Thanks to all for the welcoming. Given the similarity of The Escapist to GT's most recent redesign by Defy Media, and a few GT members made or had accounts here already. I decided to join up and give this site a shot. Particularity since I wasn't feeling the IGN boards that much. The other reason being that there seem to be a significant mature community for discussing games and the lot. I am aware there are some who aren't the nicest when it comes to certain topics given deep personal views. But that can be found on any forum or in the world.
As for me, I go by the name Jak. A number of you may have already seen some of the threads I've made, or brought over from GT at the advice of some members. And I'm happy to say those threads have been very well received here. And have become positive additions to the Escapist community. I'm a young adult from good old USA, and I prefer forums for discussion over social media sites. I'm also a born again Christian, college graduate, and I'm currently a reserve cop. While being in the process to become a full time PO for my career.

Honestly I really like a lot of them and you want to know why? They talk about video games and movies and entertainment and don't yell at you for disagreeing with them, don't straw men you and are pretty friendly and stay far away from the gender politics threads.
There was a thread talking about Nintendo direct and was one the nicest threads I read in awhile. So I welcome the refugees.
For the past couple of years, those that remain after the 2011 redesign by Viacom that stripped a number of community features. Became part of a smaller, tight close community. Where there wasn't a whole lot of trolling (with a few exceptions) or flaming going on. I guess that comes with the territory of having a small community, as flamers and trolls look for attention. And that's best found on bigger sites. As for Nintendo direct. We had a number of GT users who were looking for a Nintendo friendly forum. So its no surprised for me that you enjoyed that thread.
Now years ago, GT was like many other forums. It could be pretty harsh for a new user, especially if something you posted rubbed the community the wrong way. And you didn't have a good explanation for it. And there were times the old community could be quite cruel. Which made some users label the old GT as being similar to 4chan at times prior to 2011.
