Psychonauts.

I only played it because my fiance had a copy.

Drives me nuts, that game, but it's so much fun and brilliance!
Awwwww i was gonna say that :(
Was curious about it the moment i heard about it (3-4 years ago maybe) and then maybe 2 years ago i found a game site that offered it for download for free, so i was totally for it.
Played it, got to the final level but never beat the game...stupid escort mission in the meat circus >.> but gooood its a great game.

I guess when the game is about jumping into peoples subconcious, you get a glimpse at what the imagination really has to offer, and they show it in that game.

Tales of Symphonia. When I first saw the cel-shaded style it was a huge turn off, and as one of the only games I've played that has enough story and character development to really draw me in, I would have been missing out on what is now one of my favorite games.
ooooh damn, thank you for reminding me of that one too, definately one of my favourite games i've ever played. Walked into a rogers video store one day and saw it, rented it cause it looked nice, beat the game in 4 days cause i had to return it on the fifth...ALOT of my waking hours were spent playing this game and i dont regret it at all. I was also somewhere around 10-12 years old when i played it too, very nice x3

I almost missed out on Okami, didnt have a ps2 when it was released, but then I almost sold my wii. Then I saw that is was coming out for it, so I kept it a little while longer until I beat it, then sold my wii. Such a great game.

I learned about Persona 3 via the internet. Went out and bought it after a week of researching. Almost didn't get it because I was a dime short. Found a quarter on the floor of the GameCrazy I was at. Last copy too. :D

A friend also got me into Warcraft III. I thank him and damn him because of it since I'm now totally obsessed with Warcraft lore.

The God of War series. If I hadn't bought a PS3 and if the Collectors edition didn't come out I would never have played it. Same goes for the Prince of Persia triology, but I had Warrior Within to PS2. I didn't really understand the game back then though, so I didn't get very far.

Geometry Wars on the Nintendo DS. It was recommended in a Nintendo Magazine a few months ago now in a 'missed gems' feature, and is a mad space shooting game where you are trapped inside a geometric shape and have to shoot other geometric shapes to earn points. I saw it in GAME's pre-owned section for £4.99 and nearly didn't pick it up, but my mum saw me looking and put it away for my birthday. I'm so glad she did, I love the game. ♥

Maybe that's where my interest in the 2nd world war started O:

Psychonauts, X-Com: Enemy Unknown (aka X-Com UFO Defense or whatever), and Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes. Each one was great. I haven't played any of the other X-Com games, mostly because I heard they went down hill or are the same as the first, but I will some time. I also see KUF getting a lot of flak, personally I don't see any valid points though. The 3rd person brawler combat mixed with the strategy of troop movement and ability use is really fun. Psychonauts needs no explanation. :p

Deus Ex. I found it in a pile of CD's at my house. I thought, "what the hell, its free" and played it. It blew my mind.

HELL YEAH!!!

Such a good game, I only played the Xbox remake. When I got the game I was more interested on the multiplayer part of it but when I started the story it was SO good.

Also Timesplitters 2, I got that game when I got my Xbox and also Halo CE, Hitman 2 and Splinter Cell. I tried TS2 first but I got confused by the controls so I tried the other games, they were all good and only after a year I tried Timesplitters again. So many hours wasted in the Arcade mode lol.

Tales of Symphonia, read an article about it's then upcoming sequel and figured I'd buy it to prepare for Dawn of The New World. Absolutely adored it. Oddly enough I never got around to buying DoTNW nor do I plan to.

Also Persona 3 FES,I'd heard about it but the dating sim aspect and only having one dungeon turned me off it.Saw it for $15 new one day and figured Why not,One of the best purchases I've ever made.

I have a lot of games that could be listed under 'Gems Near Missed'.

I'm going to go with Ultima VII though.

I ran across it completely by accident on a PSP Homebrew forum.

It was a beautifully immersive experience.

I still laugh when I think about robbing a jewelery store via horse drawn cart and dynamite.

Fallout 3. I played it back in the day, didn't really like the pip-boy, slow action feel of it so I quit. Around a year later I tried it again and LOOOOVED IT! I played it through my whole christmas break and explored everything I could. Now, it´s my favorite game. :)

Mass Effect.. had written it off after DRM issues, and somehow it didn't interest me.
Now the series is one of my favourites!

I almost missed Dragon Age and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Dragon Age because for like a year and a half, it never sounded appealing. Then out of nowhere, I wanted to get it. Good decision.

Twilight Princess because I've never owned a wii but my friend left his(with LOZ:TP) at my house FOREVER. Seriously, it sat in my room for a month completely unused. Saw some good comments about the game, booted up the wii and was hooked.

(Almost didn't start to read Homestuck either but then after viewing a particularly funny image I was convinced. BEST. WEBCOMIC((Thing)). EVER.)

I had to edit that post way too much. Damn you early morning!
