World of Warcraft.
I can honestly say I am with you...

As for console games:

8-Eyes (NES) - anyone that has ever been to the end of this game will know exactly what I mean.
FFVII - and by finish, I mean do everything you can possibly do in the game.
Bionic Commando (NES) - An already hard game made even harder by a super hard final shot to beat it.
Castlevania 2 (NES) - This was back before the age of strategy guides.

and finally, I didn't beat it, but my brother did and may be the only person ever...

Marble Madness (NES) - They don't make 'em like that anymore.

What game are you most proud of finally finishing? Kingdom Hearts II for me, felt so rewarding to get that far. Although I never beat Sephiroth.

Oh, and Chrono Trigger. That game took forever to finish.
FFVIII - for the 45 minute slog of death that was the final boss battle. That game screwed you over royally for bad guys in some parts. That damn game took me 75 HOURS to complete and I was only something like 64% complete!

Yeah, but did you beat the Ultima Weapon?! The one you had to ring some bell to make appear. I can proudly say I did, but gave a large chunk of my life in doing so.

I just thought of another old one I was super proud of finishing:

Kenseiden (Sega Master System) You prolly never heard of it, but If you ever have the chance, give it a shot... I DARE you!

Haha, no I didn't do that one - next time!

I've heard of Kenseiden, but I never played it. A dare? A DARE you say!? Well how can I not accept le challenge. I've got a Sega Emulator on my comp, I might have to look it up!

Due to the extreme realism, this game is immensely difficult, even on normal difficulty. I'm happy to have finished it, am eager to play again, and hastily recommend it as one of the best war games I've ever played.

Morrowind for me (and Tribunal). Took a hell of a long time too, but I finished the main quest and most of the side ones as well. I'm still kicking myself for discovering the difficulty bar only after finishing most of the quests...

Mine would be Final fantasy 10 since it was the first final fantasy I had completed but I felt most rewarded at the end of Mother 3.

Not really proud of finishing any game per se, but certain conditions made it worth it, like FFXII 100% finish and getting the Big Boss emblem on MGS4.

Contra 4 on Hard Mode.

Oh my god, was I happy with seeing the ending after all that. That's gotta be one of the hardest challenges I've done in my video gaming career.
Is Contra 4 as hard as the old Contras? Because beating any of them is something to be proud of. I've managed Contra 1 and 3, the first one without counters. Not played Contra 3 that much though.
Definitely, if not harder. The last level (which you can't even get to on Easy mode) is probably the hardest final level of any Contra game. It's just so fast and crazy. And that's not to mention the final boss.
