So i thought about something just now while in a thread about easy mode in dark souls , are there games WITHOUT difficulty setting or without a hard mode that you knowledgable escapists would like implemented?

Ironically , i would have loved a Hard mode in Dark souls . Yes i know there's a new game + but i would have liked the ability to play new game + but with a completly new character. Maybe i should start a petition for hard mode in Dark souls 2 .

Also most Jrpgs don't have difficulty setings. I'm a big jrpg fan , so i would love difficulty settings in games like Final fantasy or Wild arms . For some reason there is a easy mode in FFXIII-2 but not a hard mode . Maybe if there was a hard mode i would have been entertained long enough to finish it .

So my friendly escapists . What games would you like a hard mode implemented?

Capcha: Do it now !

Yes capcha do it now!

I'd quite like a hard mode for some old-school platformers. Yoshi's Story, Super Mario World, even Sonic 2. Thankfully for Yoshi's Island you can just turn to the bonus stages, some of those were punishing.

The Lion King on SNES.
That beast would be unbeatable - you wouldn't even make it past the first level if that was the case. That game had some serious issues considering it was a game aimed at children.

Oh god that game. It was awesome but fuck it was difficult. Especially the levels in the elephant graveyard. Fuck those levels.

OT: I would also love a harder mode in Dark Souls

Torchlight 2 can do with a hard mode. Yeah, there is Elite but that's just tedious, there is Elite Hardcore but that's just random luck whether you die forever or not. New Game+ is just levelling enemies. The Mapworks provide something more like with the map modifiers but all in all, I'd prefer a difficulty that changes things without just applying a damage/health multiplier - adding additional effects to monsters, for example and maybe some different movement pattern.

Somewhat unrelated: congrads on making thread number 400000 :D

Was that the one with the level where you ran as simba, towards the camera in the wildebeast stampede? I played it on a pc though. Never managed to finish it.....

As for the OT, dragons dogma. Means NG+ would actually have a point.

Did you guys know you could both choose what level to start on, as well as switch on invincibility by pressing B+A+R+R+Y+START on the title screen?

OT: I'd amp the combat in Okami. Just a little bit.

No I didn't know that, would have been a big help :(. Still this was before the days of the internet. Chances are I would have had to call one of those massive rip-off hint lines that companies used to have in order to find out the cheats lol.

It was before the internet for me as well. A friend of mine, incidentally the same person that beat my every other SNES game for me, simply knew "the BARRY thing". I can't for the life of me know how in hell did she know that. I guess it's one of those friend-of-a-friend things, until you hit a guy that either bought a strategy guide or his uncle worked in the dev team. For the record, I could never get past the Hakuna Matata level without cheating.

I quite liked the hard mode on Fall of Cybertron since enemies did more damage to me and there were a few more thrown in my way than the usual grunts and hell even some with the bosses too.

But all in all I don't think I'd choose hard mode off the bat since I'm more of a normal/easy mode guy at first and then and only them maybe choose hard mode to feel a difference since I'm more about having fun with my gaming time rather than seeking a challenge.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Yes technically it has a hard mode, but I swear it is so easy it terrifies me to think what the easy difficulty is. Does the game just play itself?

- Ocarina Of Time. I reckon it was too easy in the first place, most of the mobs and bosses were very easy to counter attack. And it doesn't stop there, you get plenty of weapons in that game that can be used to strip away any challenge from certain bad guys. Say Dark Link for example, just use the Megaton hammer, it's literally super effective. I've played Master Quest and to me it's not perfect. The bosses are the same and most bad guys can still be beaten easily.

- The Pokemon games desperately need a hard mode I reckon. The reason I don't play them any more is because I find it easier to win than lose. I collect many potions for different things but I never needed to use them unless I'm playing against another player.

RTS's (Personally I'm thinking Total War). But not hard mode as in the AI given unfair advantages, which they are. Stuff like random units spawned, better stats than usual, limitless resources. That kind of stuff pisses me off. I wish the AI was better in stuff like single player campaigns. A lot of the time they simply do no compare to a human opponent, even that human is a pretty average RTS player like myself. Humans are just able to take advantage of what they have more than an AI can.

Give me a hard mode in any Elder Scrolls or Assassins' Creed game that ain't bullshit difficulty, and I will not be able to throw my money fast enough at the developers.

Hmm that's a very good question.

Got to think of games I don't feel challenged enough on.

Perhaps Super Mario Galaxy?

I'll say Driver: San Francisco as well- it was a good ride, but nowhere near as challenging of Drivers of old.

Zelda Twilight Princess
The final battle would have been epic, had the boss not spent half the battle staring at you while in attack range
When i replayed the game the other day,i remember only using about 6 healing items(or less)

Dynasty Warriors
I am aware that it has a hard mode, but it simply increases damage received and decreases damage dealt, the red shirted mooks still just stare at you while you cut down their palls a dozen at a time

Well, that wasn't so much a question about a hard mode, but about how the ai is stupid

A game that would benefit from not having a hard mode(or having a fair one) is Borderlands 2,the builds you can do at level 50 are awesome, but you can only reach level 50 by going into the horrible, horribly designed new game +,Borderlands 2 is a gun dependant game,if you have a good gun,you will kick ass,if you don't,ass will kick you,it was also designed so that the loot would be more quickly outclassed than in Borderlands 1,the result is a mode where enemies often kill you in a few shots, which you are unable to avoid since it is a shooter, and who take about the same time it takes to watch a dedicated game of glacier golf to die

I wonder what the reaction from the fanbase would be to that, would it justify easy mode if there was an even harder mode?

I'd say Dark Souls.

Once you get a grip on the basics it becomes way too easy.
