I have bought a few games twice. Either because I played the console version and wanted the PC version, or have the PC version and wanted the Steam version. They include:

I got Fallout 3 twice too but that was just because I liked it so much on the ps3. I decided to get goty for the pc: for the dlc and the mods.Metalchair said:
That isn't the first time I had done that either. I loved San Andreas so much I had to get the PC version for modding too.
I also had Unreal Tournament for the Dreamcast & PC.
That game had some great mods: I loved replacing the voices with clips from Pulp Fiction & George Carlin.

I bought Saints Row 2 twice. Once for PC and once for Xbox, because I discovered the Xbox one was better and I found someone selling the special edition. I plan on doing the same for Saints Row The Third.

Mass Effect 2, I had it on the 360 but I traded it in when I was done. I saw it a couple of months ago going for a fiver on D2D so I bought it. Still havn't had a chance to play it through again!
I also have 2 copies of Witcher 2, but thats because I bought it when it first came out and then got it for my birthday. (I felt bad about telling them I already had it so I never did!)

The only games I've bought twice were Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell: Conviction. I also bought Call of Duty: World at War for the second time only for the zombies mode, really. The problem is that I did this literally the day before they announced the Rezurrection map pack for Black Ops... Though, if I lost any of the following games (because I'd never sell them unless I literally had to), I'd definitely buy them again:

-any Golden Sun game
-Zoids: Battle Legends
-Tales of Symphonia
-Crisis Core: FFVII
-Civilization III
I also intend to purchase Zone of the Enders and ZoE: The 2nd Runner again when the HD Collection comes out.

-Beat Trine on PS3 and bought from steam.
-Bought Overlord series on PS3, then re-bought on steam for no reason (massive sale).
-Own 3 copies of Oblivion, xbox360 GOTY (and purchased all DLC aside from horse armor and spellbooks), Steam Ultimate edition, PS3 regular edition that will probably never be played.
-Sonic 1, 2, 3, & knuckles, own pretty much every version released other than the original cartridges and sonic jam (note: DO NOT GET ANY FROM XBLA, bad ports).
-Plan to get Galcon Labs PSN Mini while owning galcon fusion on steam.
-would get a copy of Eufloria from PSN if it was playable on PSP while owning it on Steam.
-have Borderlands on Xbox360 but don't want to pay for Gold anymore so I bought it on steam.
-Torchlight bought in a steam sale but didn't care for controls, fell in love with XBLA version.
-bought Beyond Good and Evil for PS2 about a 1-2 weeks before HD remake was announced, hope to get that instead of playing my PS2 copy.
-have Bionicle the game for PC and gamecube, I got the PC version first but have only beaten the Gamecube version
-bought Defense Grid: The Awakening off XBLA then ended up with a copy on steam when purchasing the indie strategy pack.
-plan to get the Jak and Daxter trilogy HD remake despite owning all 3 games (not immediately though).
-Got the PSP version of Little Big Planet despite owning and hating the PS3 version, was free due to PSN outage, but would have preferred nearly anything else. (haven't played PSP version yet so it may turn out to be decent)
-Bought megaman zero 3 and 4 for GBA then bought megaman zero collection for DS to get zero 1 and 2.
-rented metroid prime 2, bought metroid prime 3, bought metroid prime trilogy, bought metroid prime for under $5, and hope to own a copy of metroid prime 2 in the future.
-might get the updated-updated version of phantom brave for PSP rather than play my wii version any more.
-own pikmin 2 for gamecube and would love to get new play control for pikmin 1 and 2 on wii.
-own shadow of the colossus and bought ICO and shadow of the colossus collection for ICO.
-doesn't really count since they're different games and I bought them on the same day, but Sonic Colors Wii and DS.
-own Sonic Unleashed on xbox360 then got Sonic Unleashed wii as a Christmas present.
-have Zelda: Ocarina of time on wii virtual console and want to get 3DS remake once I get a 3DS (need a separate reason to get one though).
-have also bought Audiosurf and Sanctum on steam, then bought packs that included them.
-Tales of Vesperia is my favorite game on xbox360 and I WOULD DO ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING FOR AN ENGLISH COPY OF THE PS3 PORT!
[shocked silence] I honestly am completely surprised and kinda horrified by how many games I've re-bought!
(the red squigglies were invading my post, chrome didn't recognize most of the video game hardware and software names.)

I've actually bought Resident Evil 4 a total of 5 times. I bought it on the Gamecube first, then on PS2 because of all the new stuff, traded in both copies, bought it on PS2 again a year later, sold it to a friend, bought it again in a 3 game collection, traded those in when I got rid of my PS2 and just recently bought in on PSN.
Not sure this counts as a "recent game," but I bought the original Starcraft THREE times. Happily.
Most recently, I got it before going on deployment, when I wasn't sure what my internet situation would be. And I'll be darned if that little game didn't keep me occupied for months, without requiring me to once connect to the interwebs.

well I only ever lost one copy, but I've purchased the original fallout 3 times, I still have 2 of them 
, also on the same line fallout 2, I have 2 copies, fallout tactics I have 3 copies still, and I also have 2 copies of fallout 3 and all the addons... just for fun... only one copy of new vegas though... and still don't have all dlc...
I think I also have 2 copies of red alert, and tiberian sun too for some reason... and red alert 2, and 3...
seems I end up with a lot of duplicate games...
