Age - 18
Gender - Male
Religion - Christianity
Afterlife - Yes
Astral Projection - Sort of, since you wont carry your physical body around when you die. But only after death so if it happens you wont be coming back.
Gaming - I'd be suprised if theres anyone on the escapist who doesnt.
Time spent - 1/2 hours average, would do more if i actually had the time for it
Format - PC, xbox 360, PS2, Sega (oh yeah). (PC 95% of the time though)
Genre - Rpg, strategy, fps, mmorpg, adventure, puzzle, (anything not sport/racing related)
Link between gaming and religion - I would say there is a small link in that if you have a religion that requires no time then you'll have more time to game, i personally game about 50% less than i could do because i spend time with chirstian friends i wouldnt otherwise know and praying/reading the bible/going to church/serving at church/whatever.

I basically believe that this universe is intrinsically faulty and could never survive without an external, organizing influence.

Atheist, you cretins.

for the record:

1. Age: 23

2. Gender: Female

3. Religion: Unsure, raised in Protestant Christianity and currently examining all major world paths to spirituality. At the moment, probably closest to a deist.

4. Belief in afterlife: Ultimately, the inquiry into this question is pointless, as it a) cannot be proven, b) creates disharmony among beings (see: major world religions), and c) at best distracts us from what's really important in this life; at worst, teaches us to disregard it entirely.

5. Belief in astral projection: Personally unsure, but with a firm belief that if it were more than a speculative phenomenon that may have been misinterpreted by those who claim to have experienced it, it would be better documented under scientific conditions.

6. Do you game? Yes

7. How many hours a day do you game? 3-6

8. What format(s) do you play? Primarily PC, but all nintendo/sega/sony/microsoft consoles since 1985 available.

9. Which is your preferred genre? Tie between RPG and FPS.

10. Do you think there could be a link between hours gaming and choice of religion? Obvious potential negative correlation; restrictive religious sects would enforce shorter hours or a total absence of gaming. Additionally, the exercise of imaginative games, particularly RPGs (although other genres, especially well-written FPS/RTS scenarios are not immune to this), permits us to stretch our minds past what we "believe" in the real world, suspending disbelief for the game world. In this way, I think, it's possible for some minds to eventually permanently open, and gamers who had grown up in one exclusive faith might find themselves tending toward general theist or even agnostic beliefs. It's said that this is a common occurrence in adolescence, but then, adolescents are influenced by everything that happens to them during that era, so why not games?

I've just been asked (like 10 seconds ago) to create a survey for an assignment so I can collect and analyse data. Rather than get up and go outside, I'd rather just ask you guys! Can you please take this 10 question survey on gaming and religion. I would very much appreciate your contribution.

As I need at least 50 people to take it, I am actually going to be going around town as well so I'm not going to be able to thank you guys just yet! But thanks in advance for those who decide to participate.

1. Age: 18
2. Gender: Male
3. Religion: Non-religious (so atheist)
4. Belief in afterlife: No
5. Belief in astral projection: No
6. Do you game? What do you think?
7. How many hours a day do you game? About 1 hour at the moment, but this can highly increase whenever I've bought a new game.
8. What format(s) do you play? Wii (mainly Virtual Console), DS and indie PC games. I also play on a XBox 360 about once per week.
9. Which is your preferred genre? (Action/)Adventure, Platformer, Stealth.
10. Do you think there could be a link between hours gaming and choice of religion? Considering the fact that there is a huge percentage of American atheists on gaming forums while about 90% of the citizens of that country is religious I think it is very well possible that the kind of people who like gaming are more likely to be nontheist. But I doubt there is a causal relationship.
