This thread is way too happy and welcoming. Needs a fair dose of curmudgeonry.

You damn GiTs (see what I did there hur hur)! Bringing your... whatever it is you do and think you can just prance around. We used to stack fucks like you 5 feet high during the GamerGate wars, use you for strawmen to ignore other people's viewpoints. Get the fuck out of here, you don't belong on this forum! You don't know what true hate is like. You didn't see the fake girl gamer threads or the Sarkeesian hurricane of 2012. You didn't have to live through the hell that was brony wars or the reigns of terror of EternalNothingness, Sun-Hwan or Zeel. You know what it feels like to see another thread about Sarkeesian every day for a whole year? Well it feels fucking awful, that's what it is.

Now that I'm done making lame ass references to Gran Torino, I welcome our new members. Just try to keep the console wars down, would ya? Some of us aren't quite as spry and need to be in bed at 10 (I'm allowed to talk like this due to my join date).
I had somehow forgotten EN existed, good gravy that was a time to be alive.
Someone even took the time and the effort to make an Eternal Nothingness gif... And what a glorious gif it was...

Got to the point eventually the mods had to start giving out warnings for posting it XD
Gotta love the old .gif, no idea if it's still worth an insta warning but I don't think so anymore.

I'd also like to point out to the fresh meat new arrivals that User Groups are often just as active as the forum itself while also often having smaller user bases.

Here are some user groups that I keep an eye on.
The Escapist's Official Tech Team: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Tech-Team
The Escapist's Official Moderation Chat: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Moderation-Team
The New Brovengers: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-New-Brovengers

If you want to find more user groups the site has a list of them here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/

P.S. User groups vary in quality, content and activity very heavily, you can also alter what sends you notifications in the group (e.g. group status updates, anyone posting in chat, being quoted in the group chat, etc)in case you join a large or active one and your PM inbox starts to overflow.

Oh I love the mod group, I frequently check in there because people frequently start drama on in there... Though there is a new community manager that it's trying to cut down the chatter in the group... which kinda sucks for me.

Figured I'd drop a line here as well.

Started over at GT in 2008, left there as an Admin and figured I'd give Escapist a try after seeing numerous people make the transition. Generally don't have too much time these days for message boards as work keeps me busy, but the community seems welcoming enough so that's good. Really surprised to see the overly positive response regarding GT and it's community in this thread as GT has historically not had the best reputation among other communities (and sometimes understandably so).

Anyhow.. Yo!
Yea we certainly had a significant amount of users who definitely pissed off some people, or rubbed them the wrong way. I remember the references to 4chan for how harassing a chunk of the community can be on and off site. And I still remember that girl on YouTube who got cyber-bullied big time by GT and 4chan, because she made fun of some dude with a GT account. Then there was the time we got into a heated cross forum discussion with NewGrounds. But that thread died pretty quick on NG and not much came out of it.

I guess since years have past since those times, people have moved on or forgotten about some or all of those instances. And rightfully so that's its not held against us. Since practically all of those users left GT a long time ago.

I was pretty upset, until I saw that this site looks almost exactly like GameTrailers. Mostly it seems to trade console wars for political wars, which to me seems like an even trade. I can work with this.
*Looks at your avatar*
Is that custom sprite-work?
I'm pretty sure Valkyries in the GBA games could only use staves, and light/anima magic. I never played sword of seals, but I don't think the systems in place supported characters who used both physical and magical weapons until Path of Radiance.
Nice work man.
It is great work, but it's not my work. I found it through Google images, looking for something related to the game. I thought it was pretty cool looking too.
