The only community I joined and where I was an active member was the one for Battle for Middle-Earth 2 and its expansion, also known as: The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth 2: The Rise of the Witch-King or Lotr:BFME 2:ROTWK. We all discussed different tactics and strategies for competitive multiplayer. How to play if you were on map X with faction Y against faction Z. Great fun :p. I think its online community is quite dead now.

Oh i'm on EU West if you're interested. My name is the same as my Escapist name. We can get a game on and I can impress you with my awesome chain stun Leona skillz. XD

Though more than half this community is American so they'll be on the untouchable NA servers... :(

Excuse me for assuming you haven't hit 30 and therefore Ranked games yet. You think name calling is bad before you hit Ranked? Hoooo boy it only goes downhill from there... Way downhill.

I like the rare phenomenon that is people calling hacks when they die in LoL. Blaming your team is one thing and can be sometimes understandable but hacks? Just no. I can honestly say i've never once seen any hacking ever. Unless it's really subtle stuff like resetting cooldowns or something.

Even then it seems like the sort of thing Riot would bring down the instant Permaban Hammer on the moment they picked up on it.

This one guy was going to report our Twisted Fate for hitting him with his Gold Card when he was escaping through a bush...

How can you hit 30ish and not know that seeing people is TF's entire gimmick? A good Destiny/Gate is so much fun.

"Your fate has turned..."

Once saw a TF teleport into the path of a Caitlyn ultimate to take the surely fatal bullet for his ally. I love that man.
I know what you mean about how LoL gets worse the higher in level you get. I and a couple of friends started playing pretty close to each other (one of the friends is now level 30, but the other two of us are right around level 20), and I've actually seen /us/ go from tolerant and friendly to friendly, but not tolerant of bad players. It just gets so frustrating when you go to play and you get matched with someone who absolutely sucks. The matchmaking system is supposed to place you with people on your skill level, but it's far from perfect.

OT: I've joined in several communities over the years. Most of them have been pretty friendly and welcoming. A lot of them have been for games so big that the game itself doesn't really have a community, and you have to join in with a single server if you want to find a sense of community. Some are more competitive than others, some are a great place to dick around, it's a pretty mixed bag, overall.

Which brings us back to LoL. My lord, this game's community.. From the beginning the people there were unpleasant. If you die you're a noob, if they die you're a noob, if you kill an enemy you're a noob. I nearly quit because of how hard to take the people were, but I struggled on and can usually enjoy my self and just ignore my team if they begin to act like that.
So what have your experiences been with different gaming communities? The good? The bad? Let's hear it!

Shameless attempt to find people to play with: My LoL name is Cmichaels, add me if you wouldnt mind playing :p
LoL's community really is terrible. My friend put it best when he said, "In LoL, there are no mistakes - only shit teammates." It's sad that the majority of the trashtalk comes from your own teammates. My advice for new players is to, if at all possible, only team up with people you know.
