the greatest moments in my gaming history.

Chrono Trigger. As hard as it is to say, that game gets old about the 900th play-through. If I could have the same excitement I had the first time again, I'd be happy.

I didn't say Metroid Prime because it still blows me away when I play it. In fact, I hope to borrow the trilogy from a friend soon and give all three another go.

Oddly enough, with <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.128851-TYPE-MOON-reviews-Tsukihime>one of my favorite games, I would be absolutely horrified to do that...mainly because so much of my memory of that game is tied to what my circumstances were when I first played it (it was a stressful time, and I was studying abroad). Similarly, I don't think I'd want to replay <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.206764-Neutral-Drow-reviews-Kana-Little-Sister>Kana: Little Sister for the first time, more because it just left so much of a mark that the idea of forgetting it in any way makes me cry.

That said, I don't think I would mind replaying for the first time some of my other favorite games, like <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.135672-Neutral-Drow-reviews-A-Drug-That-Makes-You-Dream>A Drug That Makes You Dream and <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.163769-Neutral-Drow-reviews-Kanon>Kanon.

Metroid Prime:Trilogy is one of my favorite games.

I loved all of the Primes, even Hunters.

Metroid Prime was one of the first shooters that kept me in with more than fun combat.
Its Music, Environment, and Lore were all awesome.

Any game that has good puzzles or a good plot. Shadow of the Colossus comes to mind because to take down each one, you gotta figure out how.

Same here. Bioshock for the first time was damn near like magic, drew me in and wouldn't let go until the end. I miss that, and I hope Infinite feels much the same when it is released.

Definitly Shadow of the Colossus, or Red Dead Redemption. They're my two most favorite games of all time.

I might have to agree with you on that, NeutralDrow...mostly because I never got to finish it and maybe that way I would be able to go through it without all of the side effects.

Hmm..other than that, probably Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age..and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, just so I could go through those 500+ hours of gameplay all over again =D

The problem is, a lot of my favorite games have memories not only with the game itself, but from experiences I had while playing it. So I have to pick a game that not only doesn't hold personal memories, like Mario RPG, but is worth replaying.

I guess that vote would have to go to Red Dead Redemption. I can't replay it, because going through long parts would seem tedious the second time around.

...?

I'm saying I wouldn't want to do that with Tsukihime. Too many of my clearest memories of Japan are tied to my playing that game the first time. If I forgot the game entirely, it'd feel like forgetting two months of my life (also counting the time I took playing Kagetsu Tohya and reading a bunch of doujinshi).

I sympathize entirely.

Oh...oops x-x...I guess I read that wrong, sorry...I'm still keeping my remark of wanting to go through it again though.
