Halo.
When it was introduced to me, it was the game that everyone was playing. It came along just as I was starting to really get into the concept of multiplayer games, so I think I formed my initial opinion based purely on the hype of it's popularity. I loved playing it with friends, and I jumped at every chance I could get to play it. But as I played it more and more, I began to realize how truly mediocre it was. I think the turning point was when a friend let me borrow is XBox and I started playing Halo on my own. Without the hype of it's popularity, it wasn't really good enough to stand out. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't necessarily good either. I thought maybe if I went back to playing with friends, that would change, but it didn't. I still found it to be pretty mediocre. After playing both 2, and 3, I've formed basically the same opinion of those as well.

But that's just my opinion.

GTAIV.

Bought it, enjoyed it, played it about 1/2 way through and realized I wasn't having any fun playing it. Started thinking it would have been more fun if it was more cartoony and goofy like GTAIII or Saints Row. Then Saints Row 2 came out and realized it was just more fun on the whole than GTAIV. I wouldn't necessarily say that SR2 is a better game than GTAIV, just that I had more fun with SR2...

Team Fortress 2.

First time I played it I quit after 5 minutes thinking "Enemies don't even die when you shoot them".

Too much Call of Duty...

I changed my mind about Fallout 3 recently.

I thought it crap, and compared to Oblivion and Morrowind, it is. But after playing it some more, I've come to like it enough that I will now get around to finishing it.

Evil characters suck, btw. It just makes the Wasteland even more desolate when everyone's dead.

I thought Turning Point: Fall of Liberty was good. Alternate story WW2, Germans win, etc.: a nice deviation from the bread-and-butter WW2 games.
Then, when I played it, it was generic FPS...

Same thing about War Front: Turning Point. "Command & Conquer + Company of Heroes? Sign me in!" I thought. Then, I actually played the demo.
Horrible doesn't describe it. Sure, it was the RTS I'm more or less used to, but when you send a line of heavy tanks to attack an MG emplacement, you expect them to destroy it, not the MG to destroy the tanks. No armor values?

Forza 2, I was a long time Gran Turismo fan and I didn't think I'd enjoy this game. But in the end, I really enjoyed leveling up my cars.

Eve Online, I started off like everyone else. It's boring in space with extra boring sauce. But after a while, I came around and now I am addicted to it.

Mass Effect. First time I played it, I thought it was kinda boring. Then I decided to plough through, and by the end I thought it was pretty excellent.

Also, I used to like Halo before I had to watch my brother play it for at least an hour every day while waiting for him to "just finish something" and come off.

Mass Effect I loved on the first play through, but trying to play it again is just infuriating. I'll get stuck by some game ending bug, or I'll have to grind for hours before I can take on a particular section, which is not my idea of fun.

My biggest switch has been with JRPGs. I hated them for a while, then I loved them for a couple years, but now I am back to hating them. They just bore the hell out of me. I really have no idea why I loved them for that small chunk of time. I don't even remember why I changed my mind on them in the first place.

i really enjoyed saints row 2, but GTAIV's Free Mode game can't be beat. Theres so many things you can do in the game (Hide and Seek, Undercover, Races, Manhunt) that for me it automatically beats out anything SR2 has to offer. Just my opinion though.

I hated Red Orchestra for the first two hours. (Such a huge learning curve for an FPS) Then I got a k/d ratio better than 1:10.

Shadow of the colossus. I played a demo when it first came out and though it sucked but then a year later a friend of mine convinced me to have another go and I loved it.

Quite a few games really.

-Tales of Symphonia I loved when I first played it, but when I tried to go back and replay it I really didn't like it.

-Halo games. The first game was really enjoyable, the second game's online was enjoyable(The single player was a bit meh...), once Halo 3 was released however I really didnt like the series, can't play the first 2 now either, they all seem monotonous.

-Bioshock. Thought it was going to be like most generic FPS' however to my enjoyment, it wasn't and it turned out to be one of my favourite games of that year.

-Kingdom Hearts. I've changed my mind so much about that game its crazy. Started out really liking it, playing it for hours. Then I went off it as I really got bored of all the monotonous Disney worlds(I've never been a big Disney person, so there wasn't any nostalgia to help me along either...) Perservered with it, and started really liking it as it got to the end and more of the real story was revealed. Really loved the ending too. Same happened with KH2, loved the first few hours when you play as Sora's nobody(Forget his name) and then you go back to playing as Sora in the diney worlds and it becomes a bit monotonous again. I've come to the conclusion with that, I just really find those disney worlds boring.

-Fable 2. Adored Fable 1, and I've completed that loads of times. So I was really anticipating the release of Fable 2. I was on holiday when it was released, but it was waiting for me when I returned to England. Shoved it in, and loved it in the beginning, the opening was a bit reminiscent of 1, but I still loved it. I played through it, anticipating some awesome story event as it was building up the storyline for something climactic to happen. Then I get to the ending, which to me didn't even feel like an ending. It felt like someone started writing a story and got sidetracked halfway through, not finishing it, or they forgot to add the second half of the game. Really did kill the game for me, I can't play it again either because of the knowledge that it ends lackluster. It is all very well saying DLC is going to be released, but I paid £40 for a full game, not an half completed game.. =/

Final Fantasy games - i was sick of seeing them in every magazine i got, then out of boredom (years later) i played FF7, now i'm hooked.
Legacy of Kain - don't get me wrong! i AM A FAN! but the more i play Blood Omen, the more i dislike the rest (especially Defiance)

(my reasons for hate/like are long-winded and i didn't want to bore everyone to death by typing them :D )

Fable II, in the beginning I thought it was pretty cool, then well... I expected something interesting to happen in it but nothing did...
I would say Fable 2 was the biggest dissapointment for me, I thought it was way to short. Also there is nothing to do after you beat the story but buy houses, and get STDs.
Just like real life...
Anyway, Mass Effect and Oblivion. Probably because in the beginning you suck at it, and have no power. Now I'm into them and I really like them
