I'm shocked and amazed that this many people didn't realize GameStop doesn't open every game you buy there, with the rare exception being a game you had them special order for you. They even opened up my copy of the last EQ2 CE I purchased and had to fish around behind the counter to find all the fiddly bits that went with it.

I'll take a $50 GS card that I can apply to anything over an On Live coupon any day, and the two for one used offer would come in hand for my 360 or my DS. I don't know anyone who is a computer gamer that doesn't have a console at least for some purpose.

But please, don't let me get in the way of your pointless Internet rage. Resume the wailing and gnashing of teeth!

Eh, things like selling opened packages is why I usually just buy from amazon and best buy.
And I usually avoid those little annoying things.

So I assume this gift card is only for the people who bought Deus Ex? The article doesn't exactly make that clear.

Because if ANYONE can just waltz in there and get one, then...

GameStop are still not taking full responsibility. By my count they have screwed over three entities.
First OnLive who paid for the coupons to be in the box.
Second Square Enix who had no legal responsibility to tell GameStop about the coupons.
Third the customer who they have stolen from and defrauded.
No wonder high street game retail is dying, why would you travel to a shop to deal with this crap when you can order the game online with no fuss and have it in a couple of days.

THE INSULTS THEY BURN...oh wait they dont because your just some random person on the internet. My master whim? I will admit I got a laugh out of that, what do I work as a assistant in the dominatrix section at gamestop, Ill have to look in the back room the next time i go their. If buying 3 games at gamestop in 17 years and never purchased a used game makes me a sheep then ill just baaaaaaaa away.
No, unquestioningly following your corporate shepherds no matter how many times you may be fleeced would make you a sheep. Though I'll try to avoid insulting you from here on out, as that's not so great for conversation. As for the dominatrix section at gamestop what will my 50 dollar giftcard get me there? Anything good?

I don't "trust" any store but they have things I need or want so I give them my money in exchange for the stuff, if I did not get that coupon then i would be angry but as soon as I herd the word 50$ gift card I would be happy because it would have worked out for me.
Sorry, I'm not as mercurial. Things like principals and ethics still bother me. It's troublesome. I treat people fairly and I expect to be treated fairly. You may say "you have been treated fairly" but I would disagree. I don't want money, I don't want 2 for 1 used games and I don't want a forced apology. I want something they can't give me anymore which is honesty. Why is that so hard to understand? You already told me you'd be happy with 50 dollars. Now you're just repeating yourself. We're repeating ourselves. Well good for you. We're two different people obviously.

I frankly don't care what one company does to another because they all have the same goal, one but i will point out that Google was a beta at one point and if yahoo had crushed them they would still be the biggest search engine instead of a joke.
Except we're not talking about what one company did to another, we're talking about what one company did to it's customers. There was a snafu between two corporations and one made the decision that the customer would be the fall guy. I don't care if it happens all the time. That does not excuse a thing.

As for Google it's interesting that you should point them out. Asides from the fact that Impulse Streaming is a projected year from beta (not in beta) it would help to compare business strategies for the two. Just how did Google rest that lead away from Yahoo? Did it gain it's notoriety thorough advertisements on Yahoo? No. It gained it's popularity by offering a superior product. A start-up took the established service head-on and crushed it. It competed it's way to the top. Such things are possible. There's nothing that says with gamestop's financial backing that they can't do the same. You might allege it would be easier for them to overtake that lead this way and you're probably right. (if it hadn't worked out against them at least by generating even more interest in onlive) But if the only way you can "compete" with somebody is by keeping customers from knowing they exist then you're doing something wrong in my book. Just what kind of mediocre service are they planning to launch?

In my opinion the best time to attack your competition is before it can even exist.

I had to.
