Having just blown my way through a new credit card I'm back playing console games. I'm catching up on some old releases and it got me thinking.

What are some of the games that in general might have bad reviews, broken mechanics, gameplay issues or are bug riddled that you still love?

I'm curious as I'd quite like to find some of those lumps of coal with a hint of diamond hidden inside.

Anyway, just a thought, I'll come up with answers of my own after getting back to some real work for a while. And, err, sorry if this has been done about a 1000 times before.

KotOR2 is still my favorite Obsidion game in spite of its many flaws.

So...that.

EDIT: I know it's an Obsidion, my bad. I posted this minutes after waking up and logging on, my mistake.

Alpha Protocol.

I agree with most of the criticism but dispite all its flaws it was still one of the best gaming experiences I've had in recent years.

Except it's not a Bioware game.

OT: Dragon Age 2. For me repeating dungeons wasn't the "WORST THING IN THE WORLD WAAH!" It had a better story and gameplay than the first one did, although the narrative technique of jumping years at a time was kind of well, meh. People call it a "quick money grab", and while it's definitely somewhat exploitative on the success of Origins, I wouldn't call 30+ hours "quick".

Minecraft.
Despite it's repetitiveness and lack of story/tutorial, the gameplay is so addictive and fun I just want to keep playing more.

KotOR 2 is made by Obsidian (which would explain the many flaws)

OT. I don't own that many broken games, but I would say Thief 3. Among the Thief community, it's mostly regarded with contempt, but I forgive the flaws, for it's the first Stealth game I played, it sold me on the Stealth genre and immediatly set the bar of expectation relatively high.

Funny you mention that, I was playing the Alpha Protocol demo on OnLive and it really scratched an itch for a spy game - even with some of the obvious problems. Might give it a proper go around once I finish Metro 2033.

And Far Cry 2 really dragged me in as well, though I could have done with a much longer respawn at those damn road blocks...

Darksiders. A lot of people didn't like it due to it's unoriginality, but damn I liked that game.

Metro 2033 is another one. It definitely has flaws, but I love it.

It's an Obsidian game.

On that note, pretty much every Obsidian game I've ever played (Haven't played Alpha Protocol). Sure they are buggy as all hell, and need some console command tweaking every once in awhile, but I love the writing in the games, and they do give a great amount of choice in their games.

Tony Hawk's Underground. Despite being short, repetitive and brutally hard on most difficulty settings, that was my favourite game I had for my PS2.

Dragon Age 2. Not as good as Origins in terms of story, characters, the plot wheel and overall longevity, but I still loved. I agree with many of the criticisms, but I still thought that it was a very good game.

The Dynasty Warriors series.

Yeah it may be a bit repetitive, but I love it to death, well at least the PS2 era, the next-gen era isn't going too well.

I just found a player made mod for the PC version that fixes a lot of the bugs and uncompletedness about the game. Maybe we can pretend Bioware had so much faith in it's community it gave us a game we could finish building together? Maybe? :D
