Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together, taking the 1-2C-3C-4 route and letting Kuchua live and probably recruiting all the special characters I can.
While I've still yet to play anything in the Fire Emblem series (which would seem to be the original source of the grid-battle style of tactical RPGs) going back through this game reminds of things I did and didn't like about FFTactics, which was considered by many to be the game's (spiritual or otherwise) successor.
Well, until an actual sequel (which by story standards is actually a far-back prequel) was made...though it wasn't by the original developers, though the music was trash and every improvement to the system was counter-un-balanced by at least 2 things that were terrible or somehow brought down the experience when compared to the original.
I can't wait to recruit Haborym later, he's like a more fun version of T.G. Cid from FFTactics. Sure, he's not atrociously overpowered to an absurd extent but he's got some real strengths that are fun to make use of and there's some challenge to trying to use them right while keeping him alive to use them. Well, at least until you get into 99-luck training, or using necro/retissuse on characters after you've got what you need from the Hell Gate...
