hey, i was just listening to some old retro game songs (mario theme, zelda theme, etc) and i realised that some games have amazing scores and i was just wondering if any of you guys have some particularly favourited songs of games

I know a lot of people on this site are really into their game soundtracks. Me, not so much, but I do appreciate them. The MGS2 theme is my favourite of all time, brings back so many memories. MGS4 had a terrible soundtrack though, imo. Mafia II also has the best music and 'radio stations' in any game I've ever played
Old-school Castlevania. The more recent stuff is good, but nothing has really stuck with me like the music from those first three. I couldn't tell you if that says something about the music itself or my penchant for starry-eyed nostalgia.
The nintendo classics (Mario, Zelda, Metroid) always have some good music, even in the 8-Bit era.
Nowadays I particularly like FF7's, 8's and 9's.
Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia have really good soundtracks too.
Oh and Baten Kaitos (check it out, it's awesome) has the same composer as the two tales games and so it has an awesome soundtrack.
On a non-rpg front, the last games' soundtrack that I really enjoyed was Bayonetta. They mostly play one main song, but man it drills into you and I can guarantee you will be humming it by the end of any play session. The angelic music in the game is pretty awesome too.

Pokemon Red/Blue's music is insanely nostalgic to me, as is Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, to be honest most Koji Kondo and Nintendo produced gaming music is just nigh on perfect to me. Recently though, I've been adoring retro styled soundtracks like Cave Story and VVVVVV alongside the big epic scores of Super Mario Galaxy 2.
I am a huge fan of the Blazblue ost, its incredible. Just listen to it:
Fast paced and a good use of guitar with other instruments, beautiful.
I can literally spend hours just listening to the various tracks collected in Brawl, all the awesome orchestrations of all those awesome tunes. Pokemon and Zelda especially have awesome music.
The Mass Effect 2 soundtrack is pretty awesome as well.
