I assume you mean "gave up and said fuck this shit" rather than "stopped to play another sweet game with every intent to come back".

I don't give up easy, but I gave up on Call of Juarez. No matter how hard up I am for a Western FPS, this game took several good ideas and then spent all week figuring out how it could wring the life out of them, and then had a "worst level design" competition. Just to see how bad it could get, I played it through to what I *think* is the final showdown, a level so horrible and nonsensical that I just gave up. You win CoJ.

Mass Effect 2

My first play through on the final mission I had someone
I put Thane in the thermal vent. They said they needed stealth and he's both a very successful assasin and requires an arid environment
die for what I thought to be
Why the hell are you sticking your head into a doorway when a dozen people are firing through it!?
I left it alone since I didn't really enjoy having them around anyway, but when on my second play through, with the help of the ME2 wiki, I ended up losing
Tali
on the exact same portion after selecting them based on the wiki's recommendation, I just said f*ck it and haven't touched it since.
Either your squad leader for that part was a poor choice (that was what f*cked me up), or maybe you need loyalty (dunno if that's an issue, I've just always had it)

Games I've stopped playing...
Played them to death, don't see a point in going back:
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect
Oblivion
Kotor
DA:O
Halo 1, 2, & 3
Age of Mythology: Actually, I accidentally severely damaged the disk :(

Just got tiresome, even after not that much play:
L4D
HL2: Episode 1(one playthrough was enough)
EVE Online (I actually played this one quite a while, got up to having a few pretty good ships (pride of my fleet: Loki), but I just gradually became more and more bored with the mostly very slow-paced gameplay)
Halo: ODST
DDO

Games I intend to go back to at some point:
LOTRO
Portal (need the second ending)
TF2

Most recently, gave up on Darksiders part way thru, and Borderlands...while I was keen to enjoy a second playthru, the enemies started 10 levels below me meaning zero challenge...so gave that up too. I don't know if MMOs count considering their intrinsic nature, but gave up on SWG, LotR, WAR and AoC quite early on...generally from uninteresting noob experience or having to repeat the *exact* same 'tutorial' levels/missions (AoC) for subsequent characters.

The only game I've given up on and was disappointed about was L4D2. It just refuses to work reliably on my Win 7/GTX285 PC. A shame as it's quite enjoyable.

Tales of Phantasia. Got to a dungeon rather late in the game and I haven't really played it much since. I've restarted a couple times, but I've still yet to catch up.

GTA4 has been a bit of a problem, too. But part of that problem is that for the longest time I had to play on my brothers PS3. I stopped playing, re-started months later, but then my bro moved out of the house. I just got my own PS3 and the game for my birthday, and I've been playing it quite a bit. So hopefully, I'll actually unlock Alderney this time.

Dragon Age

Just a couple hours in, then I quit.

I never did like western RPG's that much.

Counter-Strike: Source. Used to play it a lot some years ago, but suddenly lost all interest. I just stopped playing Alone in the Dark as well, because I got bored and frustrated with the poor controls. But I paid 600kr on that silly game (that's roughly $100) so I intend to finish it. ..Some time or another anyway....

I do it with a lot of games but I have done it a shit load more to the books I am reading lately. At the moment I have The Night Angel Trilogy, The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, V for Vendetta and Dune by Frank Herbert to read.

Has anyone here just stopped playing a game and never played it again? It could be unfairness, boredom, anything really. For me it was Brutal Legend with the fight against Ophelia, bloody Reapers.
I got The Saboteur and Brutal Legend for Xmass, played BL for an hour or two, played Saboteur for a day or so, and just never went back. I think I'm going to trade them in for Just Cause 2.

Also now that im thinking, i never finished any of the stalkers.. i have a problem.
haha

I dunno why but I haven't played TF2 in donkey's years. I think I've gotten to that stage where I've played it for so long I just cba to boot-it-up again.

The Warriors, Sudeki. ->> I'd like to complete everything to 100%, at first try, even if that is the hardest stuff. Well, in Sudeki I forgot to do a side-misison, and in Warriors, I missed a tag or somethin'... Maybe I'll try them again. I'm not normal.
MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. ->> In the Festival mode, the last level is impossible. Not hard. IMPOSSIBLE. Really. The only reason why I kept that game is that I've got as a christmas present.

Neverwinter Nights I AND II. Started it with the best of intentions, then got bored a bit, stopped playing and lost intrest. At least in the second one I'd gotten to Neverwinter, didn't even do that in the first one. :)
Be glad you stopped playing NWN2. The ending would piss you off.

I stopped playing SWAT 4 after I couldn't get past this mission where the crimescene house is full of gas and I'm not permitted lethal weapons.

I stopped playing Advanced Wars: Dual Strike. Fuck the last fight of that game. No. I'm not going to waste hours coming up with strategy for every move in order to beat a fight that is only difficult because it is so stacked against you that it can only be described as incredibly unfair.

Other than that, most recently I just stopped playing FF13. I wasn't interested in the story, the battle system isn't for me(In RPG's I need to micromanage, not trust the computer), and it seemed like all of the enemies were re-skins(which is really just more of a nitpick).

As far as I can recall I had a recommended squad leader on my second team, and like you I had all loyalties. Even if I had chosen a poor second squad leader, why would the tech specialist die as a result?

In any event, ME2 felt like it was suffering from middle child syndrome; serving as an evolution for the main plot points, settling what had happened to the discarded characters from ME1 and setting things up for the finale. Once is enough of that I think.

Probably Fallout 3 after I got RROD. That was the last game I played on it, before it got buggered. Now though, I've started over and got all the DLC's, so hopefully another 200 hours will just drain away because I've forgotten most of the games events, quests and characters anyway.
