A few months ago I got a pretty big surgery, so I've been sitting around the house a lot. I derided to pass the time I'd try to try out some new games. I pretty much fell back to CoD, Space Marine, and League of Legends.

We all know how CoD's community is. People screaming profanities like they're paid to do it, and my mom getting an unheard of amount of sex. After getting tired of that, I moved onto Space Marine. The lack of community there was shocking. In maybe two games I played over a few weeks there were people who actually had a mic on, and those who did had no interest in my mother.

Which brings us back to LoL. My lord, this game's community.. From the beginning the people there were unpleasant. If you die you're a noob, if they die you're a noob, if you kill an enemy you're a noob. I nearly quit because of how hard to take the people were, but I struggled on and can usually enjoy my self and just ignore my team if they begin to act like that.
So what have your experiences been with different gaming communities? The good? The bad? Let's hear it!

Shameless attempt to find people to play with: My LoL name is Cmichaels, add me if you wouldnt mind playing :p

The game communities I hang around are the hardcore pokemon and Fire Emblem ones. For Pokemon, I used hang around Smogon University a ton, reading the excellent articles that their members write on competative battling. I hadn't participated to much in the community aspect, but they seemed nice, but were very strict about rules and such. Although, this meant that the community was very professional.

For Fire Emblem, I lurk on the Serenes Forest Forums. These people are super hardcore about the games and as such, there are a ton of cool hacks being released and worked on now. Most are hacks of FE7 (Fire emblem 2003 GBA) and from what I've seen from this years FEE3 (a serenes community Rom Hack expo), there's a bunch of cool shit that's being made.

The only community I've spent any length of time in is the Forza community. Great place full of friendly people. They're always organising tournaments and competitions, and if you ever need help with anything all you have to do is ask. There's some pretty damned talented people in there too.

Oh i'm on EU West if you're interested. My name is the same as my Escapist name. We can get a game on and I can impress you with my awesome chain stun Leona skillz. XD

Though more than half this community is American so they'll be on the untouchable NA servers... :(

Excuse me for assuming you haven't hit 30 and therefore Ranked games yet. You think name calling is bad before you hit Ranked? Hoooo boy it only goes downhill from there... Way downhill.

I like the rare phenomenon that is people calling hacks when they die in LoL. Blaming your team is one thing and can be sometimes understandable but hacks? Just no. I can honestly say i've never once seen any hacking ever. Unless it's really subtle stuff like resetting cooldowns or something.

Even then it seems like the sort of thing Riot would bring down the instant Permaban Hammer on the moment they picked up on it.

This one guy was going to report our Twisted Fate for hitting him with his Gold Card when he was escaping through a bush...

How can you hit 30ish and not know that seeing people is TF's entire gimmick? A good Destiny/Gate is so much fun.

"Your fate has turned..."

Once saw a TF teleport into the path of a Caitlyn ultimate to take the surely fatal bullet for his ally. I love that man.

I've only really been heavily involved in the Bulletstorm community when it was out and the Dwarf Fortress community.

The Dwarf Fortress forums are one of the most fun places to hang around in.

MapleStory, ConquerOnline, Guild Wars. I've played SEVERAL MMOs, but those are the three I was most heavily invested in.

To be perfectly, honest, I didn't much like the community in ConquerOnline. Too many Brazilians and Egyptians that(this isn't a generalization toward those peoples, apologies if you take it that way) seem to enjoy going out of their way to make your time online as miserable as possible. I say so because it's always a "BR" or an "Eggie" that come by to have a try at ruining my day.

MapleStory's community is a mixed bag. I've had by far many more friends in MapleStory than any other game. Sigh, I really do miss playing that game before the Big Bang patch. I genuinely enjoyed playing that game. So many things to do, so many places to visit, so many quests and party quests to conquer. Many fond memories of this game.

Guild Wars, I didn't really socialize a whole lot, to be honest. I enjoyed being in areas with large amounts of people, but just like on the Escapist, I didn't do much interacting. I just didn't feel social there like I did in MapleStory.

All in all I see more ups than downs in communities.

It's stories like this that make me wonder why the hell online gaming is so bloody popular. Who in their right mind wants to put up with that kind of bullshit?

I don't really play anything for long enough to warrant any interest in communities. Certain games have a higher number of tossers than others but i can usually just kill them until they quit and shut up or out perform them.

Children talking about shagging my mum just makes me laugh.
Children calling me a ****** because they just raped me makes me laugh.
Stupid people make me laugh :)

They wouldn't say shit to my face in real life so theres no reason to get upset.

Well, in short, the gaming communities are a proof for the online gamers' inherent masochism.

Now that's an understatement if I've ever heard (read) one.

So true. Why can't we all be nice and say good game at the end. Thats what I do. Games are supposed to be fun and enjoyable. Its not so much fun when people are calling each dicks and teabagging each other.

I'm pretty new to online gaming but the ME3 multiplayer community is pretty good. Not hard to find a match, most people are quiet and they actually fucking cooperate. Sure, a few kill steals here and there but it's the thought that counts.

I have really only been involved in the ME3 multiplayer with a mic, and i haven't really had a single issue there, the only one was "OMG! A girl!" and "Wow, you're Australian?" but that's it, I've been treated with respect and most teams work cooperatively

I'm not one for game "communities". I commonly buy single player games, and only when I'm deathly bored do I play a multiplayer game.

I've had good experiences with the guild wars 2 community. But really I believe the best community is for starcraft 2. Yes there are bad apples but most people are nice helpful and not ass hats. Just don't go to the battle.net forums, Team liquid.net is the real center of the community.

The LoL community is horrible, stopped playing after the first hour.

The TF2 forums community are assholes, the ones that are in the servers are nice though.

The best community is the escapist community.

DotA 2 community is a million times worse than LoL's (yes, I have played LoL). In Dota, there are brazilians and russians that go on the US servers and tell the US players to go to a different server, and everytime that happens I want to IP trace them, fly to their house, and ****************************************************** censored because apparently it's "uncivil" to make joking threats.
