Ok let me start by saying this. I,for the most part, don't like or play rpgs or jrpgs. I remember getting star wars knights of the old republic after hearing how good it was and having my friends talk about it all the time. I bought it shortly after its release and could barely wait to get home to play. This was my first rpg and did not know what to expect when i started. After about 5 or so hours i realized something, i had yet to have fun. The combat was painfully boring to me and the story, although interesting, was not enough to keep me playing. I figured it was the hype that ruined it for me. Later i tried mirrowind and again, found it far too boring to continue playing. FFIX and FFX same thing, just could not get into them. I just don't "get," rpgs. I would rather play a nice racing game, fps or platformer. I came to the concision rpgs are not my thing and stopped trying.

Then came Fallout 3, i spent about 70 hours my first play through and loved every minute of it, i figured for every rule(me and rpgs just dont mix) there is an exception. I bought fallout:NV and again, loved every minute of it. during a steam sale awhile back my friend bought me mass effect because it was so cheap and he owed me. I never got around to trying it until last week, and in that week i put 18 hours in mass effect then bought mass effect 2 at full price and sank 33 hours in no problem. I like rpgs now! what happened? this is a first, usually i get bored with the combat but damn, M.E. is one hell of a good game! Anyway, im now going back and playing st:kotor and dont find the combat so lame anymore. Anyone else discover they really like a genre or game they gave up on liking for some reason? We all know what kind of games, movies, music, pizza etc we like and dislike, but you can be surprised when those liking/dislikings change.

Liking a certain genre doesn't mean you have to like every game under it. You like what you like, don't feel ashamed of it.

Me? I used to play a lot of JRPGs around 5-7 years ago, now the vast majority of them just rub the wrong way (except Dragon Quest, that shit be awesome yo). Probably due to their shitty melodramatic plot and characters.

My gaming tastes really haven't changed, I guess I've gotten more in love with RPGs, seeing as how it's now my favorite genre of games but I didn't hate them before.

I have had several food stuffs that I've come to like that I previously hated, chief among them being olives, I used to hate them, now they're pretty good.

I'll admit that I didn't get Bioshock when I first picked it up. I kept it so that I could try it again later. About a year later I came to my senses and realised the beauty and genius that is an almost perfect game (damn, I wanna play Bioshock now)
That's my only gaming story but I have a music one: When I was in high school I loved punk rock. I listened to Rancid, Rise Against, The Clash, Minor Threat, AFI etc. and refused to admit that more popular and light-hearted bands could be good cos it wasn't 'punk rock' or 'cool'. After maturing a bit, I realised that Fall Out Boy are a fantastic band. Different, but awesome in their own right. I still have friends today who refuse to admit that pop-punk or pop-metal bands can be good bands. Vice versa, I have friends who love pop-rock and refused to listen to hardcore or metalcore because it's 'not music'. Why can't people open their minds? I managed to. /rant

I'm going to say something that might infuriate some people here, but while Bioware's stories are good, their gameplay are somewhat lacking in comparison. Anyways...

I almost gave up on RTS games because of how rage-inducing Starcraft and Age of Empires can be to new players who haven't touched a strategy game in their life. Luckily, trial and error as well as persistence does help.

I've grown pretty jaded against a large portion of JRPG's. I'm pretty sick of the whole "kiddy" appeal of it all, I guess I'm just too old for it nowdays. However, most of the WRPG's that have been coming out lately I've have really got into, mainly because they are dealing with a more mature subject matter, in most cases.

Not an identity crisis, just getting callous. *thumbs up for self*
