Shadows Die Twice worries me. I wonder if it will be what everyone hopes it will be, or if it will be something completely different from the Nioh or Souls-like everyone assumes it to be. Didn't the director say something to the effect of he wasn't gonna make another similar souls game anytime soon?
Sekiro is definitely not a souls game or a souls-like. The pace of combat makes Bloodborne look slow by comparison. its as if someone took Bloodborne, Assassin's Creed Origins, and the Arkham series and mashed them together. The stamina meter is no where to be seen, there are stealth kills, corner kills, Assassin's Creed like detection indicators over enemy heads, and the estus flask is sticking around. I've never played it, but comments are comparing the game to Tenchu.

Thank god we finally have a release date for Ace Combat 7! Now to pray it doesn't get delayed again.

Has Ace Combat always secretly been a JRPG/Anime?

As a child I only ever recall playing some sort of jump in arcade mode.
Ace Combat has always been Gundam, but with jets.

Glad to hear there'll be a sequel to Mudrunner. Personally I'm waiting on news on my beloved Elite Dangerous.

Game of the Year
You shouldn't say stuff like that around here.

People don't like it when someone calls something GOTY without playing it. lol
Sucks to be them; Game of the Year!
this very forum had a massive go at me last year because i dared to suggest that Xenoblade 2 would be my Game of the Year before it came out in December.
Because you clearly don't understand hyperbole, versus fanboyism.

To which I say this: what's the problem? Even if someone is engaging in fanboyism it's kind of pointless to complain about it because it doesn't affect you. It's like complaining about someone saying that their movie of the year is going to be Deadpool 2.

Yeah, VaatiVidya is a big SoulsBorne fan and his first impressions [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xrd8R86CwPk] are pretty glowing, especially for the game being seven months out.

It's kinda souls-like -- there's and estus flask-like health mechanic and a little statue where you sit to create a checkpoint. But it definitely seems to be going for a straight-up action experience, as opposed to trying to be an RPG. Something Bloodborne should've done, in stead of trying to emulate Dark Souls with the most rudimentary RPG mechanics.

I've never played it, but comments are comparing the game to Tenchu.
Apart from the giant monsters it's pretty reminiscent of Tenchu, with the hookshot getting onto rooftops.

Looking good overall. Still, Activision is publishing it, so I am waiting for that penny to drop.

In a forum in which we all share our opinions on the games we play, it becomes disingenuous to rave about a game that wont be released for months yet. Yoshi claimed Xenoblade would be his game of the year, months before the game was released. Not in a joking way (as the motorcycle comment obviously was) but in legit praise for a title that he only had previous games and preview footage experience with. Thus he was called out about it and an argument ensued. Be hyped for any game you want, but when we are all discussion games for GOTY, common sense suggests that the game should be out before you can confirm a GOTY award to a game.

It would be like a group of people talking about different cheeses, and someone saying "I like CAKE!". That's their right to like cake, but it doesn't fit the conversation and offers no validity to anything in the discussion of cheese.

We all know who the fanboys on the website are. Yoshi loves Nintendo. B-Cell loves any FPS that doesn't contain a female protagonist. However fanboying in discussions are usually not helpful nor do they contribute to said discussions.

Now if Yoshi had proclaimed Xenoblade as GOTY after the release, then nobody would have had any problem with it. It was his attempt to legitly justify it as a GOTY before anyone got their hands on it.

Holy crap I'm back. Remind me not to express any opinion what-so-ever, because apparently all I have to do to get warnings is sneeze incorrectly.

Ugh. Anyway. SHADOWS DIE TWICE! Let's go! I'm down for fucking up some....demons? Game looks sick. And I for one am glad to see the Dark Souls folks doing something different, even if it might make Souls fans a little sad

Sekiro looks pretty good so far. It still has quite a bit of Souls-iness to it in the sense you can totally tell the dev that made Souls is making this from the HUB design to the health system to the lock-on white circle to the combat itself (even though it's even faster-paced than Bloodborne). It looks like the enemies finally have some AI to them though that one enemy just slowly backing up under a "caution" state was kinda lame though enemies can look up it seems by the orge at least. The combat looks a lot better than Souls, it's faster-paced and looks more skill dependent with more combat options. The Posture system sounds better than any mechanic from Souls. Good thing they did get rid of the stamina system because From didn't know how to properly implement it anyway and it was just functionally a DPS-limiter making fights drag on longer than they needed to. Plus the Posture system is basically replacing what stamina did but in a much more interesting way. The boss battles look cooler already, the orge threw the character across the level and then you can grapple hook onto the orge as well, looks a lot better than hacking away at some large creature's chin like in a Souls game.

Exactly this. It was like November of last year and it was a thread asking what your REAL GOTY was at that point.

The game could have only been releaseing on December 31st at 11:59pm for all i care.

That still doesn't give either of you any bloody right to tell me what i can and can't choose as my GOTY.

And saying "aww it's just a joke!" When someeone else gets hyped and fanboys over a Devil May Cry 5 trailer is a fucking cop out excuse and complete double standard.

It's only ok if it's not me that's excited for a game in your head.

It wasn't about excitement. It was about what you thought was the best game that year. You clearly have no ability to tell the difference between the two things.

Again there is a difference between joking hype, and legit discussion. GOTY jokes happen all the time. You seem to have some trouble separating yourself form your fandom and factual statements.

Hype for upcoming games, and GOTY discussion are completely different things. Do you understand? Context matters.

Okay you're not actually addressing how that bugs you except in a vague, roundabout manner. What bothers you so much about that that? It was in a GOTY thread, it didn't matter if it was released or not, especially since it was going to be released THE NEXT MONTH. And you know what, Yoshi is right: YOU DON'T GET TO DICTATE WHAT HE DECLARES AS HIS GOTY. It's actually really frivolous to get mad over it when you get down to it. Unless he was bashing you from the outset (which he wasn't, I remember that thread) then it's really just you getting angry over nothing. It's silly. And the fact that you still fume about it is even sillier.

Anyway, not letting this thread get hijacked any further, so let's watch Nero shoot Hadoukens:

Ace combat story was never very realistic (you always end up fighting some sort of super weapon straight out of anime) but at the same time it avoided many of the more anime wish tropes (compared to say tales of ). The story have mostly focused on being empowerment fantasy for your main character. All of them feature your character pretty much single handily turning an entire war. 4 Was about you taking out a legendary squadron. 5 about saving both the "US" and "Russia" from a nazi conspiracy. 0 was about a journalist interviewing all the ace your character took out, each of which would lavish praise on you (in live action cutscene), here's a few to give you an idea. (Oh and 6 was shit)

Double down on that attitude, escapist as a new owner now and it sounds like anything political will be heavily frowned upon. I'd avoid any word staring with "G" too. XD

GAME!? We can't even say game now? Dude there are like 12 people left on this forum, how many more words and opinions are gonna be off-limits? Well kuys, how about all those cool kames coming out in the next few months. The beginning of the year was trash, but the ending might be pretty damn neat.

I don't understand your logic. That's like saying Oscar for best picture this year goes to Season 3 of Big bang theory. It's completely off the table as a valid choice. Not saying that Xenoblade COULDN'T end up being a favorite game of the year....but the topic took place before it came out. It simply wasn't a game choice that should have even been on the table.

HOWEVER I do think he did end up claiming it GOTY in January. When we had all the games on the table and nobody gave him shit about it in that thread because it had now become valid.

There just has to be reasonable options when talking about something dont you think? If you were in a topic about your favorite sports cars and I said my favorite sports car is a Giraffe, wouldn't you say that a long neck animal doesn't count as a sports car? I mean....right?
